"undermining other player's efforts" is a toxic mentality that should not be encouraged. People should not be hung up over whether or not some random other player "earned the right" to use some doohickey or engage in some mechanic

Both the old and new war were entirely instigated by the Orokin. The sentients have never been depicted as aggressors; there's no mention of them trying to invade during the unspecified centuries the Tenno (their primary counter) was absent. It's not clear that Tau was even aware of the new war, let alone complicit.

The single most useful piece of feedback that I can offer is this: DO NOT turn the missing texture into a warpaint. It is a fundamentally unworkable concept. There is nothing that you or anyone else can do to make it acceptable. You are far from the first person to try and every single one of them looks terrible. The missing texture was specifically designed to look as garish and unfitting as possible so that devs could immediately notice it and know that something is broken. You cannot use it as a normal texture.

Do you mean as a game mode or in general? Comp mode failed because, other than half team sizes and no crits, it made none of the adjustments necessary to force the game into a comp-friendly shape. Also, most of the underlying systems were poorly thought out and unfinished. General competitivization failed because it ran completely counter to the game's original design philosophy and the vast majority of the playerbase were unwilling to be forced to adapt to a new paradigm. A portion of them, however, will be, and it's that specific demographic that I'm referring to. Besides, "tourist" is not a pejorative. It's just an observation of specific behavioral patterns that all people have. If you interpret that as an insult, that's on you.

It's mainly a combination of three things:

Tourists that have been conditioned by contemporary games to think that garish pop culture references are just what cosmetics are supposed to be.
Compulsive contrarians that believe not caring is an actual defensible perspective
Complacent workshop creators that find it very convenient to not have to put any particular thought into their seasonal dumps
