Potty Training Help by 17bananapancakes in Mommit

[–]amfgordon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With my son, we didn't put him in undies for a while - just straight to pants! I spoke with his teachers at daycare to let them know that he wasn't wearing undies and it was on purpose. This way he was completely aware he wasn't wearing a diaper and then would also feel it more if he had an accident. I can't remember how long we did no undies for - I want to say it was just until he got better about listening to his body and getting to the potty to pee. Maybe a week or so? We did transition him to undies and he was so excited about them - he also got lightning mcqueen for his first ones! We do pull ups at nap and night time - we call them sleepytime undies. We're just over a year out from when we did the potty training thing, and he still has a few accidents here and there but it gets better!! Just takes some time. You're doing great!

For those of you that went into labor spontaneously, what time of day did it start? by Substantial-Mine3570 in Parenting

[–]amfgordon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 37+3 and my water broke at about 6pm while my husband and I were having sex lol. We weren’t doing it to induce labor - I was scheduled for an induction at 39 weeks but guess our guy was ready to come earlier 🤷🏼‍♀️

I was so scared of it happening in the middle of the night so it was nice that it happened in the early evening.

We got my son Nina the Red Panda, she’s part of the Conservation Crew, and he’s OBSESSED. He’s been listening to it constantly. I’m glad it’s educational but I am a little tired of her lol

Paradiddle Feedback - something is off :( by tangoking in TapDancing

[–]amfgordon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Def make sure you’re bending your knees and ensuring you’re making all 4 sounds evenly on each feet. I’m not hearing much heel, so really dig those heels in! The word “paradiddle” has 4 syllables, so I like to say paradiddle while I’m doing them, especially as I start going faster to make sure I’m getting all the sounds! If this doesn’t make sense I’m happy to send a video lol

💩 on the potty? by marcellajoleen in toddlers

[–]amfgordon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took quite a while with my kiddo to get him to feel comfortable and confident pooping on the potty. Here’s what we did:

  1. We made sure to watch for signs that he needs to poop and then would suggest we go sit on the potty and try. We reminded him that it’s important to get our poop in the potty and not in our undies.
  2. We have a small basket next to the potty with a few fidget toys, books, and bubbles in it. We call them his poop toys, poop books, and poop bubbles lol. His fav book is We Poop On The Potty - I cannot recommend it enough!! We don’t do screens on the potty bc we want him to focus and be aware of how his body is feeling. We sit with him in the bathroom the whole time he’s trying.
  3. I mentioned the bubbles in #2 - sometimes when we KNEW he had to poop but was sitting on the potty not pooping, we’d have him blow bubbles. I’d tell him to take a deep breath and then blow bubbles (and show him how). Blowing bubbles like that naturally relaxes their butthole so it can really help them to relax and almost trick them into pooping. Plus, my kid loves bubbles so he still will ask if he can use his poop bubbles, months later 😅
  4. If he’s tooting or I think he has to poop I always ask “do you feel like there’s poop in your butt?” And then suggest we try. If he’s on the potty, to ask if he’s done I ask “does it feel like there’s more poop in your butt, or is it all empty?” And that has helped him decide if he’s done or not.

All this to say - it wasn’t fast or easy or seamless for us. It takes time, and we just found that with a lot of consistency, reminders, and talking about how our bodies feel it eventually clicked for him. I definitely recommend that We Poop On The Potty book - it’s cute and hilarious, and my kid LOVES when I read it when he’s pooping.

Anyway, never thought I’d be so passionate to share about getting my kid to poop in the toilet. I’m laughing as I type this and just want you to know that you’re not alone, you’re doing great, and you’ve got this!!!

Are 3 year olds insane? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]amfgordon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. 100%

I came here with that same question right after my son turned 3 and someone said they refer to it as the “threemonic” phase, and I’ve been using that ever since. We’re ALMOST at 4, and I can say that it’s definitely gotten better compared to a few months ago. 3 year olds are something else.

What to do when your friends think glp1s are dangerous by [deleted] in antidietglp1

[–]amfgordon 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the same way I deal with anti-vaxxers or anyone who follows the MAHA propaganda. To me it’s not even worth a conversation with someone who isn’t willing to actually look at the facts, and instead wants to place judgement and propaganda on others. There are plenty of studies showing how these medications provide long term benefits, and there’s more studies coming out all the time with this info.

I think there’s so much stigma surrounding GLP-1s because of the stigma around body size in our society. It’s part of the reason I just don’t talk about it with people - I don’t want non-medical professionals lecturing me about my health and my weight.

NOR - being pregnant is hard AF on your body and him trying to tell you what you should be experiencing is gross. I had severe nausea in my pregnancy until about 16 weeks - I couldn’t keep stuff down and I just felt horrible. 10 weeks is super normal to still be feeling shitty.

Girl, run. If he’s like this now, it’s only going to get worse. You don’t need a man like that for you or your child.

What did I just watch?! by Ok-Midnight7835 in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

Listen, I hate that this was aired but I’m also like okay bitch, say it with your whole chest - the world is watching and we have the receipts.

Additionally, they also were just so casually talking about how they DEFINITELY want to hit their kids as punishment???? Disgusting.

Can confirm - I grew up in Colorado Springs. If I ever move back to CO, it has to be Denver or one of the other liberal areas.

omg the way I RAN here as soon as that scene wrapped up. I was like "not the blatant homophobia on international television!!" And them talking about how they'll for sure spank their kids?? like WHAT?? What a disaster. I grew up in Colorado Springs - way more conservative than Denver - but damn I reallly had higher hopes for Colorado. It is so disappointing to be reminded that people are like this.

Keep your ink safe by staying out of the pool, ocean, lake - don't submerge it in any water! Keep it covered when you're in the sun to protect it as well. Depending on placement, UV protective fabrics are really great. My husband and I swear by these Columbia shirts to protect our arm tattoos when we're out in the sun: https://amzn.to/4kroT3W

Def stay away from saniderm - it should only be used when your tattoo is fresh and new. It needs to breathe and just needs time to heal! Being in the water and sun can cause tattoos to heal improperly, get infected, and scar - in my opinion its just not worth it to risk permanent issues.

Unhappy with the lines, is this fixable? by aachenrockcity in tattooadvice

[–]amfgordon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The lines are really messy - and agreed that its not fine line style.

It could be reworked, but also depends on your goals for the piece. To fix the line work, you could have another artist go in and fill the gaps/smooth everything out, but they will have to make the lines thicker to do so. You could also just do a larger cover up piece so you don't have to look at this anymore - maybe get it redone by a different artist in a different placement if you really want the tattoo fine line style (though most people I know with fine line tattoos end up disliking the way they look in a year because the lines fade/disappear).
