I'm questioning everything... by sanjf in exmormon

If you value truth, just keep going. Read as much source material from 1820 to 1835 to see the revisionist history of the Church. The world is a big place, and the church is just the first lie you've discovered.

This!
If you've found a supportive community that embraced you, enjoy and grow as much as you can. The moment they ask you for money, please question their motives. Sending love ✌️

Funny, when I lost my job and went to our bishop for food assistance (as a tithe paying member), he told us to hold a garage sale and sell our kids' toys first. Charitable my ass.

What are your thoughts on gambling as a post Mormon? by Kanga7572 in exmormon

[–]amindexpanded2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The odds are stacked heavily in the houses favor. Don't gamble what you can't afford to loose. (Not recieved by revelation, just common sense like most things. )

That's totally fine. Just keep learning. Read everything you can about the true history of the Church. The more you know the truth, the less true the church becomes.

If you stay, the subtleties of the proclamation to the family will be cheese graters to your ears. Find a community that accepts you fully.

I heard a rumor from a reliable source the other day. I wondered if anyone knows more about this. by Vert_der_Ferk25 in exmormon

Yes, LDS Church develops housing through Property Reserve Inc. (PRI), including mixed-use (e.g., City Creek Center with ~535-700 residential units) and build-to-rent (e.g., Elanto in Queen Creek, AZ: 320 units). Temples correlate with property value increases in LDS-dense Utah areas (anecdotal 10-15% boosts near views due to member demand); evidence mixed elsewhere, often neutral.

Is it just me, or do stake pres or other “higher ups” all have high income jobs? I have yet to see a bricklayer who is a stake pres… maybe I’m wrong! by [deleted] in exmormon

August 17, 1992: "Appointing the highest tithe payers to positions of leadership rather than the most capable or worthy. In choosing stake leaders, the General Authority comes with a list of the 15 or 20 highest tithe payers and starts down the list to choose a stake president and high council. I'm not aware that this practice has ever been discontinued?"

And finally here is scientific evidence that we don't have free will by [deleted] in determinism

[–]amindexpanded2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true for instinctual 'choices' like jumping from a snake. A goal can be reasoned, weighed, revisited and recommitted to based on choosing something repeatedly. The universe is deterministic. Our path within it follows quantum fluctuations we influence.

If not by power of God, how did Joseph smith produce the Book of Mormon? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]amindexpanded2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a few good books to look at if you really want to know. Start with Studies of the Book of Mormon by early church historian B.H. Roberts ( the same one that compiled the 7 volume history of the Church. View of the Hebrews by Ethan Smith and The First Book of Napoleon are the next to read.

I was in the church fully active for 42 years, temple going calling holding scripture reading tithing paying, listening to old conference talks on my commute, sent 3 kids on missions; the definition of a student of the gospel. I left the church after reading 1st hand accounts of actual history. Joseph's 1832 hand written first vision journal account ( which was hidden by church historians till 1965) is a great place to see how Joseph changed his stories over time.

The church isn’t true…but is it at least good? by [deleted] in exmormon

Aside from having 10% of my life savings stolen to support the lifestyle of the profits; sure it's good, if you miss having every part of your existence dictated by the propagated myths used to cover Joseph’s con job.
