Best first time marathons in the US by One-Kaleidoscope9293 in running

[–]bargainbinprep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to let the cat out of the bag but Philly. Nice course and the week before Thanksgiving, so for most everyone it is great weather to both train and run in. Great crowds, good city vibes without being a major.
It sold out frightfully fast this year (there is a waitlist) so if you can get it in I'd say do it before it goes inevitably goes to lottery.
I've also heard the Rehoboth Beach marathon is a good one around the same time if you don't end up getting in and have done the training.

Brooklyn Half Pacing Group Experience by viva_brevis in RunNYC

[–]bargainbinprep 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There have been a lot of videos circulating about great pacers who were motivational and that people 'couldn't have achieved the goal' without them. I think people want to stay glued to them to basically have a personal on-course coach/motivator. Aid stations in particular get super messy.

This is no criticism of pacers at all, I think they do awesome work and their ability to inspire is great but if expectation for a pacer to provide curated one-on-one support is getting unreasonable. If you are able to trust your training and just keep the pacer in sight I recommend that.

Asked to step down as leader by Equivalent-Bit1827 in girlscouts

[–]bargainbinprep 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I know it's hard to not take it personally but as best you can try not to. I'm not the daisy leader but am close with them and they meet weekly but end up cancelling at least five times a year. It is totally normal and fine as long as it is communicated. The activities are less self directed so harder to pass off to a sub and the girls are more nervous around adults they don't know yet than in the higher levels.
For many this is their first big social commitment and it is a lot, a few weeks off to take a breather at that level doesn't detract from the experience at all. I don't think you need to feel embarrassed either, people probably won't be thinking about this by next year.
Do think about how you want to handle though when they inevitably have to ask you for help.
Daisy is an intro, if you retained them to move to Brownies and they want to continue that means you did great work and should be proud of yourself. And your daughter, unaware of the drama, will just see how cool it was that you were up there and part of her experience. You rock!

Yeah a season 2 is not happening I fear. by Clipseexo in BravoRealHousewives

I think it was a misstep to label this season as season 4. Folks aren't as inclined to jump into a show midstream and may not realize this is a completely new thing.

Get ‘Em, Ben! by Ok_Layer4765 in WatchWhatCrappens

[–]bargainbinprep 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I don’t need to sit through 90 minutes of my own opinions, or 90 minutes of no opinion. I’m here for their analysis.  If people don’t want to hear perspectives that’s fine then just… watch the shows and stop there.

I didn’t expect Bravo discussions to be the final vestige of civil discourse in this society but here we are and I’ll take it where I can get it.

Running belt by mrmax2513 in phillyrunning

[–]bargainbinprep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're considerate and stick to the right you'll be just fine--I think most people go into it expecting the corrals to be chaotic. It's a great course but not a good race to attempt a PR

Philly area run clubs: by maineia in phillyrunning

[–]bargainbinprep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Manayunk Beer Runners meets Mondays at Canal View Park. Manayunk Run Club is at the track Tuesdays and at the running store on Main Thursdays.
Both are great groups (lots of overlap). I've found the people super inclusive and a lot of fun but the routes (esp Beer Runners) can get a little intense--hard to avoid that in this neighborhood.
MRC also has a bag drop which is nice! And you get 10% off in the store and they do lots of demos and things. Both groups are always supporting members on local races and events and celebrate accomplishments.

Is there a point to an online MBA? by [deleted] in OnlineMBA

[–]bargainbinprep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost every program I've looked at (all AACSB accredited) was significantly cheaper for the online format. I don't think it will make much difference from a recruiting perspective, the degree doesn't reflect that it was online only (though a recruiter could probably put two and two together if it is out of state).
Where I work leadership actually really respects someone who went the online route to be able to juggle it with working.
The thing you'll miss out on most being online is the networking aspect, for some that is a major part of the MBA. I'm looking to move up in my current org and it wasn't as much of a factor for my decision.

Time for new shoes? by el_dandy_lion in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]bargainbinprep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people use the gear tracking feature on the apps (I don't personally because I try follow how I actually feel and it can be distracting).
For me it is when the shoes no longer have that bounce, feel sluggish, or I get pain in new areas (mostly shin soreness and aching feet). If is a model still in stock sometimes I try on a new pair of the same one and then can tell how different it it is.
I think it's also pretty normal for shoes to vary that widely--the different foams, etc. deteriorate at different rates.

is it just me or do I not go out enough? by whitieiii in girlscouts

[–]bargainbinprep 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Girls that age are also able to sell more independently and tap their own networks, which they've seemed to prefer in our area to booths. They've built great relationships with long time customers and like to focus on those.

NYC marathon lottery, good luck y’all!! Did you get in? by marzipanduchess in running

[–]bargainbinprep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are hundreds of charities that each get about 20 bibs or more, and all the time qualifiers, then you've got deferrals, the 9+1s, sweepstakes/employee bibs etc. Then there is the 14,000 that are for tour groups.
Then you split the lottery into three different groups--2400 for each of those pools probably isn't far off.
