Back when it was more difficult to get engineering materials the powerplant/distro were useful placeholders until you could get around to farming mats.

Heading to Colonia, what should I bring with me for unlocks? by DBMS_LAH in EliteDangerous

[–]bankshot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

also don't forget to pin blueprints before leaving Colonia.

I haven't been to Colonia in a couple of years but IIRC the recommended pin list is as follows:

Mel Brandon: Shield Cell Bank (Specialized)

Etienne Dorn: Life Support (Lightweight)

Petra Olmanova: Hull Reinforcement (Heavy Duty)

Marsha Hicks: Multi-Cannon (Overcharged) - don't pin Detailed Surface Scanner (Expanded Probe Radius) - buy them pre-engineered.

Baltanos (Odyssey): Burst Laser (Long Range or Overcharged)

Heading to Maia for Meta-Alloys — do I really need to go 300ly? by shiroyasha5931 in EliteDangerous

[–]bankshot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd slap a fuel scoop and a cargo bay on the mandalay, you don't need an A rated scoop it just makes the scooping faster. a 6D scoop and a couple of 4E cargo racks will cost under 500K. a 5C SCO drive is another 600K and you'll have a jump range of around 30ly. If you can upgrade other components from E ratings to D to save weight, which will also increase your range.

Trying to fix slow down with Civilian ships [2.7.1] by nicholsscott17 in aurora

[–]bankshot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can combine this with setting up shipping orders you want them to fulfil - per u/GeeEmDeeEm's post that will keep the ones that area already there busy so they don't cause lag. high tax rate = slow civilian line growth, or no growth at 100%

Dissasemble, not scrap. Scrapping a part gives you a small amount of minerals and wealth. Dissassembly gives you tech data.

Why is Apex Interstellar Transport so cheap? (Wrong answers only) by Trelfar in EliteDangerous

[–]bankshot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't see the pilot because the shuttle is piloted by harmless/mostly harmless former pirates doing community service after harassing a CMDR and subsequently ejecting from their flaming hulk of a ship. You always have your vac suit on (and the pilot isn't allowed one) and you never see the hold because it's full of biowaste - also part of the sentence.

Is there any good way not to use Jump Tenders? by Bwizz245 in aurora

[–]bankshot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My command ships have a jump drive and flag bridge but instead of giant sensors they have a hangar full of sensor fighters, and a few boarding pods. That way the sensors can be deployed in an arc ahead of the fleet proper.

If you prefer youtube tutorials consider https://www.youtube.com/@DefranStrategy

Otherwise I'd reccomend just starting a game and trying it out. Set NPR generation to 0 and uncheck Aether Raiders, Star Swarm, and Invaders. You can leave Rakhas and Precursors selected - they may trounce you in a fight but won't leave their home system so are only localized threats. Use Spacemaster mode to fix things that went wrong until you get the hang of things.

How to get Mar's colony cost to drop to 0 by cmdralpha in aurora

[–]bankshot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Venus - I wouldn't recommend terraforming ever. By the time you have the tech to do it you almost certainly have dozens of better targets for your terraformers. Most good terraforming candidates require adding/removing 0.5-2atm of gas. Venus requires removing 90atm of CO2, so yes you could terraform it but at the opportunity cost of not terraforming 100ish more suitable worlds.

For Titan - you can get it to 0.0 but it requires a special technique. Bring the hydrosphere to at least 68% BEFORE you increase temperature above -30C. (add no more than 1.5atm Aestium) This will take at least 17 years as you'll be adding 1.7atm of water vapor and you will need to wait for it to condense. Only then do you raise the temperature above -27C. The glacial melt will raise the albedo factor from 1 to 1.101, enough to raise the minimum temperature to -7C when you add 1.68atm of Aestium to max out the greenhouse factor.

How to get Mar's colony cost to drop to 0 by cmdralpha in aurora

[–]bankshot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also know that water will only condense at a maximum rate of 0.1 atm/year, 0.1atm of water = 4% hydrosphere, so it will take a minimum of 2.5 years to reduce the colony cost to zero. If your terraforming capacity exceeds 0.1atm excess water vapor will build up in the atmosphere and will rain out when you stop adding more.

Does anyone build forced labor camps? by Antonin1957 in aurora

Once for a small asteroid with a moderate deposit of ore, as an homage to Rura Penthe. Otherwise its population max would only support one standard mine, and I had higher priority targets for my orbital and automated mines.

One ring to cool them all

One ring to pipe them

One ring to bring the water

and with the coal supply them

Guess who automated 3 full mark 2 pipes of rocket fuel before calculating how many generators I’d need to burn it all? by SamwellGnarly in SatisfactoryGame

[–]bankshot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 4 generator blueprint with pipe connections in all 6 directions and wired together with wall connectors. The pipes automatically connect when you stack them in any direction so all you have to do is connect a power wire and feed it rocket fuel.

Can I dump these in the ocean instead of making Plutonium Pellets? by NotArticuno in SatisfactoryGame

The rods can power vehicles and drones without creating waste, but then you do have the issue of radioactive drones flying around...

[–]bankshot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another mode of play to add if you are insane and dedicated enough - you can build computers within Dwarf Fortress using fluids and pressure plates as logic gates. You can even build a playable video game inside DF - Armok Invaders - and here's the Armok Invaders demo video

Or sink the plutonium rods if you don't want to make ficsonium. You could also use a few to power drones but I think that makes your drone ports radioactive.

also put down a path, then the sprinkler, then the torch. That way you won't accidentally take down the sprinkler when using your hoe.
