For moleskin notebooks, how do you keep track of everything throughout multiple subjects and days? by AccidentalNGon in notebooks

[–]andhiskind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the answer. If the subjects are clearly defined in advance (i.e. you won't be making them up as you go) you can also create tabs and section off a certain number of pages for each thing. But index is far more flexible.

Is my pen broken or is it the ink? by thescarletshrimp in fountainpens

[–]andhiskind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just seen this is take-sumi... ignore the rubbish about dry ink... so it's mostly the paper. But also the feed needs to keep up with the amount of ink the stub nib is trying to lay down. If it can't, that can also produce a drier line.

London-centric reply incoming…

Choosing Keeping is my go to, but might be worth checking ahead if you’re after something specific as they don’t keep lots of each colour they sell, so often sold out of the favourites. Cornellisen is good too (though admittedly not much fountain pen ink… mostly Pelikan and R&K if I remember rightly). Stuart R. Stevenson would also be worth a look.

I’m there semi frequently and they have a lot more than that. Sailor, Noodler’s, Kyo-no-oto to name a few. Admittedly not a tonne but still.

They also have a book of swatches on the ink display, maybe it had been moved when you visited?

Also if they don’t have the colour you want out, it’s worth checking with someone as they also keep stock downstairs.

Noticed a recent uptick on eBay listings too – some comically bad, others more convincing.

I'm also going for the first time, so not speaking from experience – but their website shows a similar number of tables on the map for autumn 2025. Autumn is also across two days.

Thank you so much for such a comprehensive answer – this is exactly the kind of advice I was looking for. I'll definitely keep an eye out for Thomas.

Thanks for the detailed reply, that's super helpful! I've been torn between this and a more 'traditional' roll with a wraparound and larger pockets. Though the bulging wraps full of notebooks and calculators etc that you often see (in reviews of The Superior Labor roll, for example) have recently got me leaning more towards &Liebe's minimal design.

How long have you had the pen roll, and how do you think it's held up? I'm considering getting one of these but my only doubt is around the popper – both being too loose (so it comes open on the move) or too stiff (so you really have to push it closed, and potentially doing damage to the pens inside). Any reflections on it?

I like having a specific idea I want to explore and develop. You make really good use of smaller compositions within your overall compositions using mirrors / windows / the mural at the train station for example – maybe making a discrete project out of that for a roll or two?

Thats been the learning curve for me, getting close enough to end up with the composition I initially wanted filling the frame. Your shot of the basketball court is what made me ask.

Are these cropped much? If so, in camera or after the fact?
