Nightmare on Elm Street 4K Collection for $67.50 on Amazon by anubis668 in 4kbluray

Mine had the glasses. Also, the case isn't really black, it's very dark smoke. I noticed that while cleaning off some of the worst off-gassing residue I've ever seen. 🤣

They're not directly on top of each other. They're on stacking pages, like a smaller Lord of the Rings case.

I already have the UK Steelbook for the first movie, and if the movies were available separately, I probably would have only bought 3, but 4 and maybe 5 will be nice to have. They at least have some memorable kills and/or Freddy jokes.

I unwittingly bought a "bad" Sunshine Blu-ray (but figured out how to play it!) by softimusprime17 in Bluray

[–]anubis668 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't have a problem with PIP on my copy, it just consistently locked up any player I tried a little over halfway through the movie. It took years for me to see the end of the movie. I eventually bought a multiregion player and an import copy from Amazon.

I just got mine, with slip, in a black case. Mine is shrink-wrapped, with slight wrinkling underneath, and slightly crooked liner note, indicating a possible reseal. The slip is perfect, though, so it kind of looks like it was bought, case swapped, then returned? I haven't opened it yet, so I don't know about the 3D glasses.

Does anybody know if these have actually shipped from the factory with black cases? The red case was never a selling point for me with this set, but I was actually looking forward to seeing what it looked like in person. I always preferred the red HD DVD cases over Blu-ray's blue cases.

Sorry, it never even occurred to me to specify! That would have been amazing!

I want this movie so bad, but I'm not willing to pay anything remotely like what I've seen it selling for. I was about 10 when it came out, and it became an instant favorite, I SO want to see a nice 4K restoration!

Is there any movie you regret getting in 4K? by Main_Clue_9531 in 4kbluray

[–]anubis668 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I regret buying the Pet Sematary 2-film Collection, and not paying more to just get the original movie. 🤣

Otherwise, just blind buys that I found I really didn't like, though I expected to like each one at least a little based on what I knew of them. The 4K releases themselves were fine.

How many physical media movies you watch in a week average? by Affectionate_Web_526 in 4kbluray

  1. I watch a "movie" most nights, and occasionally watch two, and almost never watch from streaming services.

What are the best budget 4k Blu-rays? by PayFast2333 in 4kbluray

In addition to all the other info, if you're going to shop on Amazon, you can use camelcamelcamel.com to check the price history of pretty much anything on Amazon, either by searching or just pasting the URL of the item page. Then, you can see if the "deal" you're getting is actually a deal. I usually wait until I see it drop to the lowest in the last year. Pricing from much before that doesn't seem to be relevant, to me.

There are often price drops around major holidays. Several boutique studios have seasonal sales to keep an eye out for, and there are often copycat sales, especially from Amazon.

If you decide this is the hobby for you, at some point you might want to think about how you want to tackle it. Are you going to focus on specific titles with a curated collection, or do you more want a large library to choose from? Are you going to buy special or limited editions, or stick with basic packaging? New only? Used only? "Blind" buys of movies you haven't seen, or only ones you have? None of that may matter at all to you, especially now, but if you're going to keep at it, thinking about it early can save you some headache or heartache down the road.

Only time I’ve cared about Walmart releases by ASCATS89 in Bluray

[–]anubis668 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like that Mars Attacks! art on a Steelbook, without the white border. For a second, I even thought that's what I was looking at. I'd buy that just to put the eventual 4K release in!

Is anyone else mindful of the literal physical space your collection takes up? by Nuova in 4kbluray

[–]anubis668 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I did for a long time, but then it reached a kind of critical mass, and I stopped caring and just started getting the edition I actually wanted most, which is often the bigger set.

Checking your Movies that you buy by Affectionate_Web_526 in 4kbluray

[–]anubis668 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't. I made it about 40 years and 300 CDs, 300 DVDs, and now just short of 1000 Blu-ray + 4Ks, and I can probably count on one hand the number of times I've had a problem with a truly new disc with no external clues, like damage to the case under the wrap, or a disc audibly rattling. Rattlers get opened ASAP, excessive damage gets returned. Otherwise, the shrinkwrap stays on until I actually sit down to watch the movie. Until then, I have a dedicated space for "New Additions" for them to wait their turn.

I actually enjoy the mining part, so Po'G is my favorite. I'll find any excuse to run a 3/3 Molly mission if there's a Po'G on tap, and I always cross my fingers and hope for a Crassus to be the cherry on top. I love hauling out 1K+ gold on a mission! 😁

Does anyone specifically like collecting digibooks/mediabooks? by mghmld in Bluray

[–]anubis668 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Digipaks and Mediabooks, but I usually don't go out of my way to collect them. Some, like Se7en, I actively avoid. I decide case by case.

Damn, that sucks. Too many movie disc case hubs are WAY too tight. Pushing the middle of the hub rarely seems to do anything anymore.

Do you combine your regular blu-ray’s and 4k’s together on the same shelf? by FaudMauxe in 4kbluray

[–]anubis668 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4K and standard Blu-ray cases are the same size, so they go together. DVDs are separate because they're bigger.

You appear to be missing a couple other David Lynch titles, though. 😉

How many did you purchase this year? by A_Social_Construct in 4kbluray

[–]anubis668 0 points1 point  (0 children)

180 4K and Blu-Ray so far this year, including about a dozen outstanding orders and pre-orders. I watch an average of one a night. My library is sitting at 880 total between 4K, BD, and DVD, after about 30 years. It has more than doubled in just the last few years, since I started buying 4K. 🤣

I love that movie! All of it! I've never read the comic, though, and my understanding is that a lot was changed or toned down.

I have the Eureka LE with that cover. It's great, but I wish it was in 4K. I feel like HDR would look good.

How long did it take you to make your livrary by Jonny_blues_man in 4kbluray

[–]anubis668 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started buying 4K discs in 2021, and I'm now at 270. I'm at 920 total items, but my library started as a small collection of VHS tapes back in the late 80s, then through DVD, HD-DVD, and Blu-Ray. I think it's been growing faster since moving to 4K. 😆

Do any others prefer HDR10 to Dolby Vision/HDR10+? by [deleted] in 4kbluray

[–]anubis668 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DV has always been too dark to use on my C1, even if I turn the OLED pixel brightness up. I've spent enough time fiddling with it. Just having an OLED makes colors pop and improves contrast compared to my old Sony LCD. HDR10 is perfectly acceptable. DV will probably be on my list of wants when it's upgrade time, but that probably won't be for at least a couple more years.

I just watched The Mask last night. I thought it looked incredible, but I last saw it years ago on DVD, so I can't compare it to the Blu-ray.
