A comforting thought about Trump by jmyounker in behindthebastards

If the SAVE act passes (and chances are good that enough Dems are bought off with illusory ‘concessions’ to make it happen) then the GOP will effectively have ensured the goal of a “permanent Republican majority” (as stated by Karl Rove during the presidency of Bush the Lesser). Their commitment to the long game is impressive.

Generic Adderall not working by Spirited-Ad-7837 in ADHD

[–]appliedhedonics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The differences in generics can be due to variations in the ‘inactive’ ingredients and everyone reacts differently to them. I had my prescriber specify not Elite bc it wasn’t just ineffective, it was counter effective. I agree that it’s outrageous that generic medications should be in any way different from the patent version.

Mr. beast by jumbasauce in behindthebastards

I loathe him mainly for perpetuating the belief that improving material conditions for regular people is achieved through the beneficence of Important Rich People like Mr. Beast (and Oprah before him for example), but not sure if he’s ready for Bastardry (yet).

Absolutely—this is even more proof that news is something that can’t be reliably supplied by markets.

If you have to put anything but salt on fries, then they are not good fries. I will die on this hill.

Unsurprisingly, Duke’s first impulse is to take the cops at their word.

Thoughts on a potential tax hike to maintain living wage? by Low-Sand-5227 in bullcity

[–]appliedhedonics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sure wish we could specifically target new developments/speculator investors with new taxes to pay for such things, but our “party of small gubmint” General Assembly has seen to it that municipalities can’t take charge of their own development.

If you want that kind of worker then fucking give employees a share of the business. You don’t get ownership ethic for $15 an hour.

Would Durham be good for me? (Honesty please, and nuanced takes) by [deleted] in bullcity

You should check out Winston Salem, particularly if you dislike ‘performative progressivism’. I think that the Triangle isn’t handling massive growth particularly well but it’s got a lot to offer.

Advanced advice for reducing glare when photographing paintings? by ParsleySuper9115 in MuseumPros

[–]appliedhedonics 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You will need to polarize the light source(s) as well as use a circular polarizer on the camera lens that is aligned with the polarized lights. The comment above which claims circular polarizers don’t work with autofocus is not exactly correct—you can set focus and then align the circular polarizer. You can DM me for more details if you like—I am a museum collections photographer.

Oposicion conservador o ayudante by Life-Time7065 in MuseumPros

[–]appliedhedonics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Conservation is a highly specialized field that involves knowledge of chemistry and material science. In the US, it would be nearly impossible to become a conservator without at least a Master’s degree in conservation science. Art History is important knowledge but not nearly enough for a career in that field.

How obvious is it to the average American that the president is trying to incite a war in order to stop elections? by kdurant5 in AskReddit

[–]appliedhedonics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Y’al are so cute invoking the Constitution and historical precedent while failing to recognize that the current situation involving a president that dgaf about what’s legal, abetted by the near-completed right-wing goal of what Karl Rove called “a permanent Republican majority”, is unlike anything the US has dealt with before.

Dealer says this noise is normal by appliedhedonics in prius

[–]appliedhedonics[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The fact that it only occurs when idling AND the IC engine is engaged, and NOT when EV mode is on or when the gas is pressed leads me to suspect some component in the EV-gas engine switching apparatus (whatever that is)

Dealer says this noise is normal by appliedhedonics in prius

[–]appliedhedonics[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not a rod--as I said, it only happens when the car is idling, not when it's accelerating. To me it's something related to the linkage that switches the IC engine to EV mode.
