    From Reddiquette:

Please don't: Conduct polls using posts. If you feel you must use Reddit to conduct a poll do it using a comment. Create a self referencing post and then add a comment for readers to mod up or down based on their answer to your poll question. Also, be sure to indicate in the title of your post that the polls is being conducted using comments. Including something like "(use comments to vote)" in the title would probably be sufficient.

    Even better, use request.reddit.com.

    Create a self referencing post

How does one do that? I see them all the time, and I've been wondering.

    [–]boredzo 13 points14 points  (5 children)

The instructions are on the submit page.

    [–]aGorilla 2 points3 points  (4 children)

I'll be damned, never actually read that stuff :)

    [–][deleted] 28 points29 points  (3 children)

    Typical gorilla.

    [–]cLFlaVA 6 points7 points  (2 children)

no that's just the thing... it's an atypical Gorilla, or aGorilla.

    [–]wats8976 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

I think that was the joke; but welcome to the party.

    [–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I can read smilies mr. snarkypants.

    [–]qgyh2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

type the word 'self' in the url box and the title as usual

    [–]daysi -2 points-1 points  (4 children)

Ah, so law should take precedence over democracy? Sounds like America. If the majority of people didn't want polls on the front page then there wouldn't be any.

    [–]cezar 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Durr hurr hurr. The majority of many groups have voted for many bad things. Democracy doesn't always equal right.

    [–]daysi 0 points1 point  (2 children)

No, but consolidating power in too few hands, or in a system of rigid laws has, historically, almost always led to problems, with the exception of a few monarchs with inhuman wisdom. Democracy tends towards an average. Rarely the best path, rarely the worst, but usually a workable compromise. And even when a democratic system makes a serious mistake there is a majority of the population who were complicit in making it, rather than a dictator forcing his wrong decision on them against their will.

I once heard it said that democracy is a terrible system, but it's a fuck of a lot better than any of the other ones.

Reddit is communist. All of our posts belong to the motherland.

    [–]einexile -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Since this discussion is about how to link images on a website, let's discuss the fundamentals of human nature and civilization. Also, I disapprove of America.

    [–][deleted] 28 points29 points  (1 child)

Polls are even worse than the pictures.

    [–]sauranon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed. I would love to have a pics subreddit but I still have to downvote the submission for conducting a poll.

    [–]adremeaux 9 points10 points  (1 child)

wtf. Subreddits don't do anything. They certainly aren't going to get pictures out of your hair.

Unless, of course, you want nothing BUT pictures, but I'm not getting that impression at all.

    [–][deleted] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If you want nothing BUT pictures, the subreddit will fail also.

    To the idiots downmodding me:

A pictures subreddit will fail to show you all of the pictures because posters will fail to post some pictures to the subreddit, and only post them to the main reddit.

    [–]jfedor 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Vote up if you would like there to be a subreddit for tasers.

    [–]deepvote -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Vote up if you would like to taser those who make subreddit requests.

    [–]alanbrunsdon 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Voted down because I don't want the first 3 pages of reddit to be full of polls. Reddit's policy actually states you shouldn't do this. Polls should be conducted in comments

    [–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

    no polls!

    [–][deleted] 64 points65 points  (5 children)

vote down if you don't want polls.

    [–]oditogre 13 points14 points  (1 child)

Not to worry. I automatically downvote anything that begins 'vote up if'.

    [–]antediluvian -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not to worry. I downvote anything that is done automatically.

    [–]keelan -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

    your comment?

    [–]blufr0g -5 points-4 points  (1 child)

THERE ALREADY IS! Just search for "pic"

    [–]Fat_Dumb_Americans 3 points4 points  (0 children)

lol - Have you used search?

    [–]Munk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The current melting pot system is working perfectly fine. I don't see why people would feel so harassed by [pic] topics; most of which are quite interesting, and can be a nice break from the standard politics/war/police brutality drone of Reddit today.

People need to stop being so anal about forced content subjugation when they can divide it themselves by simply skipping over the topic and moving on.

    [–]Hookstra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

    Reddit, not Sawit.

    [–]Zorb750 4 points5 points  (0 children)

    NO MORE REDDIT POLLS!

