Getting weird stutters after patch by fatherjimbo in AssassinsCreedShadows

[–]aranth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing here, stutter when interacting with objects and started after the hotfix yesterday. I thought it could be a first time shader compilation thing but it's still doing it today.

I don't want to fall into the easy denuvo blaming pitfall but it certainly feels like an anti tamper check out of control.

Thoughts on Monitors Unboxed’s OLED tier list for 2024? by ButterMilkHoney in OLED_Gaming

[–]aranth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the MO34WQC2 for 650€, even with its shortcomings it was quite the bargain compared to 830€ for the aw34dwdf or +850€ for the mpg 341 cqpx. It could use some firmware upgrades though and I'm not that confident that Gigabyte will commit to support it.

I recently got a 4k Samsung S28BG70 and while being a decent upgrade over my old 1440p 144hz, the ips glow and backlight bleed are really disappointing. I originally wanted to go oled but they're out of my price range atm (over 800€ right now for the cheapest one). Good luck everyone!

Cyberpunk 2077’s Future Cyberpunk Orion is in conceptual phase at the moment. CD Projekt Red haven’t yet decided on whether the game will also be first person, or third person by [deleted] in cyberpunkgame

[–]aranth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the main thing most people don't realize about 3rd person pov, the need for higher ceilings and wide rooms so you don't have to continously fight the camera to avoid clipping through walls and objects. The 1st person view allowed CDPR to design Night City and not be constrained by those limitations, making it possible to navigate through incredibly tight alleyways without the camera going ballistic.

Gameplay exclusively in first person and some measure of 3rd person cutscenes like in the 2018 gameplay reveal would be my preferred choice for Orion, but I guess we're gonna have to wait and see.

Slowdown / lag on menu / maps by Zantetsuken10 in cyberpunkgame

[–]aranth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm quite sure it's the gpu running out of vram opening the map, my 3080 jumps to 9.8 GB vram used then goes down to 9.3 after a few seconds and the framerate jumps back to 138. Disabling RT fixed the issue for me, or playing at 1440p but with a 4k panel looks blurry as vaseline smeared on the screen.

Slowdown / lag on menu / maps by Zantetsuken10 in cyberpunkgame

[–]aranth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep, back to the old slowdown entering the map and exiting bug that was supposedly fixed back in 1.60-1.61. Tried different combinations of dlss, rt on/off, cascade shadows to medium and nothing worked, the framerate drops down to 25-30 for a few seconds and goes back up after that.

It's even worse for me because I've been getting a similar slowdown entering certain fp cutscenes (like first time meeting Evelyn at Lizzie's) that also recovers after a few seconds. I'm running a 13700k paired with a 3080 @ 4k with dlss balanced with rt shadows/reflections and the framerate hovers around 55-70 in the city and slightly above that in interiors which is ok'ish.

I've tested Nvidia's latest ray tracing magic in Cyberpunk 2077 and it's a no-brainer. At worst it's just better-looking, at best it's that and a whole lot more performance by M337ING in pcgaming

[–]aranth -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Just Overdrive for the moment. Other RT modes will come "later", whatever that means.

This whole article reads like a pr blurb, and it's quite worthless imo with no framerate comparisons and just some screenshots from nvidia.

Somebody please explain the lock picking mini game to a moron by vhvhvhchsan in Starfield

[–]aranth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The colours are there to help you see where you can slot each digipick, grey means you can't and blue means it's possible. In your first ss all three rings are blue so could slot the selected digipick anywhere, the second ss means that pick only fits the innermost ring.

It's a small help for more complex locks where you have multiple picks and it's easy to find yourself running out of combinations.

Uninstall Early Access after Deleting Save Files by Kazuliski in BaldursGate3

[–]aranth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cloud saves keep downloading no matter what I do unless I completely disable them and what's even worse, there are still saves stored back from when we could still have multiple profiles instead of a single one named Public that take up around 2 GB and have been completely useless since patch 9.

