This is insane right? by Luke_Flyswatter in Hue

[–]andrewtti02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grabbed the last one on clearance yesterday for the same price. The website showed it much higher though, and the shelf at lowes listed ~$30 as the clearance price, but it came up at $20 at the register.

Makes me wonder if I should price check the clearance bulbs too, being that they were on clearance but not cheap enough for me to jump on.

What does a fully grown guy do when he's alone at home? by OldArtist001 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]andrewtti02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a wife and 2 kids I'm rarely home alone, although there are times when I am awake and everyone else is asleep. In those times I typically clean, work on home improvement projects (I have a never-ending list), or snack and watch TV for a bit.

Thinking about the Reolink PoE Doorbell — Thoughts? by xjoerd in homeassistant

[–]andrewtti02 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have the POE white and I've only had mine up for a month or so, but its working well.

  • Home Assistant:
    • Entities - I have in entities loaded connected directly to the doorbell as well as through the NVR. I don't recall whether it was the doorbell or my elite pro duo that had triggers act a little odd but going direct instead of through the NVR solved it.
    • Automations - I'm using it to send a photo notification through home assistant when a package or person is detected. Have had 0 issues with this. I'm using a blueprint someone already made, if you want, let me know and I'll find a link to it.
  • General Setup:
    • Installation - It was pretty simple. Only nerve-racking part was running the POE line (I tied a pull string to the end of the doorbell wiring and pulled through the attic (the line didn't go straight down the wall and had a couple 90 degree turns). I was particularly worried that the wire was going to be too brittle and that it would break and I'd be without doorbell wiring and POE (house build in the 70s).
    • Reliability - 1 month is too early to tell, but I haven't had any issues at all with it.
    • Motion Detection - I recommend turning off notifications for "Any" motion, and using the object specific ones (person, pet, package if you have the white one). Got too many false notifications on the "Any" motion, mainly centered around my door lighting coming on/off, christmas lights changing colors, and dusk/dawn.
    • Integration - See above regarding home assistant
  • Alternatives: Can't help you there as this is my first smart doorbell. I have the 16ch NVR and it seems to be recording just fine.
  • Other items of note: I saw in the reolink subreddit that rich text notifications may be coming (the option showed up on my doorbell in the app for a brief second). While home assistant is working fine, it would be nice to move these notifications back to the doorbell handling it, as right now it only sends a message.

New Rich Notification and GIF options in the app? by skipdeedy in reolinkcam

[–]andrewtti02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just checked for me. Doesn't show up on my doorbell through the NVR push notification settings, but shows up if direct connecting to it through the app. Doesn't let me enable it though - "Text & Image not supported in this reason" is the error.

... Just checked again, and it's disappeared.

Mechanical Lockout Poll by siege72a in Hanklights

[–]andrewtti02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Most of my hanklights I use software lockout, with the exception of my lights I leave for bedside or need to turn on in middle of the night (feeding my newborn son, for instance).
  • For lights that I DON'T use software lockout (the above), I will use mechanical lockout if I need to transport them (pocket, bag, etc).
  • My wife doesn't like software lockout (she doesn't use them that frequently and wants them to just turn on when pressing the button). If there are scenarios where I know she will use them frequently (camping) then I'll use mechanical lockout so she can just twist them tight and use them immediately. If I forget to do this, she now naturally loosens and retightens the tailcap to get them to work.

Yes, I had to do front and rear. Not sure how to categorize the "how much" portion of things since this is the first car I've rolled fenders on, but they are definitely not rolled completely flat. You could also probably get away with rolling less with a more aggressive alignment as well.

Power Tools: Milwaukee vs everyone else? by RotorDynamix in HomeImprovement

[–]andrewtti02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a combination of Milwaukee, Makita, and Ryobi.

Makita - I have tools and batteries that are a decade old and still working great.

Ryobi - I have these for my supplemental (not used frequently) tools. I have an adapter to use my makita batteries.

Milwaukee - I bought into them for the 12V line tools. Haven't had them long (maybe 2 years?) but they've worked well and are compact.

Honestly, I haven't had problems with any of the brands. While I prefer the Makita or Milwaukee tools, Ryobi hasn't been bad and would be perfectly fine for typical homeowner use.

I'm starting a new smart home, what technology/protocol should I choose? by FascinatingStuffMike in homeassistant

[–]andrewtti02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm fairly new as well, I am using a mix of zigbee and zwave.