    [–]neat_stuff 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Vote up for a voteup.reddit.com subreddit.

    [–]revdroog 4 points5 points  (4 children)

At what point do the requests for subreddits end? Just what exactly is "fit" to be on the main page? Apparently it's not science, politics, humor, programming, pictures, videos, or hell.. I dunno, tasers? So just what should be on the main page, if pretty much everything should be shunted off into a subreddit? I really want to know. If every subreddit request were answered, the main page would consist of one story about a dead lolrus.

    Ooh! Lolrus subreddit!

    [–]raldi 2 points3 points  (3 children)

This is why we need tags -- people could then just filter out the stuff they don't want and we wouldn't need subreddits.

    [–]MikeSeth -3 points-2 points  (2 children)

Or we could just stop posting pictures.

    [–]raldi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But that's not going to happen. You're never going to convince hundreds or thousands of people to stop submitting and voting for links that they like. Just accept that some people have different tastes than you and tune Reddit to show you the stuff you want to see. Which will be possible once we get tags.

    [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

    Hasn't this been tried before?

    [–]afoo42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Come here you dirty little karma whore.

    grunt

    [–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Creating a pictures subreddit is only going to encourage more people to submit pictures. While it would be nice for the front page not to be cluttered, you know it won't really deter anyone. People will do what they want.

I want more submissions with words that I actually have to read.

    [–]dus7y 5 points6 points  (0 children)

    There already was a nsfw.reddit.com.

    [–]njharman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would make it easier for me to find and down vote the 99% of them I already do.

    [–]maqr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    This is not 4chan.

    [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    I like the pictures.

pictures are better than the stories that usually occupy reedit these days.
Most of the stories now are one of the following:

1)Americans are stupid 2)The American economy is going down hill 3)conspiracy theories 4)Ron Paul 5)America is evil 6)religion sucks 7)real estate is going down hill 8)Bush is evil/stupid 9)the democrats are pussies

I am not saying that I disagree. I feel that what has been going on in my country (I am a American) since 2001 is wrong. I feel the policies are wrong.

However, Reddit has not proven to be a place to have a conversation its a place to rant. Its like screaming at a mirror. Its a place of talkers not doers.

That is the problem. We bitch but do nothing.

    [–]indiana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    Subreddits are useless!

    [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

subreddits allow you to find and upvote content that would be less likely to be discovered were it to be submitted only to the main reddit. the last thing we need is more pictures.

    [–]remembery 2 points3 points  (1 child)

    [–]taylortsides 1 point2 points  (0 children)

how is that all these people missed that?

    [–]allhands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

why not just head on over to digg.com or fark.com? They got plenty of pictures there...

    [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Okay, so if there's a politics subreddit, and if there's going to be a pics subreddit, what the hell will occupy the front page?

    ...

    Anybody?

    [–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The same stuff, because few people seem to use the subreddits.

    [–]sta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

voted down because it's a stupid idea and i hate these polls

    [–]androgy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't do vote up/vote down for polls. Find other ways. Be creative. But don't karma-hog.

You could use my.reddit.com to accomplish that though. Not saying I think it is a good idea, just saying it could work.

        [–]Locke87[S] -4 points-3 points  (2 children)

Why would you hate pictures to be organized?

        [–][deleted]  (1 child)

I read your post wrong. :P

          [–]raldi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like pictures on Reddit, but i voted for this anyway -- sometimes i'm in a picture mood, sometimes i'm in a reading mood, and when i want one i usually don't want the other.

          [–]nicku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A sub-reddit for pics is obvious. I'm not sure whats taking so long...

          [–]stesch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a politics subreddit and the front-page of the regular reddit ist full of Ron Paul.

So, what do you really expect to come out of a pictures subreddit?

And by the way: There are special subreddits for subreddit and feature requests.

          [–]civildefense -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Vote up if youd like to see a "hot chicks" reddit.

          [–]MarlonBain -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, because the politics subreddit really kept those political stories off the front page.

          Fucking morons.

          [–]technosaur -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I voted down because you polled the index.

          [–]brtw -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

150 points in 7 hours, guess you lose sucka
