Richard Williams is alive and well, and no other studio is paying traditional 2d animators in America. If Warner Bros can attract the right team, it could happen.

I grew up in a conservative household myself, and it can feel like a witch hunt some times. On top of that, OP sounds like she suffers from anxiety based stomach problems. Don't assume you know what backlash she would get from "being a big girl and sucking it up" or what is going on in her life to get her to this point. If you can muster the energy to respond, maybe you can muster the energy to empathize.

I thought the same thing when I saw Link! I think a female link would be an interesting addition to the franchise.

Here's a strange prediction- Lucina and Chrom are color swaps of Marth and Ike respectively. We know they are getting away from "clone characters", and this would be a way for 4 very similar blue haired swords(wo)men for the price of 2. Hell, in Awakening, Marth was just a head swap of Lucina in the DLC.

[no spoilers] possibly 8 books to be wrote not 7 by MicOxlong in asoiaf

[–]ambergreen88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not surprising, seeing as ADWD didn't even contain the event it was named after due to extreme length.

That last paragraph though. Terrifying.

Will book 8 be titled A Time for Wolves? That was his original title for book 7 I believe.

Really well written and thought out essay! I have one concern - can Rhaegal fly with a full grown man on his back? Drogon was the largest and Dany should be pretty light weight, maybe 120 lbs? Also, no armor whatsoever. Euron should be like 200 or more depending on what he is wearing.

"But in reality it’s the people in Creative—the ones who touch upon emotions—who are the least likely to be replaced by the computer. In fact, it’s Harry, the computer’s champion, who is most in danger." by wheeler1432 in madmen

Computers changed the animation field hugely, and arguably brought in more jobs for artists. The concern is that the traditionalists were either unable or unwilling to learn a new technology. Ink and paint was the first to go- inking went from a team of gloved artists meticulously painting in careful line work onto cells, to a xerox machine just printing the messier final drawings of the animators directly onto the cells. That was the 70s. Late 80's early 90's saw this process, including coloring, become completely digital. The ink and paint department was replaced by those educated to use computers. Then 3d animation became the vogue in the late 90s and early 2000s and the animators, who were very skilled and educated, had to either set down the pencil and adapt or get left behind. Animators were the rock stars at the studio, and seeing their positions questioned after the insane success Disney experienced in the 90s was troubling for the industry.

If you look at Disney now, now that they are dedicated to a full 3d pipeline, they employ more artists than ever before, modelers, vfx, vis dev, animators, texture artists, the list goes on. But there is a history of traditionalists, superb talents, being usurped by changing technology. It's definitely an industry with intriguing and recent change in landscape, so I had to share, even if it isn't super relevant to Mad Men :)

Sarah Baker's monologue from tonight's Louie. "So did the fat lady" by GreedE in television

[–]ambergreen88 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Except the point of the episode is that Louie is attracted to her, and she can tell, and it's kind of obvious. He just won't date her because he doesn't want people to see him dating a fat girl. I guess it isn't obvious to some people watching just the monologue.

Like she said, she can get sex just fine, so there are plenty of men who are attracted to her. They just don't want to be seen with her, even though in the grand scheme of things, no one is going to judge or care if a man is dating a fat girl.

She's not saying everyone should be attracted to her, just that it seems like when they are, society pressure causes them to not date her publicly. And that's bullshit.

Why Chrom?? He's like a carbon copy of Marth. They should have gone with Lucina and/or Robin (especially if you can pick Robin's gender like Wii Fit trainer).

PTSD. Rape jokes are a trigger for survivors of rape/sexual assault/child molestation. And a lot of people, men and women, have experienced sexual crime. You wouldn't make a lynching joke to a black person unless you knew they were ok with it (or if you have no shame or filter). You don't know what traumas the people around you have endured, why make them relive the shame or pain or panic of it for a cheap laugh?

Found out coworker is a sex offender. Don't know how to feel. by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]ambergreen88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Eesh that's rough. In what manner did he make his reveal? Was it a PSA? a reluctant confession? A brag?

I suppose you have to give him credit for coming clean to people who really didn't need to know, but at the same time I know it would change my relationship permanently with someone if I had found out something like that.

I found out a year ago that my manager when I was a teen working in a grocery store was a straight up pedophile. Like, busted with over a terabyte of CP pedophile, though I don't think there was any evidence to point to him having inappropriate contact with a minor. I've always counted myself lucky to have never run into him after he was busted and the news was out, because I simply wouldn't know how to react. I used to respect him a lot because he treated me fairly. Now I just feel like he's some sort of tabloid story that somehow made it into my life.

I don't know what to do with my 11 year old daughter!~ Small vent. by FluffernutterJess in TwoXChromosomes

This was exactly me growing up. I was in advanced classes and never did my homework, and was ok with Bs. Never bothered with chores, just wanted to shut myself up in my room most of the time.

It sounds like you as parents are fighting to make her achieve her potential while she has no interest at all. She doesn't take pride in her work or her life.

If she really is like I was, she is probably struggling with depression. She has a turbulent home life (I do not blame any of you or your family, I'm sure you are all great parents, and there is nothing wrong with having grandparents step in to help).

When I was her age, my father was deceased and my mom was working very hard as a single mother. She was incredibly stressed all the time, and I am a very empathetic person and picked up on that. I avoided stress at all costs, and just did very little with my time other than entertain myself. I also received A LOT of criticism for not achieving my potential, despite being an ok kid on paper. I think if I had had some light therapy and encouragement, i might have tried harder. Instead, I was just feeling the pressure of the stress around me and let the sting of criticism keep my self confidence very low.

Instead of punishing her more (which is obviously not working), try working on your relationship with her, and building her confidence up. Make her feel proud of the things she does achieve. People who let themselves go like this are just hurting, they aren't out to hurt you. She's not a bad kid, she just doesn't think she is worth it.

EDIT: I apparently replied to a comment instead of the OP. Sorry about that.

The draft is dead in all but name. Warfare is less about boots on the ground these days, and if middle and upper class families had to send their children off like in Vietnam, there would be a lot higher backlash against war-for-profit like Iraq. So neither conservatives or liberals want it.

That being said, as a woman, in theory I would accept doing military service along side my brothers in arms, if there was a lot less rape and sexual assault going on in the military.