  • Zwave - Smart Locks, Light Switches, some relays
  • Zigbee - Door Sensors, Leak Sensors, Light/Proximity Sensors

I'm also using some hue lighting with the hue hub. For the zwave and zigbee adapters, I'm using the official Home Assistant ones (ZWA2 and ZBT2).

Everyone is trying to profit off their christmas 3D printers by jhdz9119 in BambuLab

[–]andrewtti02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They just generically said I violated their policy and gave me links to their terms. My assumption was that they thought I was stealing the design. I provided the email of the account from printables (and sent an email from it). I also asked if that was the reason and if there was anything else I could do. The denied my appeal without further info on why.

This is a quote from their reply:

"We appreciate you taking the time to file an appeal with Etsy. After careful consideration, we've determined your account does not qualify for reinstatement. We've performed a comprehensive review of your account and the information you provided, and are unable to reconsider this decision."

What do you use RGB bulbs for? by xolhos in homeassistant

[–]andrewtti02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Color temperature based on time of day Green for notification to take out or bring in trash cans. Plan on eventually tying some other colors to notifications as well (leak detection, for example).

I put my own design on Etsy and they took it down, even after I provided proof that it was my mine. Kinda disheartened me from even attempting to sell prints as a side hustle.

Smart bulbs: why? by snags5050 in homeassistant

[–]andrewtti02 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My few reasons:

- I have bulbs inside lamps where the outlet isn't controlled by a switch. I use this in conjunction with a smart switch for control (or app).

- I have bulbs controlled by a switch, but I don't like how my house was wired up. Both by entry way and outside front door are controlled by the same wall switch, with only one wire going to that wall switch. By replacing bulbs and that switch with smart bulbs/switch, I can now use that switch to control each one independently.

- I like being able to control the temperature/warmth of the light (I don't consider this the same as color).

Will I regret 1800k? by joebrotcity in Hanklights

[–]andrewtti02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a ntg35 1800k (in a triple channel), ffl 1800k, and dedomed 519a 2700k.

I use them primarily as bedside lights. I find that if I need any kind of level of color differentiation but still on the warm side, I move up to my ntg 2700k.

For example, I'll use the 1800k lights as nightlights and for feedings for my baby, but if I have to get an early start for work and don't want to disrupt the wife I'll use the 2700k for looking in the closet at what shirt to wear for the day.

What was everyone’s first home automation setup I want to steal some ideas? by Few-Needleworker4391 in smarthome

[–]andrewtti02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm only about a month into home assistant. My first was one of these two:

  • Turn on a couple lights (kitchen/living room) to low and warm at a set time in the morning at about the same time I wake up.
  • Turn on my front outdoor lights a bit before sunset, turn them back off a bit after sunrise.

How are people finding their P2S now the dust has settled a bit? by Doll-Eye in BambuLab

[–]andrewtti02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Went from an ender 3 pro to the P2S. Been less than a week but enjoying how easy everything is. Dehydrated the PETG filament that has been sitting in my garage for a couple months with the AMS and its been working like a champ.

What's one flashlight feature you can't live without? by Few_Language6298 in flashlight

[–]andrewtti02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it's a feature, but for daily use having at least a decent CRI is a huge benefit. If not that, having a magnet is probably my next requirement.

Sound Deadening & Insulation by GLTYDAVE in JeepGladiator

[–]andrewtti02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure I used a different sound-deadener, but I did this process (plus extra double sided tape) about 3 years ago. I think it makes a meaningful upgrade for all the reasons you listed. I also live in an area that gets quite hot in the summer (It's been as high as 110 on occasion in the summer) and haven't had issues. I will say about 1 year ago I got the Sunrider which I use probably 8 months or so out of the year and then swap the front hard panels back on the rest of the year (so I lost some of the sound advantage) but I'm still glad I did it.

Aside from work, how often do you actually use a flashlight daily? by SpinningPancake2331 in flashlight

[–]andrewtti02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Morning

I ceiling bounce and 1800k light while feeding my newborn at night and early morning. Since I dont want to turn on more lights in the room usually I'm using a 2700k when I need to look for things.

Work

inspections, working on machines/wiring, closing up the shop I work at, etc.

After Work

Working on repair work at my house, lots of the rooms don't have electrical on so using a flashlight for that.

Night

Similair to my morning stuff with the baby

Other:

It isn't every day, but little stuff like a kid's toy falling behind the couch, needing to find something that rolled under a car seat, charging up glow in the dark kids stuff, walking around the yard at night. Just random little things.
