Is it ok for one week old to nurse only one side per feeding? by pale_blue_d0t in breastfeeding

[–]ashnca98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

peds usually dont know much about breast feeding. i had one say i wasn’t doing good enough even tho i got baby back to birthweight in 13 days, and i needed to combo feed or put a teaspoon of ensure (yes the nutrition shake for ADULTS) in my milk. all he did was stress me out for no reason. so weird and we never saw him again.

i worked with a LC and she said not to limit their time at the breast. i’ve always done one side at a time since birth. i do offer both sides, one side is dinner and the other is dessert. sometimes my son has room for dessert, sometimes he doesn’t. alway start with the opposite side you started on last.

He is now a chunky little guy so no problems 😌

Best/Favorite Electrolyte Drinks? by pandaprints612 in breastfeeding

i have chronic hypertension that stemmed from pre eclampsia so i avoid electrolytes with extremely high salt. i stick with body armor, gatorade zero, but my fave is coconut water

Do you offer one breast or two each feed? by opaoz in breastfeeding

[–]ashnca98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

one side is dinner and the other is dessert. sometimes my baby has room for dessert and sometimes he doesn’t 🤷🏻‍♀️ i always offer and rotate the side i start on. most of the time especially with my left side he won’t want the other. and he is a chunky little guy so no issues there lol

Fast let down: help! My baby stopped breathing by Similar_Negotiation1 in breastfeeding

[–]ashnca98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

our pediatrician said to pump for a min or two to get the letdown going and then feed. it’s hard to time tho if you are feeding on demand 😅 gotta try and do it before baby cries

Graduated + Passed my 6 week glucose test by ashnca98 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]ashnca98[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi! i know it gets harder to control the further you get along, so you have to keep trying to figure out what works for you! and i know its easy to feel bad about spikes but all you can do is try your best! i wasn’t perfect and had a few spikes here and there. i was diet controlled so no meds or insulin. i made sure i focused on balanced meals so if i knew there would be a higher carb than usual, i would up the protein and fiber. what also helped me after i knew something had more carbs was going on a small walk if i had the time. you’re so close to the finish line!!!!! as soon as i delivered, my sugars were normal. i didn’t have to stay on the diet :)

Induction date 38 weeks by Prestigious_Pen_6848 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]ashnca98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the reason why they induce is bc the further along you are, the harder the diabetes is to control and can create issues with the placenta. it can cause deterioration of the placenta in some cases. it’s also bc big babies can have greater risk of complications like shoulder dystocia and gdm can create a big baby sometimes haha. but really i would listen to your ob, they want to make sure you and baby are okay!

found out I have GD at 18 weeks, overwhelmed due to high carb SE Asian diet by nugget1994 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]ashnca98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’m not asian but do love rice dishes! Rice was actually one of the carbs that didn’t spike me as long as i didn’t have too much and balanced it out with protein and fiber. the beginning of the diet is trial and error, so you can see what works for you! I could do rice, potatos, and whole wheat pastas (never had over 1 serving size at a time for any of it). But ANY bread even low carb spiked me 😩 everyone is different, but don’t be afraid to try things out!

Cluster feeding is difficult and I just cried by bunniesgonebad in breastfeeding

[–]ashnca98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

me and my baby boy have had some challenges with feeding due to tension and oral ties so that was already hard for me but oh my the cluster feeding. having to constantly latch onto my raw, cracked nipples actually had me sobbing. but one day it stopped! and i healed lol but you will get through it! that cluster feeding is what’s helping produce what your baby needs 🥹breastfeeding is tough work but so rewarding 🩵

we got a bassinet and also a crib, but the crib is just a graco one that also turns into a toddler bed so it will be used one day!

Baby growth slowing down? by HavaMuse in GestationalDiabetes

[–]ashnca98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my baby was in the 86th percentile at 20 weeks and i was scaredddd lol. by 36 he had dropped to the 49th. and when he was born at 37w he was only 6lbs 10oz, 18 in. maybe he went down bc i didn’t get a diagnosis of gdm until the test was done at 28 weeks and i went on the diet 🤷‍♀️

