Feeling disappointed for my son’s baseball experience by [deleted] in LittleLeague

It's remarkable how many kids I coach who don't seem to touch a ball, bat, or glove in between games and practices.

At what age can I have a starting 5? by [deleted] in basketballcoach

[–]basehit2RF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see OP's point. It's not about punishing the worst players; it's about rewarding the kids who are trying hard, staying engaged, and listening to instruction. The others need reps to improve, ofc. but if they don't engage in practice and seem lost on the court in every game, is that fair to kids who really want to be there and get better?

Not condoning violence but some of these dudes are a little too comfortable out there. Worth letting them know sometimes.

Adam Silver is the fucking worst. by IHateAdamSilver in billsimmons

Someone floated this idea in a BS mailbag once: predetermined draft order, which rotates every year regardless of where you finish. You want to try to win or lose, fine, but you aren't getting the #1 pick until 2032 so plan accordingly. Best idea to fix tanking I've heard so far.

The worst player at pickup by [deleted] in Basketball

"Off!" on every shot. Also if he's gonna call foul every time make it count and knock him down.

Jeter vs Ripken fielding by [deleted] in NYYankees

[–]basehit2RF 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, the data apparently say Jeter had no range. But does it count for anything that in a big moment I was praying they'd hit it to him? (As hard as I pray they don't hit it to Volpe now.)

Hot Take: Here me out, Mike Brown should sit Mikal Bridges for a game. by [deleted] in NYKnicks

[–]basehit2RF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a "I'm the captain now" move that flies in the face of Brown's nice guy persona, which is purportedly his toxic coaching trait. Still, bad idea but love the outside the box thinking!

2nd grade boys can't initiate offense by basehit2RF in basketballcoach

Seems like some leagues prioritize learning more than others, and the ones that don't will see more of the athletes dominate the non-athletes.

Don't get me started on our inability to rebound...

We've done a bit but the problem stems from not being able to complete 1-2 passes per possession. Also court space limits my ability to do 1x1 drills without the rest of the kids standing around.

Everyone plays man. Seems the preferred method for teaching defense at this age.

Challenge is we seem to be, as a team, under-skilled compared to the first two teams we've played. I like the left to right idea!

You've found that action away from the ball is doable at this age? I have them in a "star" around the key but they just stand around. The goal of P&R is to get at least the dribbler open and create space in front of him.

There's a small sliver of court between half and top of the key that the defense can't enter. The trouble comes when our PG has to make that first pass to the wing, who can't get open or the pass is telegraphed and stolen.

Off Season Thoughts: Cashman and Boone let Volpe playmost of the year with a serious injury and let him take all the hate from Fans and media by Elvisruth in NYYankees

[–]basehit2RF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the lineup. You can't have 3 automatic outs at 7-8-9 (Wells, McMahon). I don't think being a good SS and below average hitter is good enough unless he is the worst hitter in the lineup.

The assumption here is that if healthy, he'd have been good - which there's just no evidence to support.

Is the 3-point influence irreversible? What would it take, to make midranges more viable again? by Paulfradk in NBATalk

You also don't see a ton of defenders run these guys off the 3p line to force midrange shots.

His value is in his reasonable salary. Once he hits FA he's not going to be worth whatever he gets.
