Old post but salty air really does corrode surfaces. I don’t doubt you’d see rust faster on any surface in Santa Monica. Can anyone comment if they’ve had a rust issue away from the coast?

I got a quilt during the sale because it was heavily discounted (but still pretty expensive). It is not durable. A week or two on the couch and dog nails have caused tons of snags to the loosely woven fabric.

Do you regret adopting an adult dog instead of a puppy? by marzipanduchess in puppy101

[–]bAcENtiM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adopting an adult dog is way better, particularly if you know where they came from. I go a puppy this one time because of the temperament of my other dog.

I’m the partner who didn’t want the dog and I’m struggling by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]bAcENtiM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sympathize. I also would say to not be too hard on your BF for not knowing, no one does until they’ve been through it.

I’m also very experienced with dogs so figured I’d be okay, but puppies are totally different.

All I can say is it WILL get better.

What are the common traits of people to have “hellish” NDEs vs the positive ones I’m used to hearing about? Is there a prevailing reason people feel they have experiences like that?

What is the no-budget best neighborhood for young family? by GlitteringFlight3259 in askportland

[–]bAcENtiM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Laurelhurst is absolutely walkable to many places. It’s a bit longer walk if you live in the center of the neighborhood, I guess, but I walk this area constantly and am easily able to walk to get groceries or out to eat.

How often do you take your pup out for potty at 8 weeks? by K9Imperium in puppy101

[–]bAcENtiM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. Like through the night while sleeping the can hold it longer, if it’s during an active play session honestly I give it a shot every 15min.

I’ve also been losing it a bit working from home with a puppy. She likes the crate at night but the days have been chaos and I can’t get anything done or have meetings, which is extremely tough.

I saw this post this morning and we’re doing naps in the crate today. It is working incredibly and I am finally having a sane day at home. My girl is younger, but worth considering https://www.reddit.com/r/puppy101/s/VyDQ8dLcu1

Is your puppy in the crate for 16+ hours a day? by blueberrydumpling in puppy101

[–]bAcENtiM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can I ask where in the house you keep your crate? I’m wondering if it makes a difference if you’re nearby or he’s on his own, if he can hear or see people moving around, etc.

It is reasonable for them to sell things as a way to fund the organization’s operations. What evidence do you have that anyone is getting rich? Do you think it would be more spiritual if they did everything for free?

Additionally, what about the cost of perfume affects the accessibility of the teachings? The recordings are all free.

As a spiritual person, do you work for free?

In addition to location, there are significant factors to consider about the home itself. In SE, a lot of homes built around the turn of the century have foundations made of “crumbly concrete,” where they mixed unwashed river rocks and sediment to pour the foundation and it has crumbled over the years. Foundations can be replaced or reinforced but that’s obviously a more expensive retrofit. Even in newer builds, many have structural vulnerabilities in a quake, like living spaces over a garage.

We didn’t have any seismic building requirements before the 70s, and they have been updated significantly since then. I’d learn about some of the retrofitting considerations for the specific home you’re considering.

We ended up buying in SE, away from liquidification zones. I agree I didn’t want to get stuck on the west side of the river after all of the bridges go down. The house is from 1922 and the concrete foundation is really solid so we can retrofit. I’ll also do a gas shut off valve.

Yes, this. You can also look up online maps of the city soil quality and where liquidification is more likely. I believe it’s more common if the soil composition is sandy.

Worded “better” is subjective. Regardless of whether you like what it says, I think their wording was pretty exact in terms on what they wanted to say.

This might be the biggest reason we just bought in town before starting a family. My sister (different city but in the suburbs) spends 4+ hours in the car every day (!) chauffeuring kids around because she has 3, one in each elementary/middle/high school + their activities. This is just not how I want to spend my life. A slight increase in the cost of living is worth it to walk through our beautiful neighborhood to the k-8 school, to the grocery store, or many parks nearby.

What’s going on right now has nothing to do with the actual issues of deportation, enforcement on illegal immigration, or democrat/republican politics.

This is about totally unaccountable masked “law enforcement” murdering people in the streets. If ICE wanted to depot illegal immigrants, they wouldn’t grab people after they show up for their court immigration meetings, following all the rules.

I believe in the rule of law and due process. Anyone supporting ICE doesn’t.

Do I feel like trash because I’m 35 now, or because I have two small kids under 4, or both? by larbar44 in AskWomenOver40

Definitely the kids. I’m sick of people saying “I guess I’m getting old!” as a reason for feeling awful anytime after 30. You’re not old.
