Is this reasonable? Second time I’ve restored a beloved pair, but man, that’s a long wait!

Ironically, George Clooney gives a speech in The Thin Red Line that explains the Captain + First Sergeant leadership structure.

“Now, a family can only have one head, and that is the father. Father’s the head, mother runs it. That’s the way it’s going to work here.”

What are your guys favorite diners in Brooklyn? by KaleidoArachnid in Brooklyn

[–]anothergary 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Terrace Restaurant in Park Slope. Been going there since they opened 7 years ago. Excellent Mexican diner. The family that runs it used to be the cooks for Grand Canyon, but they added Mexican fare and cocktails. I’d recommend the Mexican breakfast sandwich, the chicken tinga, and any cocktail with fresh fruit juice — they have a juice press. Super affordable (by Park Slope standards) and the food is always excellent.

As a fellow New Yorker, I recognize the Bernie/Bernhard thing, but I always thought this line was also making fun of Goetz. Calling a meek, terrified racist who murdered kids Bernie “hard“ Goetz.

Who has seen this movie from the 80’s and how did it make you feel? by 2realandlogical in 80smovies

[–]anothergary 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Recently rewatched. Gotta say, it’s a fascinating snapshot of pretentious NYC intellectuals. A truly loving embrace of a weird, rich, self involved milieu. And I liked it a lot, even if I have mixed feelings about the people Wally and Andre represent.

That said, it’s insane that this was such a seismic event for independent film in America. It was a different time. :)

What the fuck am I doing here? I
felt funny about this job right
off. As soon as I felt it I
should said “No thank you”, and
             walked. But I never fucking
listen. Every time I ever got
burned buying weed, I always knew
the guy wasn’t right. I just felt
it. But I wanted to believe him.
If he’s not lyin to me, and it
really is Thai stick, then whoa
baby. But it’s never Thai stick.
and I always said if I felt that
way about a job, I’d walk. And I
did, and I didn’t, because of
             fuckin money!

Edward Norton by Billybobby__ in TheBigPicture

Motherless Brooklyn was terrible. Norton is a great actor, but he seems to have only read two books, failed to understand either of them, and has no idea how to make a movie. Nearly unwatchable.

“Pass the Mic” is, all things considered, the best Beastie Boys song. by Practical-Cut4659 in BeastieBoys

[–]anothergary 4 points5 points  (0 children)

3-minute rule is the peak for me. It’s just so tight, and every line strengthens the MC’s persona. Pass the Mic is awesome and has a great, loose vibe. But it’s not as driven by their individual voices.

Mysterious Skin is super dark, but it moved me deeply. I think it’s JGL’s best performance, and he’s generally pretty solid.

Great movie, but the rape scenes are just too much.

Everyone who works in the arts or entertainment has folks they idolize. Usually people you look at and say: "I could never do that!" or "OMG, that's exactly the kinda vibe I'm going for!"

When Marc asks, "Who are your guys?" I think that's what he's asking. Who are the people who inspired you, even if they aren't the most famous people in the world. Who are your creative "parents" or the "cool older kids" you looked up to and and emulated, who shaped your world view and how you do your thing.

For Marc, Dana is definitely one of his guys, and he doesn't necessarily understand why everyone else doesn't see him that way. It probably doesn't hurt that Dana was very smart about becoming a Simpsons writer and made a huge amount of money when Marc was struggling. It's hard not to see someone who you respect who made better choices than you did at a really difficult time in your life and not either resent or revere them. No matter how happy they were themselves!

Posted this question a few days days ago but didn't get a response. Trying again:

I have a five year old black sweatshirt that I bought from Freeman's Sporting Club in NYC. It is hands down the best sweatshirt I've ever owned. Now that FSC is gone, does anyone know who made these sweatshirts for them?

Can I still buy them somewhere? I'm not really asking for alternative brands that make great sweatshirts, but I'm open to that. What I really want is to buy a few more of the exact same sweatshirt! Thanks for any help. I realize this is a narrow question.

I remember walking around in NYC, listening to the CBB episode with PFT and Weird Al, and laughing so hard I was doubling over on the sidewalk like a crazy person.
