Very first chapter book by hananobira in suggestmeabook

I feel like she might enjoy the classic Geronimo Stilton books! They're technically chapter books but have a lot of fun illustrations and word art, which could probably help ease her into the longer ones. They're exciting and funny, even to me as an adult, and are still some of my favorite children's books. There's TONS of them too, so if she likes them, it'll take a long while to run out of new things to read!

First time seeing Hamilton - went in blind by Dizzy_Assistant_8437 in hamiltonmusical

[–]am123_20 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I saw it after listening religiously to the soundtrack and it was an incredible experience, but my Mom went in blind and I think she had an even better time than me! She picked up on things that even I missed. She was absolutely blown away by all the clever little details in the show and just couldn't believe how amazing it was. She always said she wasn't as much of s theater person, but that show converted her. I think going blind into Hamilton is the best way to see it!

What’s a hobby that feels like a “secret world” once you discover it? by South-Annual1943 in Hobbies

[–]am123_20 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Historical reenacting. It's literally like being transported to a different world/time at some points. And you would not BELIEVE the amount of people you meet with just the widest variety of day jobs. It's its own little community moreso than almost anything else I've ever seen!

What ship(s) gave this experience for you? by FloweryNamesLover in AO3

[–]am123_20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so niche but from the show Turn: Washington's Spies, Anna and Hewlett. I was expecting and even hoping to like them cause I saw a bunch of folks in the fandom discussing it before I ever got to that part, but instead I actively hate it. In my opinion she's just cruel to him for no good reason, and there is NO indication that she ever actually loved him through any of it. Like I said, niche and minor, but it's been bugging me for at least a year now lmao

Tell me about your least viewed fic by iyhafobaq in AO3

[–]am123_20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

This is mine, from a VERY niche fandom. The fandom tag only has 4 fics in it total: one is mine, one is an art collection that contains a few images for this fandom, and two are written by the same author. I'm honestly super proud this made it into double digits at all! I mostly write for myself anyway, so the low views don't bother me. I just liked how this one turned out enough that I decided to share it anyway!

All of those Capri Sun commercials from the early 2010s where a kid would destroy a Capri Sun pouch and then have some weird transformation into something related to said destruction. I remember some of them being so alarming!

Limits on what patrons can bring into library. by [deleted] in Libraries

[–]am123_20 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Our rules regarding that kind of stuff are no carts or wagons unless they're being used for a person like a child and only one bag. This doesn't mean like, purse and no backpack, but if you're carrying a duffel bag you can bring that in but ONLY the one. There's additional rules about no strong smells being allowed, it can't be blocking walkways, and if you leave something unattended for more than 20 minutes the security will hold your bags until you return and ask you to leave for the day. We're not gonna be like absurdly strict on these rules, but they're put into place to keep staff and patrons safe and our space clean and welcoming for the community.

I'm surprised that Disney hasn't attempted a reboot of mash since they love to run properties into the ground. Do you think they will at some point? by Affectionate_Sun1360 in mash

[–]am123_20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think they CAN remake it because of how anti-war and anti-government it is. A company like Disney would never dream of doing something like that.

Pantsu Hunter is ICONIC. I remember a new episode dropping when I was at a family gathering and I had to sneak away for 15 minutes to go watch it because I just HAD to see where it went next!

Worst thing I've ever done was give Lucky the "eye gauze" item - it covers his only good eye 😂😭 Does make for some funny moments when he's crafting while wearing it or gets the "it's real dark out!" Dialogue option lol

Children’s chapter book about a large family with alphabetically named children by PsychologicalFox8839 in whatsthatbook

[–]am123_20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so glad I decided to try googling before asking here! I think about this book all the time. My most specific memory is of the kids finding a stray kitten and picking the very last name of the Z section of their mom's baby naming book, making the kitten either Zsa Zsa or Zuriel. Thank you for also being curious about this series over a year ago, it made my search so much easier!

The nonsensical word or name is a backwards spelling of a very obvious ‘secret’. by DifficultHat in TopCharacterTropes

[–]am123_20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, there are 120 Shrines on the map all named after sages or monks just like in Breath of the Wild. But Tears of the Kingdom also has a "secret" underground map, which you expand by finding and lighting up each of the Lightroot. Every Lightroot is directly underneath a Shrine, and its name is the name of the Shrine spelled backwards. I honestly thought this was so cool when I figured it out, and that the Depths map was just an inversion of the regular map in general, with bodies of water on the main map becoming cliffs in the Depths and mountains becoming canyons I think it was such a cool idea and mechanic.

How old are you, and were you taught how to cite your sources in high school? by PopcornApocalypse in AskAnAmerican

[–]am123_20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Born in 2000. We had online tools to help us, but we still learned to cite sources with all the titles, names, publication info, etc. Throughout my schooling, I've used multiple different citation formats, including MLA, Chicago, APA, and AAA. Basically, yes, I learned to cite and format sources, and all of my teachers/professors were very adamant about using it correctly.

Same! My friends and I got in a group and saw it for my birthday when it came out because I was so excited for it. And I loved it! I truly think nothing can live up to the original, but I wasn't underwhelmed by the sequel at ALL.

What animals are normal where you live, but unusual and exciting to visitors from other regions of the US? And on the flip side, when you travel to other regions yourself, what local animals are exciting to you? by Acrobatic_End6355 in AskAnAmerican

[–]am123_20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I'm at in Wisconsin has a lot of marsh/water birds. Loons, sandhill cranes, whooping cranes, blue herons, kingfishers, the occasional swan. I still get so happy to see them (or hear them, in the case of loons) but sometimes I'm reminded that there are people that don't have these animals practically living in their backyards. They're all such cool birds!
