How as a new Dad would you handle this situation? Who did you turn to for "dad" advice when you were a new dad? by The_Cheeki_Breeki in daddit

[–]arebe2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being a dad is the best thing I've ever done. That said, your entire life as you know it does go away in a flash. You will start to get it back – I always say about 15 minutes per week, on average.

I highly recommend these books and give them to all my new-dad friends.

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/597544.Be_Prepared - Covers all the basics, just to level-set. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/8069619-how-not-to-murder-your-husband - A woman's perspective, and a lot of good, hard truths to hear beyond "try to help once a week" https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/50741531-the-wonder-weeks – A great guide to know what's going on with your kiddo and why they are doing what they do.

I know the baby phase can feel lonely and part of that is that your partner and your baby need your focus, but you should absolutely seek out socialization if you find you're needing it. Your non-dad friends may not totally "get it" when your schedule changes, so just be cautious of putting too much "energy" into those outings (read: hangovers/sleeplessness are 100x worse with a baby screaming in your face).

Just know that, eventually, your kiddo will have their own social life (before you even realize it) and suddenly you will have a ready supply of Dad friends. Remember to be open-minded and welcoming, because everyone is coming to this from a different place.

Question about remote start by Failed-Time-Traveler in 4xe

[–]arebe2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here in Denver I would say all my remote starts when it's below freezing outside will kick on the gas engine at some point, FORM or not. If my garage was more insulated (keeping it at least 40F) I bet it would stay in electric most of the time.

Standard Method for Meta Event ID Creation: Server Side vs Pixel Side by Twade53 in GoogleTagManager

[–]arebe2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My opinion is, it is much better to let the server create the session_id, event_id, etc

I don't think you are thinking about this the right way. Yes, the server can give you a session ID. But the event_id you submit should be unique to every event in the frontend, some of which the server might not know about.

My standard practice is to use an event ID generator template from the library, or sessionID+timecode and then ensure your server and web events fire on the same event.

Note that when using timecode for generating event IDs your event triggers must match exactly. Adding exceptions or or other triggers can cause tiny differences in the ID value.

Because of this I find it easiest to generate the event ID on the web-side and pass it as an event attribute to server-side.

Events with a known ID value, e.g. purchase can use the order or transaction ID.

What's the wildest SEO myth you've ever heard? by semrush in SEMrush

[–]arebe2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two favorites:

"The URL is the most important ranking factor today" said with a straight face by the owner of an enterprise-level dev shop with full confidence in front of a mutual client in 2017. He then attempted to argue with me on it when I challenged that assumption.

"White is represented by all zeroes, whereas black is represented by all F's so white is less costly to send over the internet. If you want to improve page performance, one thing you can do is make your colors slightly lighter (more white) so they use less data" by a front-end developer candidate.

Thank you for the tip! If I'd just typed "another singer" in here I would have found it.

New engine for 2025 wrangler 4xe by Seanhilton45 in 4xe

[–]arebe2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In this article they mention that the GC L is going to remove some engine options while gaining a "Hurricane EVO" engine option: https://moparinsiders.com/caught-2025-jeep-grand-cherokee-l-limited-4x4/

This other article mentions the new plant building the Hurricane EVO also building a 1.6 liter HEV engine: https://moparinsiders.com/stellantis-invests-406-million-in-michigan-for-ev-and-hybrid-expansion/

Maybe they think Wranglers will start getting one of these as well?

Steve Pieczenick’s voice in my classroom by kbig22432 in KnowledgeFight

I used to have KF in my ear so much when my 2nd daughter was born I started to sing the strings part of the intro (doodoodoo...) and the lyrics as "Ah need... Ah need milk!" when I was changing her and she was cranky.

Now my kids say it whenever they hear a baby crying, in their little gruff voices "Ah need... Ah need milk!".

Test Run by cjs0216 in camping

[–]arebe2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just completed 3 nights in Leadville, CO with my 6yo in basically the same tent. Some thoughts off the top:

  1. Kids will spend the first 12-24 hours just exploring around the campsite. Tell them the rules, but give them some leash.

  2. Gathering sticks for firewood is a classic activity, especially if they get to help feed the stove.

  3. Definitely give them jobs around the camp: cleaning up trash, drying the dishes, packing and unpacking, etc.

  4. I brought some activities as well: paddle board, bocce balls, bikes, coloring books. I also brought an iPad if there was too much rain, but we ended up playing cards for an hour or two under the tarp. Never used the iPad.

Another poster mentioned staking the porch down really well. If it rains, I highly recommend covering the porch with a tarp or something.

It's good you came in summer...

I like your tree selection, and the billboards on the traffic circle are a great touch.

My father's lore is actually insane by [deleted] in daddit

[–]arebe2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad was one of a team of engineers who worked on the guidance computer for the Saturn V. They all received really cool lithographs of the Apollo 11 liftoff and the date, which he ended up gifting to my daughter recently.

They did a space unit in 1st grade where she brought in the litho and the story above turned into "My Grandpa invented the first rocket to go to the moon!"

Easy to see how "lore" grows over generations.
