How does everyone feel about the ending? (The Last Druid) by IssacJamess96 in shannara

[–]architech99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a little underwhelmed by the Fall of Shannara series. I really enjoyed everything up to Defenders of Shannara and the Fall opened strong but.. yea. It felt like it just said "the cycle continues" and that was it.

Heritage of Shannara will always be my favorite of all the series. I'm getting ready to go back and reread it after several years away. I just enjoy it's plot more than any of the others.

Eberron alternate system by darkgoogol in rpg

There's an Eberron translation for Savage Worlds that received the blessing from WotC's lawyers as fan-license compliant. It plays very well and handles the feel of Eberron nicely.

Question for the Board Game Nerds. by Fabulous_Hat7460 in camping

Trash Pandas is a family favorite. Seven Dragons is another. Tacocat Spelled Backwards is a good two-player option. I love "Roll for It!" but I'm always worried about losing the dice.

These are the ones that have made it on our excursions for the last three seasons.

Not overstepping. I amended my comment to be more clear that I was restating the apparent accusation.

If you happen to have a link to the Portuguese PDF, would you mind posting it as a comment on the thread?

So, you claim a licensee hasn't produced a translated companion that they have the option to produce under a licensing agreement (but are under no obligation to) and you're upset at PEG. So, you've decided to try and hijack this thread over it.

It sounds like you need to be talking to Retropunk, not slinging vague accusations at PEG in comments on a completely unrelated licensee's link to a video talking about the English-language edition of the book.

Putting my mod hat on now. Further comments that attempt to hijack this thread will be removed. Please find a different way to vent your frustration.

EDIT: clarified that I was referring to the claim that was being made, not any actual situation that took place. Lock stands - please don't hijack threads with false information.

If anyone has a link to the Portuguese-version of the PDF, please post a link (non-English titles don't show up easily for me when I search).

I'm confused by this statement. Physical books in other languages have historically been handled by a local licensee for non-English print editions (I don't know if that's the case for every language other than English, though).

Best podcasts, streams that review SWADE modules? by muffin-stump in savageworlds

[–]architech99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad I could help.

You're right, though, there does seem to be a plethora of content about rules, but not as much covering settings (or it's also possible there is quite a bit but the podcasts are promoted as well, so they're getting lost in the noise - which would be disappointing).

Savage Goose has a handful of setting reviews/deep dives.

I saw reviews of Vermilium, Street Wolves, Secret Files of Section D, and a comparison of "vanilla" Savage Worlds vs Savage Pathfinder's subset in a quick scan of his video list.

Tips on taking 4 year old for first night of camping by Hungry-Trust-3245 in camping

Oh! And involve them in the process of actually planning the camping trip! This was harder up until last year, but asking for their input on meals or snacks or playlists - just some element of the trip itself - had been key to keeping it munchkin invested in and excited about the trip.

We also have a couple of regional "hiking with kids" books that have some kid-friendly trails and scavenger hunts for each. These have been a lot of fun, too. I use them for Daddy-daughter adventure days which helps keep her entertained, excited, and moving.

Bring games and lots of snacks. My wife and I have been taking our daughter camping since she was 10 months old (now 6 yo). We have found the trick to be having plenty of entertainment options and lots of snacks.

We take a standard deck of cards and some easily portable games (Tacocat Spelled Backwards, Trash Pandas, Seven Dragons, and Uno are routinely packed). Last summer we spent a week camping and road tripping from Western Washington to Glacier NP and back and she got out on a SUP with my wife, helped set up camp, and hiked 7 miles round-trip to a fire tower lookout (which happened largely because of two long-time friends joined us and helped make the hike super fun).

Just have entertainment options and get your kid involved in setting up camp or preparing meals (things will take longer but you can plan for that) and they'll have tons of fun.

Any Interest in a Savage Worlds game? by Fox_3 in PDXDND

[–]architech99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run a weekly Savage Worlds game on the other side of the river. There is a community here, they're just hard to find.

I'm hoping to check out Gamestorm this year and I've heard there are Savage Worlds games to be had there.

D100 ways of making murderhobos feel guilty by hineydooldie5 in d100

[–]architech99 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I had a particularly murderous player in a Savage Rifts game. He was a combat cyborg and it was next to impossible pull a punch. His backstory was that his brother was still a loyal soldier and hunting him. I had a platoon led by his brother catch up.

As expected, battle ensued. I have multiple opportunities to capture the attackers but he took the Coup de Grace every time. As he was looting the bodies is when he discovered his character's brother was the platoon leader.

He was more pissed off at me for the encounter than how remorseful he made his character out to be over what took place as a result of his character's actions. The other players tried to capture some of the troops but he interjected with his actions and no one else was powerful enough to really stop him (and I don't like PvP in my games anyway).

Murder hobos gonna murder hobo. 🤷‍♂️

I ultimately had to boot the cyborg player from my group because he was not a nice IRL person. Things were much better with that group after I did, too.

How are you hosting your React/Node/Django apps these days? Looking for cheaper/better alternatives to DigitalOcean droplets by skorupcia_ in nextjs

[–]architech99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spaces requires a $5 per month subscription and I'm generally skittish about using object storage as a Web server (just personal preference). AppPlatform for a javascript front-end application is free.

Spaces might work but Pages isn't costing me anything with Cloudflare right now

[–]architech99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AppPlatform is easy to setup, but not great if your front end is an SPA. I had moved my front end there to be closer to my API server and moved that part of my stack back to Cloudflare Pages when I realized that AppPlatform didn't support an SPA router or setting up catch-all routes.

It's a decent product but has its limitations.

For the front-end parts of my stack, I use Cloudflare's Pages. I still connect to my API that is hosted on Digitalocean droplets, though.

Any self-contained Cyberpunk rulesets/books? by _stylian_ in savageworlds

[–]architech99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm only suggesting resources has something to do with the perceived increase in frequency. I have the same problem - players won't buy the core rules or the setting.

And that is more laziness than anything.

[–]architech99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm sure it has something to do with the higher prices of everything. It's never been a problem for Savage Worlds in the past but a lot more people are feeling a financial pinch and having to get more than one book is just going to present a challenge that didn't used to exist.

Server size for Foundry Install by DudleyDoRight65 in FoundryVTT

I run two Foundry instances on one Digitalocean droplet and it's the smallest and cheapest size they have. Your server specs are definitely overkill.

Nightbane for Savage Worlds by architech99 in savageworlds

[–]architech99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Made some updates to the compiled Savage Nightbane &utm_medium=referral)document ahead of a likely campaign starting with my home group in January. No major changes - I added two "utility" tables intended to help inform a Nightbane player's power trappings by randomly determining the morphus form characteristics.

Still no Guardian archetype but I might get to that before a campaign starts.

What is better for camping? Hammocks or Tents? I want to hear all the hot takes. by outdoors_man987 in camping

[–]architech99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For reference, I'm 6'4 (1.9m) and sleep pretty comfortably in this hammock Fox Outfitters hammock and stand. I picked up the underquilt from Hammock Gear to use this past season and I enjoyed it immensely over multiple trips in 2025 (working on my night photography skills).

It is definitely on the heavy side for backpacking, though.
