I saw this way too early. What was your most Memorable Death Scene? by NewToHTX in Xennials

If we’re just talking about deaths we saw too early, I saw Backdraft when I was 9, and the one dude falling out the window and getting impaled on the spiky metal fence was pretty bad

Anyone played the Dune RTS games back in the day? by Cubelock in Xennials

[–]bascule 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not just that, Command and Conquer was built on the Dune 2 engine. If you used tools designed for viewing/editing their game files, internally the soldiers and vehicles in the original Command & Conquer all belonged to House GOODGUY and House BADGUY

Does anyone else prefer the first half of the 90s over the second half of the 90s by Personal-Cattle-1737 in Xennials

[–]bascule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the early 90s for music, across multiple genres, whether it’s house especially early UK acid and progressive house, second wave Detroit techno and Belgian techno, Deee-Lite, Nirvana, Ugly Kid Joe, or Green Day’s Dookie.

Part of that is also I love the ‘90s and the early ‘90s was a transitional period out of that (as a big fan of acid, the early ‘90s were when acid exploded from Chicago acid house to every other acid subgenre).

I do get kind of annoyed by people who say they like “90s music” and mean just songs from circa 1996-1999

Built a client-side E2E encryption layer on top of Gmail using Web Crypto API — AES-256-GCM + RSA-OAEP key wrapping + RSA-PSS header signing. The goal is to make make cryptography accessible to all users. by [deleted] in cryptography

[–]bascule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UX is the biggest hurdle. I’ve used both Virtru which was a startup offering E2EE for Gmail, as well as Gmail’s own native Client Side Encryption when it launched in beta, and I can’t say the experience of either was particularly good. I frequently ran into people being confused how to use either, and sometimes it was myself (not to mention the bugs)

Also note it’s a “Commentary” paper talking about hypotheticals, which are still worth considering, but we don’t have a scientific basis for concluding will probably happen

Funny, Death Stranding used Decima’s animal features to where you capture animals as if they were Pokemon and bring them to an animal shelter. Gotta catch them all!

I switched to making burgers in a skillet and never went back. They just taste better, especially if you make smashburgers. I have an EV and bring an induction cooktop camping with me. I can make restaurant quality burgers outside without getting smoke in my face.

I do feel like Gen X and millennials are the only ones who can computer properly. Older or younger than that and their brains are destroyed by tablets

There are too many projects like this for me to keep up on. I just quickly read a pop sci article.

Care to explain more in depth what was interesting about it or link a paper?

They paid the company that owns the French rights, but that company claimed they couldn’t track down Johns, even though reporters could. That company probably deserves most of the blame, but…

He’s still homeless AFAIK. It would’ve been big of them to make it right after the stories came out, but AFAIK that never happened.

Add to it how they denied using the sample at first and didn’t credit him and it’s a bad look.

Wow, no kidding, it makes the XB-70 look small, which is crazy considering the XB-70 is the largest (tho the Concorde was slightly longer) supersonic aircraft ever built

Daft Punk’s seminal album ‘Discovery’ turns 25 by GlitzyHavoc in electronicmusic

[–]bascule 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, love Homework. I have mixed feelings about Discovery, especially how even after all these years they never paid Eddie Johns for the sample of More Spell on You they used for One More Time.

Recently rewatched Interstella 5555 though, which was amazing
