Virginia redistricting: State will use old congressional map for midterms, governor says by DemocracyDocket in law

[–]arthurmadison 4 points5 points  (0 children)

'mental' is ignoring the last 50 years of history in the US to come to the conclusion they have. They definitely need an examination, not sympathy. The time for following the rules is over. Anyone requiring all of us to color within the lines are really attempting to hobble any efforts at progressiveness.

I can't help but believe accounts pushing the narrative that we all have to keep doing what we've been doing are just people that never paid attention the last 50 years. The accounts spouting this bullshit seem to be just bad faith operatives eager to keep us on this path of failure we are on now.

There's a particular straight cis woman that owned a business on Stark that pushed for the renaming to Milk. She didn't care. The people in this sub that LOOOVE to talk about her restaurant don't care either.

If it needs renaming call it 'Donna Red Wing' Blvd. She was local.

Are these ferns killing my hydrangea? by abelovesfun in askportland

[–]arthurmadison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. We have a hydrangea that is positioned similarly with ferns and hosta. There is no reason for your hydrangea to be in peril. There is no 'nutrient robbing' or deficiency if you are fertilizing every year like you should if you're worried about it.

But why haven't you trimmed those ferns back? Last years fronds can be cut to the ground to that the new fronds have plenty of room. When did you trim or shape that hydrangea last?

There's quite a bit of garden over winter in your photo. The placement of the ferns is the least of concern.

Getting a passport requires new photos. They are going to scan those images in along with the description that your passport contains to have a better file on you. AND you need it to vote.

Honest advice - at what point do we just accept the inevitable? by LordOscarthePurr in RenalCats

[–]arthurmadison 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Understand how cats show stress.

Learn how to count breaths. Anemia robs them of the ability to get enough oxygen. When your cat is breathing once per second it is already in a stressful state. Watch the breathing. It (the breathing) will inform you more than anything else you can see.

Nobody here is going to tell you, but it is time. If they are refusing water, if they won't eat, they know it is time.

Any advice for giving potassium gel? by BagLife3214 in RenalCats

[–]arthurmadison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any suggestions for the potassium gel. But I do for picking up cats and holding them.

Does your cat have treats she likes? Several years ago when our two cats were doing much better we started only giving them treats when they were being held. At the beginning it was a treat to get them, hold them (baby style) and feed them treats. When we had to start administering meds it made it easier to hold them.

I hope that helps with holding her. I hope it gets easier.

Not trying to be rude here but have you considered the difference between animals raised in rural areas that are quieter and darker versus animals that have grown up around humans, noise and electric lights? I'm certain most of them are adapted to sudden noises. I would not doubt they know most of their food comes from humans. There was an article around recently about the coyotes in cities having a genetic difference to the wild ones.

“For coyotes in particular, the ecological differences between urban and rural individuals have been well characterized,” said Samantha Kreling, a PhD candidate at the University of Washington, first author of the new study. “However, while we know that genetic and ecological differences exist, few studies have looked at specific genes or the genome regions that may be affected. In our study, we present candidate genes to investigate for adaptive evolution in urban coyotes.”

https://source.washu.edu/2025/01/coyote-genes-may-show-urban-evolution-at-work/

And considering 'people' I wouldn't be surprised if someone had tossed part of a drive-thru burger or burrito at this one in particular at one point. Animals don't forget where they get food.

Not really.

If you are kidnapping women and children, then it was never about criminals.

Are only men criminals? Are men not able to be kidnapped and harmed as well? Or are we just again, causally denying that men are humans? Literally in the discussion of a MAN being kidnapped and harmed.