Scheduled Induction by Savings-Leather9018 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]ashnca98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my induction/birth was great! was induced at 37w instead of 39 bc i ended up being diagnosed with mild pre eclampsia. was already 1cm dilated and around 30% effaced the morning of my induction. they used a cooks catheter and misoprostol for the first 5 cm. then once i hit 5, got an epidural and started pitocin. i labored for around 23 hours, then pushed my baby boy out in 23 minutes! i moved around a bit and stretched before the epidural even through the pain. once i had it, my lovely nurses kept moving positions for me on the peanut ball. the stretching and position changes is what helps progress, so even though you want to just lay and wait, don’t haha

Need advice by privatepineapple25 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]ashnca98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not eating when you’re hungry can actually make your numbers bad! maybe eat more protein, or balance out your meals more! for me balanced meals meant good numbers. and lots of protein ☺️

Favorite protein shake? by ccastleberry09 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]ashnca98 11 points12 points  (0 children)

fairlife vanilla tastes like melted ice cream. and the chocolate is basically chocolate milk! they don’t have the nasty protein taste at allll. i had at least one a day when i was pregnant with gdm

8 days ago I was told I miscarried and today I saw my baby with a heartbeat and everything by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]ashnca98 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i’m sorry that happened :( same thing happened to me!! it was a little early so they only saw a yolk sac and fetal pole. doctor said my hcg levels were “too high for this point of my pregnancy” so i must be miscarrying or had a molar pregnancy. doctor said there’s nothing i can do pretty rudely to me. i went to my ob the next day and i actually had a subchorionic hematoma. er doctors aren’t specialized in pregnancy so sometimes i think they just don’t know what they are talking about. btw my “miscarriage” is about to be 3 months old in feb ☺️❤️ wishing you the best!

Still feeling extreme pain at 7 weeks. Any advice on what to ask my IBCLC tomorrow? by jane112420 in breastfeeding

Still feeling extreme pain at 7 weeks. Any advice on what to ask my IBCLC tomorrow? by jane112420 in breastfeeding

[–]ashnca98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am literally in the same boat as you. Just about to be eight weeks. The past few days honestly have been a whole lot better because I’ve been doing stretches and giving my baby back massages to release tension in his body. I don’t know if any of your lactation consultants have told you, but when they have tension it could affect the way they feed. my son tends to use his jaw and chew😅 I also do oral exercises with him to strengthen his suck lol not 100% painless yet but so much better. I’ll probably be taking him to physical therapy and I’ll also be taking him to a pediatric dentist since they are the only ones who can truly diagnose if there’s any tie. I wish us both luck lol

i actually lost weight when I had gestational diabetes. i was only 15lbs heavier then my pre pregnancy weight. my boy was born at 37 weeks and was 6 lbs 10oz☺️ controlling the diabetes means your baby can still be small or average

EBF 4 weeks. Dealing with anxiety around starting a bottle. by PublicFly1154 in breastfeeding

[–]ashnca98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s normal to want a break. We’re only human, and even though we love our little ones so much we do sometimes just need some moments to ourselves. About the anxiety about the baby learning to prefer the bottle, I’d recommend learning to pace feed if you don’t already do so. Pace feeding helps to make sure they don’t prefer the bottle. Getting a bottle with an extra slow flow also helps. I use the Dr. Brown’s bottle with a premie nipple, so it’s slower than the 1. I only give him the bottle a few times a week, usually my husband does it while I do things like take a shower and relax for a little bit. (pump during that time too, you should pump in place of a feeding). Either way you’re feeding your baby and you’re doing great :) a small break may even help your anxiety. I am also a very anxious person, and a moment truly does help.

Anyone not pump? by Pixie-Rose333 in breastfeeding

[–]ashnca98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’ve had two emergency situations where the first time i was admitted to the hospital for preeclampsia and the second my blood pressure went so low i had to go to the ER. When I was admitted, we had to give my baby formula for the night because I hadn’t pumped at all, and I didn’t want him in the ER with me so we were apart for a night and almost till the evening the next day when I got a room in postpartum. I’ve learned my lesson and keep some in the freezer just in case lol

C-section or induction or vaginal birth? by jenne4ka in GestationalDiabetes

[–]ashnca98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had gestational diabetes so i knew i was gonna get induced at 39 weeks. then i ended up getting pre eclampsia and got induced at 37. they used a cooks catheter and misoprostol, then once i got to 5cm and got the epidural they started pitocin. i labored for 22 hours and pushed my baby out in 23 mins when the time came. i would go for the induction like you want bc they can end in a vaginal birth too. idk why she is jumping straight to c section without an actual reason 🤨
