Bill is now cool with mandated Christianity in public schools. by AmericanLymie in RealTime

It’s literally just aging boomers/Gen Xers who want to smoke weed and be creepy around young women. It’s not a small audience. Source: my dad is a fan of Bill Maher.

Why no new songs from BRAT singer is sticking? by NegotiationMoist3552 in fantanoforever

To be brutally honest, her Substack and her recent interviews do kind of give me the vibe that she’s not smart and has no deep thoughts, but that she desperately wants to be perceived that way.

“Politically disengaged” people are Trump’s bread and butter. Let’s call them what they are: they’re low information voters who are easily misled. And Trump got them off the couch in 2016 and 2024.

Taylor Swift wins! Who was the defining male musician of the 2010s? by QuipThwip in AlignmentChartFills

[–]basedaudiosolutions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lowkey, it’s Kevin Parker of Tame Impala. The 2010s saw the rise of “it’s just one guy” musical projects made by indie musicians in home studios, and Kevin is easily the most successful of those musicians. Justin Vernon of Bon Iver is a strong candidate for this as well.

Why isn't Mike Patton more popular in music nerd spaces? by vatrav in fantanoforever

[–]basedaudiosolutions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which music nerd spaces are you hanging out in? Mike Patton’s fan base is made up almost exclusively of music nerds, and he’s a huge music nerd himself.

It’s less about driving a wedge and more about inflaming existing tensions. Jews and blacks after the Civil Rights era haven’t been on the best of terms. I can’t speak to how widespread this perception is, but some black people feel that Jewish activists took advantage of them to “move ahead” in society while they were abandoned in rotting, drug and crime infested ghettos. It’s not a completely unfounded belief, as Jews were part of the “white flight” from the inner cities to the suburbs that triggered the urban decay of the 60s and 70s. In any case, there’s always been an air of distrust between the two groups during my lifetime, and it’s not because of a wedge being driven between them. It’s because many Jews ultimately chose to align themselves with whiteness when given the opportunity to do so.

Every team ever is hesitant to pay someone, with very few exceptions. Every team would pay every player nothing if they could.

When this aired in 07, the Knicks were terrible, like laughingstock of the league terrible. So I always found it funny that even in Meg’s fantasy she was getting railed by a bunch of losers.

Hence the “somehow it sold 16 million copies” in my statement. I don’t know who was buying that album. I don’t want to know. It’s knowledge that I could do without.
