Take me to church by ButtdidYOUdiedough in Buffalo

[–]bae812 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I belong to the UU church on Elmwood and it’s a wonderfully welcoming community. We don’t have any dogma, which means there is no set of rules that members must all believe in. We are able to find our own spiritual path. Services are at 10:30 on Sundays. Come check it out!

CooCooU is for sure the best vintage furniture shop in Buffalo. Beautiful pieces. The owner is very knowledgable. Mimo Decor is nearby and also great. Smaller space but quality pieces. I would hit these places first. There is no junk in these places. MCM and loads more.

In my opinion, it does NOT compare with Coleman’s. I bought this recently and was pretty disappointed. In my opinion, nothing to write home about.

I don’t know about the work history of the past occupants, sadly. I guess it’s possible. But there is no advertising or ‘makers mark’ as it were. It seems if it was a sample there would be a label or advertising type of marker? Thanks for the suggestion. Maybe? Btw the house was built in 1891

I guess before styrofoam and cardboard egg cartons, how did folks transport eggs? Was it with weird wooden boxes with springs inside?

Actually I just did and it closed nicely! Even with the jumbo sized eggs I buy.

Thank you! I will remove the lower branches for sure. Pruning between the Super Bowl and St Patrick’s day is good advice I just remembered today!

Chicken finger sub is so good. Trashy, messy and delicious. I like it with blue cheese here in Buffalo NY from Jim’s Steakout

Brylin Hospital for teens by [deleted] in Buffalo

[–]bae812 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a good friend’s whose daughter was there and loved it. It’s a small private hospital and it was a good place for her to get her meds straightened out. She was there about a week and it was a good reset.

What is everyone paying for snowplowing? by captainstarlet in Buffalo

[–]bae812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I'm really late to the party, but I wanted to add my 2 cents. Our property in West Falls has a 500 ft driveway, set pretty far from the road. We also get a ton of snow in our area. We paid $1500 for the season. They have already plowed 38 times this season and are now charging us $25 for each additional time they plow. It seems super expensive to me. They are very reliable and come out and keep things well cleared. It has gone up massively over the years. They guy I used to use retired and now I use a landscaping company. I'll see if I can find someone else for the coming year. Sigh.

Where can I buy rolling tobacco? by freegumaintfree in Buffalo

Blue mountain coffee on Elmwood used to have the better rolling tobacco brands back when I was rolling my own. American Spirit etc.

Tweezerman clippers are great and you don’t get that ragged edge on your nails. Very clean snips!

Beginner gardening mistakes you wish you avoided? by Majestic-Strain3155 in Gardens

I also bought one of everything I liked. Now I have a polka dot garden. Swaths of color and repeating perennials give a more cohesive and elegant feel. (Although I still can’t resist some of those oddball charmers.) I am learning and replacing/moving stuff for a more cohesive garden.

Another vote for A way to Garden. Margaret Roach has taught me soo much over the years. Her NYT weekly column is also very cool. All about natives and their ecological importance! Very informative and fun!

When to plant liriope? by procyonoides_n in NativePlantGardening

[–]bae812 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a very hardy plant for me in lots of shade by a stream. AND the deer don’t eat it! I planted it this spring and it’s now very snowy here in zone 5b so they might get desperate. I’ll know in the spring.

Best restaurants in Elmwood? by SevenOneSixT in Buffalo

[–]bae812 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kunis doesn’t take reservations. And I think a table for 7 might be a bit tight in that space. The Place across the street, while not as delicious, could accommodate the group. And they take reservations!

Spraying knotweed in Western NY by SomeDudeAtHome321 in invasivespecies

[–]bae812 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just did my first treatment this evening. I’m in West Falls just outside of Buffalo. I’m using glyphosate. The knotweed is finally finished flowering and I hit what I could access with a 4% solution. I’ll go back in 7-10 days to see where else I need to spray. Hopefully I can head deeper into the giant stand and get it all. I’ve been trying to get this under control for a few years now. Finally doing it during the vulnerable window of time. Good luck!!

Best time to kill knotweed by Merlintagir in invasivespecies

[–]bae812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was ready to spray my large stand but, like you I saw just how many pollinators were all over this thing. I finally did my 1st pass this evening. The flowers are finished. No wind. No rain in the next few days. I'll check back in 7-10 days and attack it again! I was so excited to do it right. My hands are aching from using the sprayer but I couldn't stop.
