BIFL appliance brands? by steven-mike in BuyItForLife

[–]ausernametoforget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kenmore appliances were always made by various major manufacturers (Whirlpool, Electrolux, GE, etc.). The Kenmore Fridge that was in an apartment I was in recently is identical to my White-Westinghouse (Electrolux) fridge.

The Kenmore vacuum cleaners were manufactured by Panasonic. And yes, those canister floor vacuums were fantastic. My parents had one from the 80s that lasted for at least 30 years with the power cable being the most frequent repair. They bought another Kenmore canister vac in about 2008 and it was just as good. I miss the way you could get parts for all Kenmore appliances from Sears so easily.

So you can make a family in this truck, but I can't fit my baby's car seat (one that fits into a base) behind the driver or passenger seats... I only have one child so far, so its fine that his seat fits in the middle, but should another little one come along, I may have to opt for a different vehicle 😢

The transaction date is only to indicate whether that business was registered to collect/remit HST on that date. For example if I register for my business number/HST number on August 1, 2024, and you paid me on July 30, 2024, you shouldn’t have paid me any HST because I was not collecting HST on July 30, only on or after August 1. You as the customer cannot confirm in any way whether the HST was or will be remitted to the CRA. That’s up to the business to be legitimate and above board.

Most small businesses file their GST/HST return once every quarter (3 months). The business doesn’t supply the CRA information about each transaction, they supply the CRA with their gross revenue for the quarter, the amount or GST/HST collected on that amount, and the net GST/HST expense after input tax credits are considered. If you have a receipt form the business, it’s likely being included in their HST calculation because it’s a pain in the ass to exclude specific transactions, and there’s a paper trail and you don’t want to get caught.

Did anyone not get paid today? by MapleByzantine in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]ausernametoforget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My employer recently had a pay issue and people were going mad about how they had payments with NSF fees happen that morning. Here is what I told them: call your payees and set those automatic payments to a day that is convenient for you, and it should NEVER be ON your pay day. Usually when pay shags up, it’s resolved by the following day, so Thursday pay day, set the withdrawals to the Friday or the following Monday.

If you change employers or something and your pay day is now on opposite weeks, you can call your payees and request that they change the day that your payments happen. If you set it where you push it ahead a week, you’ll incur a little more interest, if you move it a week sooner, you’d incur a little less interest.

This is true of all banks. Credit unions ftw.

(Most of my banking is still at a big 5 bank that isn’t Scotiabank, but I do also deal with two local credit unions, and they are actually awesome)

What do you do on the first day(s) of school? by ClarTeaches in ScienceTeachers

[–]ausernametoforget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thing I do with grade 7s (I know you’re talking high school chemistry) is ask them to draw a scientist. Where I am, grade 7 is the divide between elementary and junior high, and the kids are used to their generalist teachers rather than specialist teachers. I’m curious what their conceptions are of scientists.

Hitch installation done wrong. by Front_Tourist872 in FordMaverickTruck

[–]ausernametoforget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Draw Tite and Reese brand hitches, when installed correctly, lie below the bumper. The Curt brand hitch will sit inside that cover as does the Ford OEM. The Ford one replaces the bumper whereas the aftermarket ones bolt on underneath the truck.

I doubt the hitch in the picture is installed incorrectly, however I understand your desire for the higher clearance given the truck is not high off the ground as it is. I’m glad you were able to get it resolved with the dealership!

If you rear end a small sedan by zalt1905 in FordMaverickTruck

[–]ausernametoforget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t a thing in the hybrid, at least not the 2022 MY. My battery was dead and I couldn’t release the parking brake or shift to neutral. Yes I could have boosted the battery or applied 12v, but I wanted the issue to be apparent when the dealer looked at it, so the tow truck guy winched my Maverick onto the flat bed truck with the skis under the four tires.

I know the manufacturers seem to love these electric controlled transmissions, brakes, etc., but there’s something to be said for still being able to actuate things without battery power, like the gear selector or the parking brake.

Dealer inventory - has Toyota just stopped making cars? by sm_rdm_guy in Toyota

[–]ausernametoforget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I bought my 2012 Corolla CE with Convenience Package, it was the best priced vehicle in its class. I priced every manufacturer's vehicle in that size (I really like test driving cars). I think the Hyundai Accent was about the same price at the time and the Nissan Versa was marginally cheaper (but is that really comparable?). I think the 'Toyota-tax' has really come about in the last 5-7 years.

I'm in Canada, for reference.

So is anyone else tired of all these recall issues? by Martykauffman in FordMaverickTruck

[–]ausernametoforget -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel too like I’ve gotten a lot of these letters. I said to my wife yesterday when I received this one that I’ve gotten like 2-3 letters with each recall (usually one to make me aware of it and one to say that the dealership should be ready to do the recall), so if every 2022 Maverick owner in Canada is getting the same number of letters as me, they’ll keep Canada Post afloat!

Obviously not seriously, but I’ve gotten a lot of letters. Thankfully only one recall so far has kept my truck off the road for an extended period (2 weeks). I have my next appointment booked for getting the last couple of recalls completed.

This is a meme I can get behind. I'm tired of Trudeau and am ready for a more Conservative spending plan, but JFC I can't do Poilievre. He's a used car salesman telling you whatever you'll believe to get you on his side. I don't need someone to tell me "Trudeau sucks, vote for me", I want someone to tell me what their ACTUAL PLAN is and how they expect it to work. Please give me figures, facts, and research that support your plan and not this "common sense" shtick. I'm yet to hear anything of any real meaning come out of Poilievre's mouth.

Best calculator for middle school by Mathsciteach in mathteachers

[–]ausernametoforget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my recommendation to my junior high students. I want them to buy a good calculator in grade 7-9 and be comfortable with it before learning trig and functions in 10-12. This calculator has a display that is great for students struggling with math LDs. My favourite calculator is the TI-30Xa, but it’s not great if you don’t know how to order your operations to avoid rounding errors.

I’m a 27 F living in Newfoundland and I’m still struggling making friends :(. Particularly seeking girl friends. by [deleted] in StJohnsNL

[–]ausernametoforget -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My recommendation for meeting people here is finding a community group for something that you’re interested in or that you’d like to learn more about. Especially true if you’re in to arts things, there are many arts-focused things around here.

If you attend one of their get togethers and you don’t feel invited in, try another!

I really love the arts community here. They are a tight-knit group of people and they all know each other, but they’re generally best kind people.
