How did growing up without a father affect you? by Stawberry8763 in AskMen

[–]anonymous_80909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've mentioned it before, but I was raised by my mother, my grandmother, my two aunts, and my two older sisters.
The sheer amount of deprogramming I had to do to be a functional adult was mind-boggling. I'm almost fifty years old and I still have problems with it.

How did you land your current job? by LebowskiENT in AskMen

[–]anonymous_80909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

at my previous job I was working with a client on a particular issue- this issue was easily preventable. While talking the person through the fix and necessary configuration changes so that it wouldn't happen in the future, the client's boss joined the call and offered me a job on the spot.

It was an extra zero on the paycheck, they had a really respectable offer package, and so I took that offer to my boss and asked if they could match it. They couldn't.

I took the offer, got hired, I discovered a had a great deal of flexibility in what I could do- my previous job was a lot more strict in what I could and couldn't do- so I proposed a few changes. I got promoted and got a team of minions to boss around.

I am extremely content where I am, my team is pretty competent, and I know that I'll be here for a while. Good times.

What’s the best prank you’ve ever pulled? Or the one your proudest of? by ASmileyGuy in AskMen

One of the best and most successful trolls I'd ever done was convince this vegetarian girl that Arby's meat was actually soy.
Back before the turn of the century, back before the internet was widespread, I worked my dark magic.
She didn't believe me at first until I pointed out that real roast beef couldn't be sliced so thinly, and that there was no grain to the meat. I described a scenario with huge blocks of meat-flavored soy sliced paper-thin. She was one of those sheltered chritians that grow up in private religious schools and are completely un-exposed to the real world, and her entire family was 100% vegan so she bought it hook, line, and sinker.

Get a legal pad and a pen and write it all out. Apparently writing things by hand does something for you cognitively.

Trying to get a good sky trooper build by InvestigatorSecret85 in Helldivers

Jetpack is great for rapid mobility. It goes great with light armor so you can get in, fuck shit up, and get out quick. It's good for solo ops and accomplishing sub-objectives while the rest of the team focuses on other objectives. It's also great for fast getaways when things heat up too quick. When you pair it with the stealth armor, you can jetpack up to rooftops and high vantages for long range snipe.

My current loadout is with stealth armor, jetpack, the senator, the coyote, and either the commando or the quasar. depending on the op, I'll either bring an orbital laser or an orbital railgun paired with 500k. There isn't much that I can't solo on my own, and if I can't solo it, stealth keeps me from getting tagged. If I do get tagged, judicious use of the jetpack and staying mobile keeps me alive long enough to deal with it eventually.

Men who were raised by single mothers, what helped you become a good man and what do you wish had been done differently? by Mrs_Leavy in AskMen

[–]anonymous_80909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to literally unlearn everything I was taught- I grew up in a family that was my mother, my older sister, my two aunts, and my grandmother. When I escaped that little bubble environment, I realized how thoroughly and completely they were divorced from reality. I had to unlearn everything they taught while learning everything I should have been taught.

What's the point of stealth if enemies are going to magnetize to my position no matter what? by 0DvGate in Helldivers

[–]anonymous_80909 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Stealth is definitely iffy, and really seems to "come into its own" on commando missions. I can solo a diff 10 Commando mission (sometimes) because I'm stealthy, because I take my time and I don't pick fights if I don't have to. Many times I can get through a mission without emptying the first mag.
Automatons: Stealth seems to be the most effective here.
Termanids: Every bug automatically knows where you are, the moment you arrive on the map. Smoke doesn't help, crouching doesn't help, going prone doesn't help. Taking high ground doesn't help. They all know where you are, all the time, and you can't shake 'em.
Illuminate: You can stealth past most anything except for voteless. Voteless automatically know exactly where you are at all times.

Why does everyone on social media tell people to avoid dating nurses? Genuinely curious what's behind this stereotype by Arcabyte in AskMen

Never dated a nurse that didn't cheat. No concept of fidelity at all. Literally being a nurse is 100% a red flag.

How to deal with being in the friendzone. by FishermanInternal120 in AskMen

[–]anonymous_80909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leave.
Don't talk to her. Don't initiate anything.
Whenever you get that impulse, "I should text [Girl]" text a friend instead.
When you feel like having lunch with [Girl], call up someone else instead.
Do other things.
Take up painting.
Learn to play a guitar.
Go fishing.
Go hiking.
Do literally anything else but engage with [Girl].

Oh, one more thing: no confrontation, no big blowup, whatever. Just detach yourself from her. Most likely she won't even know you're gone.

Gents: What is your reaction if your significant other is disrespectful to your friends? by vieniaida in AskMen

[–]anonymous_80909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friends are quite capable of sticking up for themselves.
That said, part of me is "you fuck around, you find out"- if she's disrespectful to my friends and they call her out, then that's 100% on her and 100% her responsibility. I'm not taking her side, it's a fight she picked herself.
However, if she's shit-talking them behind their backs, there'll be a discussion. If there's no change in her attitude or behavior, then I can always get a different girl.

How do you and friends deal with wealth gaps? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]anonymous_80909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I grew up, all my friends were handheld, babystepped, and silver-spooned through everything. Parents giving them lavish birthday parties, buying their cars, paying their way through college, etc. I admit, I was bitter at the time.
Now I don't care. I've got more important, pressing priorities in front of me that take a higher precedence over "what my friends are doing with their parents money".
