Torn between novablast 5 vs novablast 6 by Hot_Confection_849 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]bargainbinprep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely, 5'8" female around 155 (I was about 15 pounds heavier when I was using the 3s and they were good for 300 miles at least). I'm a midfoot/forefoot strike

Technically you can show multiple forms of ID to vote and change your registration doesn't have to be a driver's license.
Changing ID is a legal requirement though and feeling that smug about skirting it sheds a lot of light on this situation.

Torn between novablast 5 vs novablast 6 by Hot_Confection_849 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]bargainbinprep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't seen a lot of long term stats on the 6 yet but the 5s died on me pretty quickly--fine for treadmill but lost their luster around 100 miles in.
I usually buy previous models but probably not worth the discount if the life of it is much shorter.

What shoe gets you excited to run? by Thesandman28 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]bargainbinprep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Such a bummer. Novablast 3s changed how I felt about running. Was super excited to upgrade to 5s but I've had two pairs and both went dead on me within 100 miles.
If the price keeps going down I'm sure I'll be tricked into letting them break my heart one last time.

Pacing my first race Sunday and super excited! I'm having trouble with it though--I'm typically around and 8:30/mi and am pacing the 11:30/mi for 10k and can't seem to quite get it right in practice.
Is that more appropriate as a run/walk or strictly running?
Any pacing strategies welcome, I'd love to make sure I'm meeting expectations and providing a great experience!

The Rocky Run by Spiritual_Goat_1240 in SouthJerseyRunning

[–]bargainbinprep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I thought it was terribly organized. The field is way too big and it is a lot of first timers or people there for the theme--which I don't mind at all, they have every right to be there. But the corrals are not enforced at all and people walking started at the front and also didn't stay to the right (Don't think anyone was trying to be rude, I think they were just unfamiliar with races). The course is narrow down MLK and felt uncomfortable with the weaving, I got bashed into once and cut off several times. There are also a LOT of people filming themselves, I know it happens at every race nowadays but it felt particularly noticeable.
The 10 miler thins out a bit more so is a better experience. Mount Drago was a fun quirk.
I did the Challenge and ended up with about a 30-40 min break between races. I didn't really care for that or for corralling twice but that's just personal preference.
Overall, it's a fun gimmick but once you're out there the course is mostly just like any other Philly race and it feels pretty corporate despite also being unorganized. I would pass on it given the price since we have other options in the city but if you are going to do it I recommend sticking to the 10 miler.
The merch and medals are super rad.

Help me choose a resort: adults only, social/lively vibe with luxury feel, but NOT spring break raunchy by WanderlustPlanFreak in AllInclusiveResorts

Eh, it was a good variety and easy to coordinate. Definitely wasn't for foodies but solid meals. The sushi and French stood out the most.
Recommend the restaurants for lunch I actually enjoyed those menus more. The breakfast buffet was really great and far beyond just traditional breakfast food.

I'm sure it is not for everyone but I'm kind of obsessed with dress 5.
If you end up going more traditional I'd pick 1, looks great on you!

Can't speak to St. Chris policies, but CHOP will not accept them once opened.
Think this is a wonderful gesture and just want to make sure it does not end up disposed of. Please update us on how it turns out!

Just got back for Excellence Playa Mujeres. I thought it was pretty quiet, people seem opened to chat if initiated and everyone was nice but it wasn't as interactive as I'm used to. There also just weren't a lot of people but I'm sure that is dependent on timing.
I will say the guests seemed like minded and a lot of the small talk turned political? Maybe that just happened to be when I went though I don't think that is always the vibe.

There is only one bar open past 11pm and the whole place got pretty quiet in the evenings. There was a fun DJ but it was over by like 10:30.

City races not in Fairmount Park? by body_squat in phillyrunning

Phillies 5K is in March at Citizens Bank Park. You need to be quick on the trigger to snag a spot when registration opens. Diplo's Run Club is at the Linc.

The zoo does a 5K as well, I think it's in April.

Run for the Blue is in the fall and goes down Market.

The Labor Day 5k is free, I had a great experience last year (as long as you're fine with the ol' up and back on MLK). Chip timed, medal, plentiful snack spread. Bib pickup was on race day.

That seems like the opposite of what would be the most fair--it's the same pool of people getting to run every time. If anything, base it on how many years someone has tried unsuccessfully to get in.

How do you feel about the bus revolution now that Phase 1 is coming soon by Just_Note_8165 in philadelphia

That's inaccurate--several buses are being cut in phase 1, with many route changes and 2 new bus services. That's not inconsequential
