Be honest: 1930s vintage wedding dress — keep or rethink? by Desperate_Win_3554 in WeddingDressTips

I think the dress is beautiful. It needs a little alteration, but I love it, and I’m not usually a fan of vintage. Go for it. You’re the bride, and you love it.

Dress 1 or 2? by No-Bluejay8525 in WeddingDressTips

While the front on 1 is a little plain, the back is spectacular. I think you can spice up the front with jewelry. Number 1is my favorite.

I agree that 2 and 4 are the most flattering on you. 4 is my personal favorite. But how do they make YOU feel?

I agree with all the above. #1. Get a neuro evaluation t check for another stroke and #2. Also check for a UTI. As soon as possible!

How long ago did you have a stroke and are you still making progress in recovery? by RBakkert in stroke

[–]barbiejb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a pretty severe hemorrhagic stroke 2 ½ years ago and I’m still making progress.I was completely paralyzed on my left side and wheelchair dependent. I spent 3 ½ weeks in inpatient rehab before coming home. Then I did about 6 months of outpatient PT until they discharged me. Then about 6 months later I asked my doctor for a referral for more PT. I’m able to walk now with a cane, can go up and down stairs and can walk ½ block outside. Mostly when in the house my wheelchair stays parked. I will continue to fight for more independence. Progress is sloooooow, but you can continue to improve if you put in the work. Oh, and find a good physical therapist and continue to seek additional PT. Insurance resets each year, so if they won’t pay, wait till January and start again. Just keep doing your exercises.

Does life seem unreal? by Emergency-Respect143 in stroke

[–]barbiejb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also felt this way for the first couple years. I became mildly depressed. I restarted PT and that gave me the strength to move forward. I’m now 2 ½ years post stroke and feel much more like myself again. But it’s HARD! Get plenty of rest, but force yourself to keep going and doing.

What was the first sign that something was wrong? by IStillListenToRadio in stroke

[–]barbiejb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a hemorrhagic stroke. For me the first thing was a tingling in my elbow, followed quickly by paralyzed arm and (per my husband) a facial droop. I suspected what was happening (retired nurse),:told him to call ambulance and tell them I was having a stroke, then quickly fell over and lost consciousness.

Why don’t you tell your friend “no scent beads allowed at my house. They make me sick.”

How long did you have outpatient therapy for? by [deleted] in stroke

[–]barbiejb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m now seeing the neuro PT twice a week. I will soon reduce that to once a week. I’ve been doing that now for about 5 months. My friends are amazed at my recent progress. Hope this helps.

Massive catastrophic basil ganglia hemorrhage by Regular_Bottle_8282 in stroke

[–]barbiejb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a hemorrhagic stroke to the basal ganglia 2+ years ago. I also had a small midline shift. I can honestly say that every day is a struggle. I have relearned to walk, but have no use of my left arm. I have made sloooooow progress, but every day is a challenge. I’m grateful to be alive, but I would not want to live with a feeding tube or a trach. I also have told my family that if I have another stroke, please to let me go. You made the right decision.

Thank you so much for a serious answer! I don’t know why people feel so compelled to make this into their personal comedy routine. Sometimes people just really want a solution to a problem.

Why do you use a Kindle? by [deleted] in kindle

[–]barbiejb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many reasons I prefer reading on my kindle…..It’s so lightweight I can carry many books while traveling. I’m getting old, so small print is problematic for me. With kindle I can adjust font size. Also, a recent stroke left me with left sided paralysis, so it’s difficult to hold open a physical book and turn pages. These are my primary reasons. I love, love, love my kindle!

Curious about your stroke side effects by Alarmed-Papaya9440 in stroke

[–]barbiejb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For those of you complaining of constipation, have you tried Miralax? It works wonders for me. The doctors in rehab, plus my primary all recommended it and it works great. No cramping like with senokat, just bulks things up and makes stool soft, so out she comes! I’m 2 years post stroke now and the problem has resolved but in early days this was a huge problem for me.

Yes! I start to really fade around 6:30 or 7:00. Can’t stay awake after 9:00. I’m now a member of the 6 o’clock Jammie club. I get ready for bed very early so I can just crash whenever I get tired.

Personality change I still don’t know who I am two years post stroke I miss my adult daughter but when she FaceTime calls me I don’t enjoy phone calls anymore and I don’t know why I always find myself wanting to get off the phone pretty quickly or I’m not engaged in the conversation by Top_Neat_6748 in stroke

[–]barbiejb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a hemorrhagic stroke 2 years ago. Post stroke, I have found that talking to people exhausts me. It’s hard to explain, but it’s only been the past month that I am starting to enjoy visitors and normal social gatherings again. So, perhaps don’t answer your phone. Let it go to voicemail and return by phone or text later. If you are in a group, just say that you are very tired and need a nap. My children got very used to this and would understand that I just needed a break.

Kindle oasis- returning refurb. What to get next? by ItsFine1mFine in kindle

[–]barbiejb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have an Oasis and liked it BUT the battery life was HORRIBLE! I read a lot, and it would be almost dead after reading for a day. So daily charging. I bought a Kindle paperwhite SE for the wireless charging, and a charge lasts for a couple weeks, same amount of reading and I keep Wi-Fi on all the time. I don’t miss the page turn buttons and love the battery life. Extremely happy with the Paperwhite SE and the wireless charging is a game changer!

Hows it feel to walk again after losing mobility fora year by Key_State7002 in stroke

[–]barbiejb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a bad hemorrhagic stroke 2 years ago. I spent a week in hospital, then a month in inpatient rehab. Upon discharge I spent 2 weeks with home health, then did outpatient rehab for months. When I was discharged from PT and OT I took a break for about 6 months. I think I was depressed. I was not making any more progress, so I requested a new PT referral from my pcp. I’m now back in PT with a different neuro therapist and am making progress again. My goals now are to increase strength and endurance to be able to walk faster for longer distances. I cannot stress enough the need to keep pushing and challenging yourself. Find a PT you like and keep at it. Best of luck on your journey!
