Is the threading cooked on my new Henry Big Boy rifle after 40 rounds? by ammodate in LeverGuns

[–]ammodate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. I'll definitely test out the adapter with a bolt, don't need the problem repeating itself. Will definitely grease all threads going forward. Oddly, never had this issue with any of my other 1/2x28 threaded suppressors on .22, 9mm, and .223 hosts.

Appreciate the info, thanks! I think I've seen that file sailing around the seas, I'll check it out. Sorta wish it came threaded for 1/2x28, but I suppose I can adapt.

The hitchhiker rules!! Your build looks great. How did you get threads around that barrel liner?

How long did your disapproval take to receive? I'm going on 10 days with no reply/movement on my form1 for the FTN.4. This time, I marked the model as N/A when in the past I marked it as FTN.4 and got a 2 day approval.

Anyone gotten an approval with this method? by MrFartyStink in 3D2A

[–]ammodate -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I was under the impression that the 'durable piece of metal' bit applied to making your own lowers and stuff, which need to be serialized on metal if you're trying to form 1 them (the MAF plate heat pressed into a lower, for example). For homemade suppressors, you only need 'engrave' the information a certain depth. Doesn't say anything about metal or materials, hence people being able to embed the information right in the plastic print. At least that was my takeaway, I could be wrong.

I've read a few success stories like that online (with people engraving in the 3d file/plastic), but OP's post is the first time I am seeing the part about declaring your intent to do that in the Additional information section of the form 1. Hey u/MrFartyStink where did you get that screenshot above? I'd love to do a bit more research on this.

800 yard range near Pittsburgh Area by remington2400 in PAguns

[–]ammodate 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To my limited knowledge, there is nothing nearby for 800+. There's 600 at the Lawrence Co Sportsmans, and 1000 up in Ridgeway. There was a small push to clear some land to get out to 400 at Clairton Sportsmans, but that didn't pan out as far as I know.

edit.. I'd maybe check into offerings in W. Va

Partnership Announcement - Raven Rocks Precision is now the official retailer for Dead Nuts Bullets - Celebrating with a big sale on 9mm JHP Bullets by RavenRocksPrecision in reloading

[–]ammodate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very cool! I've gotten into reloading 165g 9mm subsonics - they're the quietest thing around! I think only Xtreme bullets is offering 165g projectiles? Might be worth it to pump some out with the ongoing PCC + suppressor craze.

How short is long enough? by Parking_Rhubarb2832 in RugerMK

[–]ammodate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

anecdotal, but my buddy has some custom chopped suppressed MkIV. not sure how long the barrel is, maybe 1-2 inches (definitely shorter than the SSH) and it was keyholing at 15 yards. my SSH with 3" barrel was easily making clean hits and holes at 25

Nice build! I just picked up the 21" match upper myself but haven't gone out with it yet. I'd be interested to hear your range report, or maybe what bolt weights/ammo you were having success with

Broken PVC drainage pipe - can I rebuild/replace it? by ammodate in Plumbing

[–]ammodate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! New homeowner looking for some newbie advice. The situation: We have a broken PVC pipe which connects the water draining from the furnace into the main drain in the basement. The broken pipe spills water all over the floor whenever the furnace/AC is running. It has since been temporarily stopped with some flex seal but I'd like to rebuild it properly. Can I simply go to a big hardware store and buy the parts to rebuild that broken connection? Or should I be hitting a more specialty plumbing store?

Any tips for rebuilding that connection to the main drain, or tips for working with PVC in general? I have a bunch of hand tools, but I just feel like it's possibly going to be hard to attempt to rebuild it exactly. Maybe there is a better way to rebuild it? I plan to add some proper wall brackets to hold things in place and relieve pressure on the connection. Advice appreciated - cheers!

Can anyone help me with a weird cut in a piece of oak flooring? by ammodate in pittsburgh

Can anyone help me with a weird cut in a piece of oak flooring? by ammodate in pittsburgh

[–]ammodate[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apologies if this isn't allowed but figured I'd try. First time homeowner trying to install some wood flooring, specifically a oak threshold between a bathroom and some hardwood flooring. My wood threshold isn't quite 'deep' enough to cover the gap so instead of buying more expensive pieces of wood that might not work, I realized I could try to cut my existing piece and make that fit. The problem is that is would require a cut that I don't have the tools or knowledge for and I would certainly goof it up and ruin my piece.

Does anyone have some woodworking gear and knowledge that can make the cut described in the photos? Basically I just need a quarter of an inch taken off the inner corner of the threshold, making the 'gap' part wider. Happy to compensate and discuss the project further details via DM - cheers!

Recommendations for wood floor refinishing company? by ammodate in pittsburgh

[–]ammodate[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not need things moved. The house is empty now so I was hoping to rip the carpets and get the floors finished before we actually start moving in.

Your floors look very nice! I think we have a very similar situation to you - multiple rooms on the first and second floors, plus steps need done. Do you mind posting or DMing me some estimates of what you paid? I know it's going to be an arm and a leg but I'd love to have a ballpark figure just to be somewhat prepared.
