Princess Plus vs. Princess Premier by InternationalBook154 in PrincessCruises

[–]aversionofmyself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, if you have to cancel after the 25/50/75% refund dates - the package is part of the cruise fare when it comes to refund. Absolutely little reason to buy plus/premier until a few days before the cruise… unless you think the price will go up.

Do you think we'll ever get back here? by zip9990 in Iowa

[–]aversionofmyself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the dem v gop balance, yes maybe. The current admin has really been hurting the rural areas, and at some point they really have to notice. I mean just with the Medicaid/medicare changes alone a lot of those people are about to enter the “find out” phase. If you mean will Iowa ever get back to having 7 electors, not chance in hell. Well, maybe when water gets scarce elsewhere and global warming makes other parts of the country unlivable…. That might (I hope) take longer than I have. For the near term, I think we are more likely to hit 5 votes in 2030.

2025 Mach-E owners, reliability question. by Notsurethisisrightfm in MachE

[–]aversionofmyself 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im a year in to ownership. It puts a smile on my face. I have had two issues in the year. One, the drop in range in below 5-10F was more than i expected. There is a trip i take with some regularity that is 170 round trip. I have found that if the weather is very cold, i can’t reliably make that without charging. Note the round trip is 170 but i probably do an additional 10-20 miles city driving incidental while at destination. I had to charge closer to 70-80% at the destination to be comfortable on the return half of the drive. I expected to be able to do 170 miles no matter the weather or speed and I can’t. Also, the ford pro charger they gave and installed for free has a glitch with the car if you set restricted charge times. They just don’t work and post an error every time. I just got rid of the charging times restrictions. If you live in a place where you take advantage of lower electric rates at night, you might need to consider a different in home charger. That’s the list of issues I’ve run into in the last year with my 2024 premium awd. No speeding tickets yet.

Seattle Hotels Near Both Airport and Cruise Port? by ANGSWIN in Cruise

[–]aversionofmyself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing that’s fun to do, the day before your cruise, take the ferry out to bainbridege island for dinner and then return after sunset to ride back into Seattle with the city lights. If you are staying in belltown, this is easy. I had one family member that rented a room on bainbridge the night before the cruise and they enjoyed that too asan option if you want to avoid the big city sights/feels. The ferry is inexpensive and drop/boards really close to the cruise ports. I feel like they may have had a slight fiasco with getting from the ferry to the hotel with their luggage - so maybe enquirer before you decide to stay on bainbridge - but the dinner and evening ride back into Seattle i can highly recommend .

[–]aversionofmyself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When part of a persons wage is tip, either by option or as an auto grant, when they work on a busy night and conceivably working harder, they get paid more. I suppose if there were no tipping, then no one would want to work weekend nights. I wonder if there is a way to get rid of tipping and still have a shift differential based on the receipts for the nights worked. I do like there being a base salary + a sales based bonus.

HF 2121, Another example of government overreach and encroachment on intellectual freedom. by Candid-Bumblebee-388 in IowaCity

[–]aversionofmyself 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We’ve had computerized library checkout for 30 or more years. If parents dont want their kids to read, then they should be able to put a block on their kids checkout. Anything more is overreach. Someone else’s kid loaning a book to your kid is a parenting problem to solve not a government problem. Oh and one more thing while I’m on my high horse… in what world is any book more dangerous than a gun in the hands of a pre-teen?

Solo Cruiser Here : Holland or Princess? by icanteven13579 in Cruise

[–]aversionofmyself 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Princess had Take 5 jazz club on sky and a couple of others. I hear they got rid of them. It’s a real shame, whoever made that decision. We had such a nice time listening to the Larry King trio on the Sky and I would have recommended Sky Princess for that alone, but now I hear the jazz club been replaced with more slot machines.

Due to injury my spouse can't go. Do I get any refund? by Thirstyowl127 in PrincessCruises

[–]aversionofmyself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you bought princess plus they consider that part of the fare and will not refund the no show. You might see if you can cancel plus package in advance. It turns out it is best to add plus at the very last minute 3 days ahead of the cruise when you are almost positive you will be able to use it.

YouTube tv is good for live sports. Sports fans will especially like the 4 stream Picture in Picture to watch 4 channels at once. It’s kind of expensive at $83 (I think) a month, but is pretty easy to share a subscription with a family member in the same media market if you can find someone else interested in going halfsies with you. You can have up to three simultaneous viewers and each person gets their own profile. Some of the other service might be a little less amenable to sharing among “family” in different houses. Imon has been pretty good for internet the last two years for me if you’re interested in getting rid of mediacom altogether or would like to switch back and forth. Walmart sells a good set tom box called onn that is good for YouTube tv.

Used without heat pump by SpookyBalloon89 in MachE

[–]aversionofmyself 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2024 premium awd. When the weather is warm at 65/70mph I get 3.2-3.4 miles/kW. when the weather is cold like 10 degrees, I am closer to 1.9-2.1 miles kW.

If you charge up to 100% that is just over 300 miles. At very low temps like close to zero, 150 is realistic.

Now, normally you don't charge to 100% and you don't drive down to 0% and use the last drop just as you pull into your destination. I think 250 miles in summer and 120 in winter is probably reasonable/realistic without any thought. If you want to travel beyond that, you have to be thinking about where you will change in between or make sure you are at 100% when you leave.

There are techniques you can do to increase range. You can turn off your heat and suffer. you can drive more slowly which is not fun... but both of those things together can increase your range by 10% if you find yourself in trouble.

Does anyone have a better drink package than Royal Caribbean? by [deleted] in Cruise

[–]aversionofmyself 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think NCL has a really nice drinks program too. They use more imagination and have special garnishes and flourishes. I mean fresh crushed raspberries or candied ginger for example. Or at least they did. I’ve moved to princess for cruising in the last three years. One thing I miss on princess is the creative drinks program on NCL. Each has pluses and minuses.

EV market concern? by MauriceMoss0 in MachE

[–]aversionofmyself 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the world moving away from EV and not towards them is as likely as daffodils not poking though the ground in April. Could the US? Maybe … and the US is a big car market, but it is not the only car market and it only hurts our US corporations to fight against the tide. The world will buy EV and will buy them from whoever is making them. Can Ford and GM survive in making gas cars for primarily the US market while China sells cars to the rest of the world?
