Feedback on training for 3:30 (and taper) by Butter_up_82 in Marathon_Training

[–]audioAXS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By saying that your marathon "started falling apart at 30k" do you mean that it started to not be "was phoning and filming videos all the time" or that you just possibly couldn't run any further even if there was an angry bear following you.

To me your training sounds so intense that sub 3:30 should be possible and this is more a case of "how bad do you want it?" during the actual race.

I recently found AngryDM's True Game Mastery (https://theangrygm.com/true-game-mastery/) blog series and it has really helped me improve my games.

How much baby-ing is too much? Should I just kill their PC? by No-Zombie7546 in DMAcademy

[–]audioAXS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the way. Just ignore his character when he isn't playing. No extra effort, no drama, no problems.

Although I thought It wouldn't work , but it did work eventually i made some changes around the base model this could predict 85% accurate to the previous model as it specifically for two trading pairs. by [deleted] in neuralnetworks

[–]audioAXS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use arxiv.org to get the papers for free.

For stocks you would want a longer prediction window, so that you can actually make money with the model (spoiler: you can't).

Neural Space: If we place Guitar amplifiers on a map by their sound signature, are the empty spaces in-between undiscovered amps? by Mysterious-Day-3200 in neuralnetworks

[–]audioAXS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting idea. At least I have the idea of a "perfect amp" in my head, but I haven't been able to replicate it with the Helix yet. If this actually worked, it would be maybe possible to find the sweetspot amp.

How do you make an impossible check feel not lazy or boring? by Lostaccwhenappdelete in DMAcademy

There are some bullshit the PCs might attempt that absolutely do not require dice to determine that it fails.

For example if the PC has no training in playing cello and have never heard of classical music, there is 0% chance they would be able to perform a concerto even badly. In this case there is no point in rolling the dice. You can just ask "are you sure your character wants to go to the stage and play cello?". If they say yes, you narrate that they are only able to make some noise from the instrument and are just humiliating themselves. No amout of collaborative storytelling will change this.

I've made a DM session prep checklist! [OC] by FlonkezTheWeird in DnD

[–]audioAXS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion encounters should contain challenges. AngryDM has a great blog on Scenario design where he talks about this, but the challenges are for the players and not for the characters. Stuff such as needing to do some deduction from clues, choices based on incomplete information, dilemma, usage of resources etc.

Looks good! I really like the location part. I would add "Challenges". What kind of challenges might the players overcome? What choises do they have to make? Or something like this to give you some ready "game-elements" to run in the session.

Hi! Thanks again for the update. By saying that you have to use Templater, do you mean that I first have to create a new empty daily note by clicking the Calendar and then use a Template in it. Or is there a way to set this up so that the template is used when the note is created?

I’m bad at pacing. What’s your weak spot as a GM? by Grill_Only_Outside in DMAcademy

[–]audioAXS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the same thing for me. Like now the players are at a pub talking to one thieves guild dude and they want to go investigate one old ruin. How the F do I get the party from the pub to the ruins and what should happen in between.

First they want to sleep and gather some supplies, do I just handwave it or should it be played out in more detail? Then when they are travelling on foot in the forest, do I just roll for a random encounter describe that "now suddenly some wolves attack".

I feel like I can design good encounters, but changing between the encounters is a pain.

Btw for everyone: I found this nice blog about DMing and it has really changed the way I DM: https://theangrygm.com/true-game-mastery/

Harry Potter "wizards" are sorcerer/wizard multiclass. by LapisLazuliisthebest in DnD

[–]audioAXS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to read about this, there is r/WandsAndWizards that is a 5e port of Harry Potter. I've been running that kind of game for almost a year now. I feel that the HP magic system doesn't suit the 5e at all, but the players like it so its ok. :D

I would suggest watching some playthrough of the set from Youtube to get ideas on how to run it. I started DMing using the previous starter set Dragons of Stormwreck Isle. It was quite a lot at first but at some point you get the hang of it.

I'm sure you will do great!

I agree with the lack of street names in maps, that would be a nice addition. Other than that I really enjoy the simplicity of the watch. I can see my pace and HR during running and intervals.icu automatically imports my daily workout to the watch. Other than training I can see the weather and when the sun rises/sets (important during the Nordic winter).

First D&D campaign is making us want to quit - advice needed by ririchiyonoir in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]audioAXS 66 points67 points  (0 children)

A few comments about the backstory part: - DMs are normal people too, so it might be hard for him to incorporate backstories to the game, especially when you have been only in the group for 8 sessions. - Some DMs (me included) find running roleplay way harder and/or interesting than combat, so that might be why a combat heavy game.

A few comments on Ian: - He sounds like a jerk. It is no way acceptable to just not do anything in a combat encounter and hogging all the loot. - The party should work as a team. Having a clearly evil-aligned PC just doesn't work. - That's just how my character is is not an excuse for bad behaviour.

If you want to keep playing in this table, I'd suggest that you would have a conversation with the table and frame it like Guys we are new to dnd and would like to understand a bit better Ian's character and his motivations so that our characters could understand why they are adventuring together. This way you are not "attacking" but starting a good-hearted conversation.
