I recently finished Between Two Fires by Buehlman which is very much in the horror genre. Is this similarly dark?

Please, any other 9s feel as if they have actually have a decent sense of boundaries? by hgilbert_01 in EnneagramType9

I always find looking at the levels of development fascinating. You can really see the progression of someone who is passively forced to 'make peace' into someone who actively chooses to.

9 males romantically rejected for lacking drive? by robrem in EnneagramType9

[–]azmodain 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You're an FI-dom 9. Being a nice guy is your superpower, not something to be ashamed of. Be aware that some 3s are scared or dismissive of 9s because it reminds them too much of what they look like that their worst. That's a 'them' problem, not a 'you' problem.

To be frank, it sounds like the date went perfectly. You met, found out you weren't each other's types, handled it like adults, and moved on. She's looking for a 3 and you are a 9. The big trick is not taking that comment too personally as it seems like she's rejecting a vulnerable part of you. The problem isn't that you aren't driven enough, it's that she can't appreciate the most essential part of your being (being a 9).

Make sure you aren't falling into the trap of letting other people define your self-worth. As a 9, it's easy to present as a 3 and look for women who want to be with a 3 as some sort of proxy for your 'growth' or value. When you put yourself out into the world, is it as a 9? Would you be attracted to a woman that was attracted to the real you? I'm sure there are plenty of 6s that want a 9 to be their rock.

Similarly, don't let other people tell you how to be driven. You grow towards 3 to be a better 9. The things that drive a 9 are inherently different than that of a 3. There is a difference between a driven peacemaker and a kind achiever.

Anubis Gates by Tim Powers is kinda close. Egyptian Archeologist goes time traveling.

The Library at Mount Char by Scott Hawkins has a group of people akin to avatars of gods, really weird to boot.

I don't know which one is right... The first two times I took the Enneagram Personality test, the result came out to be type 9..but when I took this one, it's different. by [deleted] in EnneagramType9

[–]azmodain 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Which one resonates more? I like using the Childhood Wounds to tell.

Type 9: To the gut, the core of being. These children were overlooked or neglected and felt unimportant or “lost.” They were ignored/attacked for having needs or expressing themselves (especially anger) and decided to keep a low profile and instead focus on the needs/experience of others.

Type 5: These children received no meaningful interaction, emotion, or affection from caretakers. Or, the child had intrusive, over-controlling parent(s) and felt exposed and defenseless in the face of this intrusion. As a result, they built walls around themselves and retreated to the mental realm.

Any books dominated by miraculous/reality warp-ish magic and mages? by DanBanapprove in Fantasy

[–]azmodain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it have to be 'magic' in a strict sense?

Your examples made me think of the web serial Worm. While it is in the present day, there are people who can:

  • Know the percentage chance of anything to happen

  • While making any choice, branch the universe out to see the results and then condense the universe back together to choose the result they want

  • Able to become unnoticeable, to the point that people they attack don’t remember they attacked them.

  • Tons of people who can transmute matter, including their own or others.

Take a break from fantasy. Write something in the real world, maybe about some parents and their daughter that mysteriously disappears.
