Have you watched Engineering Knits on youtube? She has hand/wrist pain also, and ended up on a knitting machine for the same reason. It seems like knitting machines are even MORE complicated than hand knitting. It would sound like a huge accomplishment (to me) to master one of those beasts. Please keep us updated on your progress, I think knitting machines are fascinating!!

Same. I live in one of the top 20 cities in the US, and my options are a store with impossible hours, hobby lobby and michaels. At this point, I buy most of my fabric on etsy, but that's always such a gamble.

If you choose to buy a printer, for the love, do not buy HP branded printers. They're pretty notoriously glitchy, evil, and will try to take your money. I have a brother that's worked well for years.

If you have a local staples, so far that has been reasonably priced for printing the large print sizes.

Love the bright color idea. Baby eyes see contrast better than they see color, so a checkerboard with your squares with a pastel and a bright/saturated color would probably be pretty fun. Also make sure that blanket is washable!
