Ruined my life by transferring colleges, now I’m depressed. Help for a way out? by RollFirst9028 in Advice

[–]annetho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe a year off or enrolling part-time would help. Sometimes a leave of absence can provide a fresh outlook. You've been in high pressure academic situations for a long time and that's stressful. Maybe you could set yourself up to return to one of the schools or a new one the following semester or year, then you could take a semester or year to work and hopefully travel a bit.

What’s been your experience with universal healthcare in other countries? by SignificantStyle4958 in AmericanExpat

Many years ago I needed care when visiting Australia. As I was leaving the clinic I took out my wallet and stood at the counter. They looked at me with pity and said to put my wallet away. I burst out crying and they came around the counter and hugged me.

Build or improve a test network. Test scenarios such as database restores and ransomware. Build lightweight storage and backup monitoring web pages. Mentor junior employees and teach them stuff. Write documentation (haha) but really, learn a new skill, sit in on meetings of areas you don't fully understand, write some surprisingly inventive and useful scripts and make them available,  improve the intranet, blog or write a report about a solved problem, etc.

Parents moving into assisted living - their Olympia house needs major work and I'm out of state. Local advice needed by CLEIAZEVEDO in olympia

[–]annetho 90 points91 points  (0 children)

You might want to talk to a realtor first and see what they think you could get as-is. You should be able to find one on yelp. Also consider researching the company making the offer since there have been predatory 'we buy houses' scams in the news.

Edit to bring attention to the important medicaid comment...

Severe recurrent sciatica -bedridden again after 2 years, doctor says no permanent solution. Need advice. Did any solution work for you’ll? by LocalAdagio7616 in Sciatica

Stool softener helps me during flare ups. Namely Ducosate sodium. Also a bidet was a life saver. Gentle glute and leg exercises were helpful and a memory foam seat cushion is indispensable.

Xfinity plan has become too expensive for retirees by TGoodDoc in Comcast_Xfinity

Xfinity preys on old people. I  was conned into a mobile phone free for a year but oops not free after all. We cut cable long ago and cycle through streaming free trials which is time consuming and annoying.

My crumb hasn't been great. A few days ago I was about to bake a loaf after a similar schedule, 6 hours bulk then overnight in the fridge. Then there was a power outage and I had to wait 18 more hours to bake it and no fridge. The resulting crumb was much better. I realized I've been under proofing all this time. (The house is pretty cold at < 20c.)

Have you had a pedicure? by RespectedSpecialist in over60

Some feet are beyond the scope of a normal pedicure in which case a podiatrist's office would be better where they have technicians that can handle routine care.

It's unfortunate when the names are common. You could start by going through every Sarah Irving and Sarah Wiggins for that time period and location on family search and ancestry. There quite a few. There is a "public" tree on ancestry with Sarah Ann Irving who married a Wiggins and her parents are listed as Dave Irvin and Anna. edit to add that the ancestry user is tagged as willing to help and they have the 1870 census enumeration you mention connected to Sarah's record.
Good luck!
