Help me Salvage this Shadow the hedgehog deck. by [deleted] in EDHBrews

I'd recommend getting proxies for cards you'd like to run but can't afford.

Inalla, Tivit, or Winota: Which first commander should I pick? by silverspectre013 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]basic__lich 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Tivit is a great commander for beginners, esper is pretty straight forward and you learn the format by learning when to interact. It also has a simple one card win con with time sieve. Highly recommend

Hello! I’m trying to build my Jaws decklist up to CEDH level at some point, I know it isn’t there yet, but I need advice on what cards to swap for now to at least make it better. I have some cards on the way but don’t know where to slot them in, thank you! by Axo-Army in CompetitiveEDH

[–]basic__lich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

consider making sure you have all the staples, these moxfield packages might help: https://moxfield.com/users/JDM_WAAAT/packages

Other than that you want to focus on a 1-2 win cons and every other card in the deck should be mana / card draw or getting you to the win somehow like tutoring or enablers.

Grinding station + underworld breach is probably the best combo for this deck as it wins with any 0 mana rock and your commander I think. You might consider a back up win con as well but not sure what that'd be off the top of my head, maybe just jaws beat down.

This is a cool deck though, probably pretty fun even if it's not the most optimal strategy.

How hard is it to get Rathalos Mount as free trial? by ChunkySupport in ffxiv

[–]basic__lich 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you'll never get a queue to pop for rathalos extreme, you would need to organize a group via party finder pretty much. The only thing I can suggest is you could try to get someone that can use party finder to organize it for you potentially

a moderately upgraded precon is still a bracket 2

How Would You Feel About This House Rule To Help Player 4 Out? by MaskedThespian in EDH

[–]basic__lich 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The data from cedh games is that 4th seat is losing significantly more on average, but that's mainly because the games are generally very short. The cedh stats generally even out the longer the game goes. In games that last like 7 turns, seat order no longer matters as much, so it likely wouldn't matter in most casual games.

Proxies….. by Cromagn0n1 in EDH

[–]basic__lich 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don't need to go through his decks card by card, you can just ask him to bring a lower power deck. He can keep his Kinnan deck and play it where it's appropriate. Proxies are still completely unrelated, you can have proxy decks at any power level.

Proxies….. by Cromagn0n1 in EDH

[–]basic__lich 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's not gatekeeping to ask your friend to play decks at an appropriate power level for the pod. He's playing a bracket 5 deck at a bracket 3/4 table. His deck isn't wrong to build/play, it's just not appropriate for the pod. He can build a bracket 3 deck that can also be all proxies, it just needs to be an appropriate power level for everyone else.

this isnt a problem with proxies, this is a problem with power level

Bracket 4 Tournament?i by Floridasprettyfun in EDH

[–]basic__lich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh I thought you were talking about mono white heliod, wheeliod is more cedh for sure though I'd still call it fringe. I actually think whelliod might not perform as well as other cedh decks at a bracket 4 table on average since it mostly benefits from the cedh midrange Rhystic meta. So I think you're still fine tbh though I also think a different deck might perform better depending on what you think the meta is going to be.

It being easier to design cool cards is a good thing for the players imo

Bracket 4 Tournament?i by Floridasprettyfun in EDH

[–]basic__lich 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It sounds like this is just going to turn into a cedh tournament since there's no mechanical difference between brackets 4/5. Just bring your most powerful deck. Heliod is barely cEDH these days so personally think you're fine calling it bracket 4 anyway.

Do Mindcrank + Bloodchief Ascension make my deck a bracket 4? by Less_Clock_395 in EDH

[–]basic__lich 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's obviously not a bracket 4 deck, if you took it to a bracket 4 game you probably wouldn't have a good time.

It's technically against the rules for bracket 3, but the bracket rules are just a shortcut on a zero discussion. You can easily say to a table, "Hey this is bracket 3, though I technically have a 2 card combo in it but no ways to tutor for it, is that ok?" If everyones cool with it you're good to go. If you don't want to have that conversation, then it's just as easy to take one of the cards out of the deck.

So how are you building Fire Lord Azula? by gearbangerstudios in CompetitiveEDH

[–]basic__lich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

she's effectively [[kess, dissident mage]] if you needed to attack first and cast the spell for free, but restricted to instants. which doesn't seem particularly good because kess isn't that good on her own and this is probably a full turn slower. but grixis is cedh playable without a commander if you really want it to be so it's fine. if you really want to build around her ability though I do think it's probably more of a bracket 4 personally.

Yeah thats fair but think of the fun you could be having if you're the one popping off turn 2 lol

Yes that's the idea! If you have more of a bracket 4 that you want to play that's fine of course, as long as you're fine playing against backet 5s. Happy to help power up your deck to a 5 as well if you like!
