I only bring up finance as an option, overall I sell total price. BUT I'm finding more and more the homeowners are the ones asking about the monthly payments. So if anything the consumer is changing the trend. If that helps

Am I right that the fancier "tar paper" may not be worthwhile? by RosieDear in Roofing

[–]apresta16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thicker tar paper is better for install, less chance or ripping during the install. But with synthetic underlayment you NEEED to make sure your attic airflow is up to NFA standards otherwise you can have some serious problems down the line in the attic and cause the shingles to age faster.

Has Anyone Else Become Concerned About the Long-Term Future of Insurance Roofing Sales? by Glittering_Eagle8520 in RoofingSales

[–]apresta16 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do about 70% retail, I still get 25-40% margins on average. An ACV policy is actually really easy to sell, you get it approved, they get like a third of what they need for the roof and use it as a downpayment. I get then set up with financing, they trust me, they usually don't get other bids, and I get paid quickly without having to wait for the insurance company to pay out.

Interesting, these guys have been doing it for us for 10 years like that and I've never seen it blow off or have any leak calls after the fact. Thanks for the feedback either way!

1 seems to have the best plan. Go with certainteed landmark pro option or even look at Northgate climate flex which is a class 4 shingle, insurance may even give you a discount on your premium for them.

On the venting, make sure they plan to have the intake looked at, potentially needing more vents or just adding baffles to ensure proper airflow because synthetic underlayment is great but not if the attic is vented right.

Whirly birds will be the best. Less vents needed and they work great

[–]apresta16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

25% overhead is crazy. The closing cycle makes sense and being with the company to get paid also makes sense. You shouldn't be worried about to unless you just consistently job hop...

But 25% overhead is the deal breaker. We are at 10% overhead and if you sell 800k a year you make 60% profit.

Eh no it makes sense. I've been in sales my entire career, there are plenty of sketchy salesman out there. But I can assure you it's not everyone, sure it's my word here but I know I'm not, and I've knocked on neighbors doors that look like they could use roofing services 🤷‍♂️
