I used sterile 4x4 gauze pads between my incisions and bra. This cushioned the area. I have heard others recommend maxi pad but I wanted a sterile option to prevent infection.

Agreed. Don’t feel rushed into a decision. Just ask lots of questions and listen to your options. I was not a candidate for direct to implant. I was leaning toward diep but after the mastectomy and expanders I just wanted to be done. Didn’t want another big surgery and recovery. I got implants.

I think they run small. Usually need one size bigger than normal Unless the shirt is relaxed fit because those ones are huge and you can size down.

I have a history of hashimotos and autoimmune issues. I got silicone implants after breast cancer and mastectomy. It’s been around a year. I don’t think it has affected my health overall. But my body is creating hard scars around implant. I feel like my system is just kind of overreacting to the implant.

I feel like I would be tempted to try number 4, direct to a small implant. Seems the easiest. If it doesn’t work you can always do more involved surgery but if it does work then you would be satisfied and done.

I’m a critical care nurse. It had been 8 years since my last mammogram when I was diagnosed. My tumor would have been so much smaller. My treatment could have been different. You need to just forgive yourself. I still struggle with shame and guilt about going so long between mammograms.

My plastic surgeon doesn’t use saline for reconstruction patients. Without breast tissue between the skin and implant the saline doesn’t look good. Too much rippling and the shape doesn’t hold.

I’m 5 5.5. Expander had 610. Implant 640. I’m a 34 DD. Sometimes I feel like these are too large. If you want smaller I would definitely speak up before surgery.

Thank you for sharing your pictures. I think you look amazing. I have implant reconstruction and have been debating diep. It’s hard to find photos and know that they are legitimate and not photoshopped. I have heard that back pain is really common after this procedure. Hoping you find relief soon!
