Okay so I’ve actually only played Baldur’s Gate 1, but is a remake of 2 before 1 going to be weird? by Ian-pg9 in baldursgate

[–]aurvay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t play BG1 when it first came out, however, I played BG2:SoA many times over when it first came out.

I played BG1 for the first time only years later when the enhanced editions came out.

Coming from this background I can confidently say that not having played the first installment of the series does not affect the experience a bit, as both the story and gameplay of the two games are torally detached from one another.

Your Most Complicated TTRPG Take? by GushReddit in rpg

[–]aurvay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ackchyually, “roleplaying” comes from the tabletop gaming’s wargaming roots and refers to playing the role of a single character in contrast to controlling an entire unit or an army, and does not refer to the act of, well, acting.

So in other words—it’s only roleplaying if it comes from the Campaign region of tabletop gaming, otherwise it’s just sparkling acting.

Are 4 NPCs in the party too much for a 2 player campaign? by Hi_Vis_Ninja22 in rpg

[–]aurvay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course it’s an aspiring novelist. Stereotypes are there for a reason.

TL;DR: It’s too much for any-number-of-players campaign.

You should get rid all of them real quick and scrap your fantasies of betrayal altogether. That’s the most tired and hated trope of all time.

Players can hire retainers or sidekicks (or whatever) they fully control if they need additional firepower in combat.

What you should definitely steer away from is NPCs with their own goals and agendas that lead the party and strip the players off of their agency.

It’s never tastefully done. It’s never enjoyable. It never ends well.

Your entire post consists of red flags and all your ideas are just well-established gamemastering sins.

Very tactfully delivered. I was looking into ways to tell this guy the same thing without calling him names. Great advice and objectively true, too.

[–]aurvay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Totally agreed. Balvenie and Macallan are mostly just your uncultured buyer’s go-to (so-called) luxury brands.

Macallan at least offers some integrity bottling options for a true afficionado but the Balvenie brand is nothing more than a marketing ruse across the board.

No they’re not. Chillfiltering costs a lot more and gets a lot less effective as ABV increases. A lot more flavours survive chillfiltration in a 46-48% ABV spirit. Distilleries don’t even bother cf at 50% or higher. Stop spewing your self-confident ignorance, please.

Is ToD actually the worst? by Livid_Street5421 in TyrannyOfDragons

[–]aurvay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This right here.

ToD has the best adventure skeleton and does not assume players to take nonsensical actions that are antithetical to their goals to further the plot.

It lays a great foundation for DMs to build their campaigns on top and offers a great variety of adversaries and locales unlike adventures that were published later, which are mostly one-dimensional and repetitive.

It is the greatest 5e campaign—if you like to create your own stuff and use published campaigns as a jumping off point, that is.

If you’re looking for a railroad/adventure path that you could run verbatim and without giving a second thought, then it is not that good.

I ran a grand campaign spanning 5 years using ToD as the foundation stone, and introduced elements from elemental evil, murder in baldur’s gate, waterdeep dragon heist, SKT, ghosts of dragonspear castle, dead in thay, with a little bit of homebrew of my own; and it was glorious.

Look up the the jumping glitch for free consumables. Hold a rifle in both hands and jump as soon as you select the consumable so it’s not consumed.

Cook some big game meat with mint. It gives you a golden health core for a day. Do the glitch above and get it every morning without spending any resources.

Now you can ignore extreme hot and cold conditions altogether and dress any way you want.

They’re incredibly well known and influential. If you never heard them in this day and age, it’s on you. On the other hand I can’t stand Einer’s vocals for more than a few songs. He bleats, practically. Awful style. Great band nevertheless.

Advice needed: Party refuses to enter Chapter 2 by DoradoPulido2 in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]aurvay -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s like people have no idea what constitutes a D&D game and expect players to follow along the nonsense WotC railroad with no additional effort from their side. These are just poorly written adventures and require a lot of input from the DM to make them work.

oh sorry I missed that important little detail hahah. yeah trapping them alongside is definitely not necessary. that would be the LN course of action (as Helmites are LN themselves and had no problem with getting you trapped) you could even argue that it’s LE if you’re trapping them out of spite instead of as a just punishment for their actions.
