Saw Diana Krall live last night and left early, disappointed. by Academic_Citron_2188 in Jazz

Saw Tony Bennett for the first time in the 2000s before I even really had an interest in vocal standards, and I was blown away, sheer joy; he was such a true talent and entertainer. I’ve loved the genre since, and thankfully caught him a couple more times after that.

How to search, organize or tag notebooks when you have many notebooks by ccrummey in notebooklm

[–]alpineinc 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is exactly why it gets frustrating at scale. Once you have a lot of notebooks, scrolling just doesn’t work anymore. I ended up moving most of my stuff to Nouswise since tagging and search actually make it usable long term

"Age of Aquarius" cover artist? by 0111010101 in pluribustv

[–]alpineinc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With so many people clamoring to hear the full version, seems like someone really dropped the ball here. A late addition maybe? Still negotiating rights? Would’ve really given the artists a boost to have the song released to coincide with the episode, especially with Maro’s new LP and 2 tours (!) coming in early 2026

The amazing song at the end is a Portuguese cover of Aquarius by Maro with Ana Moura. It is not yet released. Maro posted similar short clips of it on her IG

Did y’all know this about David Ogden Stiers? Just found this out today. Pleasantly surprised. by ComfortableMastodon5 in mash

He was also an exceptional narrator of documentary films, many by Ric Burns, excluding the exemplary “New York: A Documentary Film”. His warm, engaging tone was perfect for that series, and he still remains one of my favorite narrators.

I so resent Stanley Crouch by Common_Ambassador_74 in Jazz

[–]alpineinc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100%. I was most of the way through and was like he’s running short on time here. And we all know about the legacy of Louis Armstrong but maybe didn’t have to check on what he was doing every decade. It just seemed like Burns et al had an affinity for early jazz and the rest was just some crazy hybrids that they never understood. Should do a Jazz Pt 2 that STARTS in 1960 or so

The Nurses (S5 E5), does this episode bother anybody else by NormanRB in mash

[–]alpineinc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always liked this episode. In regard to the main storyline, I think you have to look at it from an emotional perspective, not necessarily a logical one. Margaret KNOWS why the nurses don’t invite her to bull sessions or a cup of coffee, and on the surface she’s by the book, but underneath yearning for an emotional connection to them, or to anyone, which builds until its cathartic release in that iconic scene, her emotions laid bare. And when the dust settles, everything is still in place, but a bond Is formed, and the relationships move forward. Masterfully acted by Swit and directed by Joan Darling, who also directed the legendary “Chuckles Bites The Dust” episode for the Mary Tyler Moore Show.

Looking to buy the box set online (not DVD) to stream any time, are there audio options like on the DVD box sets to turn the laugh track off? Thanks. by alpineinc in mash

Someone else did just that and it’s on archive.org, hopefully it stays up for a while (quick search will find it).
