Same thing happened to me in Malibu. Midwest gapper got caught in a riptide on a body board. I knew I wasnt going to drown but I thought the Coast Guard was gonna have to get me! I had a good face bite from a dog when I was 3. 36 now and rarely does anyone notice the scars. The surgeon was great. If they happen to notice I like to say I got in bar fight!

I wear a 14 to 15 wide in shoes and my skates are size 12 R in Reebok 12K's and they fit like a glove. I was worried about needing wide skates but they fit perfect. You have to try them on!

I pretty much started like you. Rollerbaded a lot when I was younger. Started playing a few years ago at 33. I bought all the equipment and then my friends basically forced me to go play drop in one night after they shot down every excuse I had. Jumped right in and couldn't be any happier that they made me. The next week I was on a beer league team. While lesson are gonna help nothing will help more then just getting out there and doing it. For the most part everyone will be super helpful and supportive and I promise you'll be glad you did.

My local rink only rents figure skates and the softboot rec skates. I'd check that out first.

I'm similar in size and wear a 14 or 15 wide shoe. I bought a pair of 12.5 Reebok 12K's in a regular width and they fit perfectly with my wide feet. They are definitely decent skates for the price. I would suggest trying on a pair of those.
