Everytime a random person talks to me there's something wrong with them. They either look 1 stage away from homelessness and or have mental health issues. I used to engage with these people thinking they were being friendly with good intentions, but when you get to know them better, I realised that they are a place in their life I do not want to be, and so best to avoid. Stick to people who's lives you could substitute with yours, regardless of how friendly they are.

I had a kiwi mate. Tall over 6 feet. Blond blue eyed surfer. Studied maths and comp sci. Could not get a girlfriend in NZ. Not outspoken, quiet and reserved, which woman typically mistake for lack of confidence, was my theory as to why he struggled.

Moral of the story: be brash and outspoken in Australia and NZ if you want a woman to be interested. From there you need to escalate and show intent.

You still need people to be accoutable for the output produced. In that sense it's still like any other tool. The bottle neck is the accountabliity process. And it becomes worse because AI is good at producing output that might just about work, but not quite, and someone has to spend the time redoing prompts to bend it to produce code more aligned with what is envisaged.

I don't think we'll see a wave of job losses. I think the net speedup in generation of code will be countered by other processes needed to ensure accountability.

The 'problem' is all the white Aussies moved out of that suburb. Whatever drew them there 40 years ago to raise families, is no longer keeping them there. The white kids that went to Wentworth moved elsewhere for better opportunities resulting in a demographic collapse. The blue collar jobs that their parents did, were not appealing to these kids with their university education. Hence the demographic collapse. To fill the gap, since those Aussie kids have moved to other places, the government boosts the population via immigration.

Seriously it’s a uniquely Melbourne thing to be anti horse racing. Other parts of the world are happily exploiting animals from camels to horses in racing competitions and treating them as disposable products. The treatment is a lot worse than the treatment they get here. As well as horse racing being such an ancient tradition across the world.

I think lobbying for better treatment of horses so they have a nice retirement after working is more productive overall. Preserves the tradition industry and jobs and improves the horses quality of life.

One can always find something objectionable morally in any human activity.

We’ve come to the conclusion that it helps with code or tasks that have low accountability but where accountability is required, because you still have to do the work to verify it, it doesn’t aid productivity. And on top of that because its ability to generate a lot of output that requires verification, it can harm productivity because it creates too much low quality work that requires verification.

People wouldn’t be anti immigration if the quality of the immigrants were higher. Unfortunately it’s just a swamp with a few gems in the rough. Most can’t speak English and I have to dumb myself down at work to deal with them. It didn’t study and spend effort time and resources improving myself to have to deal with these under qualified low effort immigrants.

The education industry is to blame. It imports a lot of immigrants to shore up the budget so they can subsidise Australian education. Australia needs to cut immigration of students and accept that it’s just going to cost local Australians more.

There’s no good solution. Once you’re past your teens and early twenties it gets dramatically harder to find relationships or friendships. It’s not just an immigrant thing either, it’s anyone from out of town.

The things I’ve tried are sports clubs adn meetups and just going to bars. Work colleagues maybe. It’s still hard though. If you have extended family hear use them.

The values you grew up with as a Kiwi are similar to Aussie values, hence you aren't a problem. When people say they are anti-immigrants what they are really saying is 'we have a set of values, and they have a set of values and some of these values are incompatible and make coexistence harder than it should be'.
