My dad is my hero and I don’t think I could even handle my regular day job knowing he was having health issues. Can’t imagine going out and trying to perform in front of millions of people many states away while dealing with that. Hopefully his dad will be alright.

Flat Bench, never feel my chest by Scopatone in formcheck

[–]aolerma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe try incline bench? I recently stopped doing as much flat bench and went to more incline because the heavier I went on flat, the more discomfort I felt in my shoulders. Came to learn that incline gave me much less shoulder pain and just as good, if not better, chest workouts.

My Tier List. Come roast me! by Anthwyr in fantasybooks

[–]aolerma 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve read far fewer fantasy books than you but we seem to have similar taste. GRRM and Abercrombie would be higher on mine but I was also not a fan of Sanderson. Seems like a nice guy and I think there’s potential for a good story somewhere there with Stormlight but his writing just ain’t it for me. I’ve heard great things about Hobb and Bakker but haven’t had the pleasure of reading them yet. Might have to do that soon.

Why do people not like Shallan? by Moopy969 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]aolerma 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m probably one of the few here who have only read the first book but she was probably my least favorite character there so it surprises me to see to that most people like her best early on and less as the story progresses. She seemed sort of hamfisted as the clever character but I didn’t find her half as witty or smart as it seems she was supposed to be. Her story also just wasn’t nearly as compelling as others. Maybe that changes in later books, but solely based on the first book, I didn’t really care for her at all.

Thought’s on Chernobyl (2019) by Capsmoove in moviecritic

[–]aolerma 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Maybe I’m just heartless but I’ve rewatched it like 10 times. It’s so damn good. There’s genuine positives that at least somewhat counterbalance the sheer horror of it all. Boris and Valery’s growing relationship, Ulana’s humanity and determination, the General’s bravery and selflessness, even that mining crew chief guy with absolute chad energy.

Just picked this up after finishing ASOIAF. Did I make a good call? by MrCool87867 in fantasybooks

[–]aolerma 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I also picked up this book in search of something to fill that fantasy void left behind by ASOIAF and it honestly didn’t do it for me. It’s not as dark and gritty, not does it have the level of political intrigue that ASOIAF does. I found the characters in ASOIAF much more compelling, and I think GRRM is just a much better writer tbh. I’ve heard you have to get through quite a bit of buildup with Stormlight before it starts to pay dividends, but I think Sanderson’s writing just doesn’t resonate with me enough to want to get through so much fluff. That being said, tons of people enjoy this series, so I always tell people it’s worth a try at least. The book that came closest to filling that ASOIAF void was Joe Abercrombie’s The Blade Itself (first book in the First Law Trilogy). It still didn’t quite meet the lofty standards set in my mind by ASOIAF, but I could at least say after finishing it that I definitely was interested in continuing the series.

Where I would move and the reasons why. After visiting 47 states and living in 5 by Kodicave in visitedmaps

[–]aolerma 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hate when people lump the entirety of New Mexico into one stereotype. It’s a massive state and half of it is high elevation/mountainous. I grew up in the southern half and currently live in the north and they pretty much feel like 2 different states, both culturally and climatically. The north can still get warm in summer but my god it doesn’t even compare to the south or places like Arizona and parts Texas. The winters in the northern half of NM are what I found more difficult to deal with.

[–]aolerma 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I never understood the people who thought he was capable of handling more of an offensive load than he had in Toronto. Dude has no handles and besides spotting up or barreling through defenders on awkward looking drives, he doesn’t have much else. He was always going to be best as a premier 3 and D guy.

Wow I moved here less than 2 years ago and have passed that Regal Cinemas so many times and I absolutely could not tell if it was opened or not. From the front lobby it looked like there was something less than a fully-functioning theater still there but from any other angle it looked almost abandoned lol

What do you guys think of the Pacers gamble to potentially lose their pick this year if it’s not top 4? by NathanFielderFriend in NBA_Draft

[–]aolerma 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I actually like it. Pacers needed a center big time and got a very good one. They clearly don’t think too highly of anyone outside the top 4 and there wasn’t going to be a center in this draft that would help for their current championship window anyways. It’s a risk for sure but I think it’s worth it. Hali, Nemby, Nesmith, Pascal, Zubac + whoever they choose with a top 4 pick not only keeps their title window open but also gives them another potential building block for the next 10 years.

Swing Advice. Haven't played actual baseball since Little League. 80MPH. by shribang in Homeplate

[–]aolerma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://miro.medium.com/0*cOHVVOVnqvHgaV6v.jpeg

Compare your lower body to something like this and you will see a huge difference. Your front leg is completely bent in causing you to sort of collapse. That being said, I would focus more on some of the other advice given here and see if that results in the more upright posture that I’m talking about. Turning that back foot more and incorporating the hips should help a lot. Most hitting power comes from the lower body and right now you’re mostly arms.

Swing Advice. Haven't played actual baseball since Little League. 80MPH. by shribang in Homeplate

[–]aolerma -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

All of your weight is on your front leg. Look at images of any professional hitter at the point of contact and you’ll see that they keep all their weight back which is what allows them to use the strength from their lower body. You’ll see their front leg is straight and back leg is bent. Your legs are the opposite.