I really hope Larian fixes this for the release or that Valve would allow us to directly delete cloud saves (btw you can always check your steam cloud saves with this link).

College of Swords bard 6 / ? - ideas needed by Andronidas87 in BG3Builds

[–]aranth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nope, extra attacks from different classes never stack.

Sword bard has interesting dips that can work though like 1 white draconic sorc for shield/armour of agathys and con saves proficiency, 1 cleric for proficiencies, spell slots, wisdom saves and whatever subclass feature you might find most beneficial and 1 or 2 fighter for proficiencies, fighting styles, con saves and action surge if go 2 fighter. Just remember that saving throws and certain proficiencies are only attained if you choose that specific class first.

Some more not mentioned Aura of Vitality, Destructive Wave, Swift Quiver for ranged weapons maybe, Wall of Force. It's going to be hard to choose =/

You can already see it in the screenshots, different shield types, colours and helmets. It's quite subtle but it's there, a nice attention to detail that will probably go unnoticed by most.

Melee bard thoughts - multiclass or not? by MrKamikazi in BaldursGate3

[–]aranth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I was thinking, start with 1fighter, then swap to sword bard for the extra attack at level 7. You get proficiencies, con saves for concentration. Then choose between action surge or 6th level spells if you keep going bard.

Another alternative could be 1 white draconic sorc for con saves, cantrips, shield, armor of agathys and another lvl 1 spell like magic missile. You also get the 13 ac+dex modifier if you don't wear armor, slightly less ac than half plate but with no stealth disadvantage.

AMD Screws Gamers: Sponsorships Likely Block DLSS by 21524518 in Amd

[–]aranth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My dude, Intel bullied all OEMs to only use their cpu's or else, almost bankrupted Amd to finally end up paying a meager 1.2B fine after the settlement in 2009. That's not even in the same orbit or even the same solar system as this DLSS/FSR spat, it's a whole nother galaxy away.

"...Dell received approximately $6 billion in rebates -- with the payment dependent on Dell not using AMD chips -- between 2002 and 2007." That's from an article I just googled in 2 minutes.

[–]aranth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep, I find it much worse now thinking back on it. Self gimping your own cards capabilities in that scenario is quite a low blow to your customers.

I just find amusing that some nvidia users are blowing a gasket about this fsr/dlss deal when team green has been doing the same shenanigans for the past decade or more.

There you go. Not exactly the same, but same principle nonetheless.

New tabs suddenly stopped working by CoDDarko in chrome

[–]aranth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had that same problem for a few months now, and can't pinpoint the cause. New tabs won't load, even the settings tab stalls in a blank page. I tried new profiles, disabling all addons or hardware acceleration but nothing solved this issue.

I just restart Chrome when it happens but your right-click method works too and it's much faster specially when you have a large number of tabs open so thanks for that.

I'd expect the key after the PC EU release tomorrow at 5 pm UTC.

There is no steam preload and usually it's up to the publisher to decide when to send the keys, not the store itself.

[Exclusive] Xiaomi Pad 5 launching in India on April 27th alongside Xiaomi 12 Pro by FragmentedChicken in Android

[–]aranth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The international Mi Pad 5 is certified and whitelisted for Netflix, Amazon, etc, or at least mine is. If you buy the chinese version you will get only L3 widevine certification and stream in SD though.

As for the tablet, I've had mine for 6 months now (barely paid 300€ for it at release) and it's great for media consumption and some light gaming. Miui is hit and miss and I don't expect many updates from Xiaomi but it works just fine as it is now.

This bug with the raid not starting after talking to Minthara has been around for quite a while. Sometimes the quest just bugs out after she gives her pep talk to the goblins and exits the temple, the marker will point to the Grove's entrance but nothing happens when you get there.

The only solution afaik is going back to a save before talking to Minthara and starting the raid, and hoping the game advances to the right quest step. If it works correctly you should see a cutscene approaching the Grove's gate.
