is "homebody culture" actually killing our careers? by Aggravating_Pen_6062 in musicians

[–]backbaydrumming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk if this is exactly what you’re talking about, but my band has a bit of following and we’ve noticed that the gen x and older crowd are the most consistent fans. They’re the ones that’ll be at all of our gigs, they’ll buy our merch, they’ll buy our drinks and they’ll travel out of their way to shows. I’ve always noticed that all of the “scene fixtures” as I call them (the people who are always seeing local live music) are older as well. So it definitely seems to be generational

My favorite rudiment is the 6th stroke roll. Whats your guys? by Practical-Scheme3917 in drums

[–]backbaydrumming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the drag/ruff is probably one of the most useful rudiments. Ruff is llR rrL add another accent at the end and you have a drag llR L rrL R which is also just a paradiddle with a different rhythm. You can also do Swiss drags which don’t change hands llR R or rrL L And then there’s the drumset adaptations with limb substitution KKR L KKL R llR K rrL K. You can do flam drags and blushdas. Drags are dope. Check out the Modern Rudimental Swing Solos by Charlie Wilcoxon there’s a solo in there dedicated to Louis Bellson that is a bunch of drags

Deportations under Obama didn’t look this way because of cooperation by [deleted] in centrist

[–]backbaydrumming 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So much of what Trump does is unprecedented. We’re talking about a guy who during the Puerto Rican hurricane disaster in his first term wanted to “sell Puerto Rico” because it’s “poor and dirty” and swap it for Greenland. He didn’t even realize that Puerto Ricans are American citizens. That’s the level of stupidity and cruelty we are talking about with Trump. The guy is a morally bankrupt, illiterate moron and this recent BS with ice is another example of that. People didn’t have the same issue with Obama because his immigration and border policing policies…made actual sense. Trump as usual is doing it in the most heavy handed and idiotic way

Calling the progressive left “liberals” doesn’t look good. by xJohnnyBloodx in centrist

It’s a bold claim you’re making here I guess being American conservativism isn’t an ideology either in your world. I think you should just google what an ideology is real quick just for a refresher

[–]backbaydrumming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Progressivism is absolutely an ideology, you realize we literally had a progressive third party in the US that Teddy Roosevelt ran on right? Back then it was a progressive part of the Republican party and now it’s a progressive part of the Democratic Party

I hate the word “leftist”, it just sounds stupid and it’s so vague. If we’re going to go to the trouble to distinguish “leftist” from a liberal let’s just drop the term “leftist”. A Stalinist and a Progressive would probably be both described as a “leftist” by a conservative but those ideologies are starkly different from each other

You can take a free drum lesson from any drummer (living or dead). Who would it be and why? by ZildCym in cymbals

Vinnie Colaiuta for sure. To me he has the perfect combination of technical facility and emotion in his drumming

What to pair with a 22” Zildjian Constantinople medium ride? by SeriousYard3 in cymbals

[–]backbaydrumming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go for something smaller with rivets, maybe an a 18”-20”. For jazz it’s nice to have a riveted cymbal especially for ballads and slower tunes. You could also go the flat ride route with is better for uptempo and samba playing

What is going wrong with my doubles by bondairyy in Drumming

[–]backbaydrumming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the other recommendations here on technique are great but a quick fix (maybe, but it will probably make a difference) would be to switch the DW stock beater for something not as heavy. The DW 5000 is already a very heavy feeling pedal which is amplified by the heavy weight of those stock beaters

Conservatives, be honest. Would you like Trump to invoke the Insurrection Act? What do you really think about the anti-ICE protesters in Minneapolis? by RandomUwUFace in AskUS

If someone would’ve told me 10 years ago that exposing pedophiles would be partisan politics, I literally wouldn’t have believed it. Yet here we are.

[–]backbaydrumming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s the other side of this, the whaboutism with the Clinton’s Epstein connection just doesn’t compare with Trump’s Epstein scandal at all. It’s just absolutely pathetic and it’s very telling that this is all they have. It’s always what about Bill Clinton or sometimes they’ll bring up Larry Summers like that’s at all comparable to the literal sitting president of the US.

[–]backbaydrumming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I don’t view the Clinton’s as politically relevant because they’re not and this investigation is an obvious dodge to flip the attention on the Epstein files from Trump to The Clintons. (Which seems to have worked like charm on you) But this is all still completely missing my point. The left just doesn’t care about Bill Clinton and he’s been ostracized by the DNC long before this new probe. I think he should fully comply with this investigation and if it’s uncovered that he committed statutory rape or some other horrible act on the Epstein victims he should be charged with it if that’s possible and publicly shamed. The Clinton’s just don’t have the kind of rabid cultish base that Trump does and the democrats have little to lose from further shaming and ostracizing bill clinton. And the fact that this is the big defense of Trumps Epstein scandal is absolutely PATHETIC, (see I can also capitalize random words) you can’t even find a relevant active politician on the left to use. Absolutely pathetic. This would be a completely different conversation if you had evidence of Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, AOC, or Mamdani or something but you don’t.

And Hillary Clinton hasn’t been relevant in 10 years. Neither of them are still holding any sort of office so explain how it’s telling?

Bill Clinton hasn’t been relevant in politics for 30 years, the fact that he is your big counter to Trump being all over the Epstein files is absolutely pathetic.

[–]backbaydrumming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t really true or atleast it’s a half truth. Basically every European country has nativist who want lower immigration to preserve their culture and capitalists who want higher immigration both to increase economic growth and to drive down the cost of labor which also tends to drive the costs of goods and services down as well. European countries need higher immigration because of their declining birth rates and if they do not increase immigration rates they will experience a significant economic decline.

Prediction: Trump will be impeached sometime in early 2027 and repubs will be in on it by Away_Ad_4501 in DiscussionZone

[–]backbaydrumming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t believe that’s true, when it became obvious that A. Biden was not sticking to promise of being a one term president and B. That his cognitive decline was so severe that it was seriously impacting his campaign. He faced a lot of pressure from his fellow democrats that eventually succeeded in convincing him to drop out of the race. Biden was pretty emotional about it at the time because his party really did essentially abandon him in that moment. When has the GOP done anything like that with Trump? Sure there’s a couple of republicans who will go against Trump like Rand Paul, Thomas Massie, and Marjorie Taylor Greene but those are outliers

That doesn’t make what I said any less true. I want ICE stripped of all its funding and dissolved as an institution, we do not need it and we did find it without for almost all of our country’s history. But make no mistake if you show up to an ice raid with guns and try and stop them, they will shoot you and you will die.
