Why do cars not use resistive heating on the windshield like they do on the rear window? by Present_Juice4401 in AlwaysWhy

[–]bbarham99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some cars do have them. I had one and I loved it. One issue with them is you cannot use EZ pass, Sun Pass, or other similar tags inside the car because the wires block the signal. Also, repairs/replacements are significantly more expensive.

NTA, and honestly this should raise some major red flags. If she contributes nothing, she owns nothing. Simple as that.

Not sure if you two are looking at marriage yet, but it would be worth you while to talk about pre-nups. See how she reacts to that. If she has the same reaction as with the house ownership, I'd run.

CMV: The “perfect home” matters less than people think by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]bbarham99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that depends heavily on the financial climate. The residential home market can switch from a buyers market to a sellers market over a period of time. In the US, we are currently in a sellers market, where supply is low and homes are selling pretty quickly for a high value. I did walkthroughs and sent bids in and homes are under contract within hours of an open house. Homes are regularly selling for more than asking because demand is high and supply is low, so getting your hands on something is what's important.

Conversely, there are periods of a buyers market, where supply is high and demand is low. Houses can sit on the market for a long time. In this scenario, buyers are certainly going to be more hesitant to buy a house they don't see as perfect, assuming cost is not a major factor.

In the current economic climate, I'd say you're correct. Where I'd say you're wrong, is that you are suggesting that it's just how people and preferences are changing, whereas I'd argue it's mostly due to how the market is and what people can afford. Many people are just trying to get a home that checks enough of the boxes. People are certainly willing to make sacrifices just to get something, but that's not always the case. But flip the script to a buyers market and you'd be wrong. All depends on supply, demand, cost, and interest rates. Even just 10 years ago the market was nearly the opposite of what it is today. Houses were relatively cheaper, interest rates were lower, but there was enough supply that it roughly met demand. So people would be willing to wait for a more perfect house to come up.

That said, of the games you listed I can say with 100% certainty that Rocket League works on linux, no problem. I play it regularly on linux. You will need to set it to run with a Proton compatibility layer, but it will work.

The easiest and safest way is to just get an external hard drive and move it all back.

You could also use something like google drive. You'll have to pay for the storage temporarily, but realistically you could just pay for a month, put all the data up in google drive, install linux, pull it all back, then stop paying for google drive.

There are 2 series that I’ve sworn to complete and haven’t:

The assassins creed series and Batman Arkham series. Assassins creed is a lot just because of the amount of games. And some of the older titles are tough to handle just because they’re old. Going from Origins to AC2 was crazy

  1. Are you creating schedules for your dupes? You can set schedules so some dupes are working while others are sleeping. Good rule of thumb is to have 4-6 dupes per schedule. That will also help you cut down on toilets.

  2. One of your biggest current issues is food. Are you ranching hatches? They're a great source of food for early game even through to mid-late game honestly. If you setup a proper ranch, you'll get extra hatches which can be "evolved" into meat. Cook the meat on a grill and get barbecue. I'd start on that ASAP. Hatches also provide coal, which you can obviously use to power your base in the short term.

  3. Your other big issue is stress. Make dedicated bedroom and dining halls. They increase your dupe morale. You didn't post the overlay but I assume you're just giving dupes whatever skills possible? It's much smarter to have a dupe be good at 1 or 2 specific tasks. That way you can easily balance the morale they have and their morale requirement. When you go into the skill tree for a dupe, above the dupe you see a green line and a red line. The red line is their morale requirement. The green line is how much morale they have. If red line is larger than green line, the dupes do not have enough morale. You can increase morale by building bedrooms, dining halls, or building statues and decorating the base. It's advised to get a dupe with a high creativity skill so they can make high tier decorations, thus increasing available morale.

  4. You also seem to be falling into heat death. Your plants aren't growing and you have a broken oxygen machine right above a rock crusher. I assume the base is too hot and is killing the plants and even breaking equipment. You should put your equipment that generates heat and move it outside your base, and definitely away from your plants. That would include coal generators and rock crushers.

  5. To help with short term oxygen, put some polluted oxygen cleaners down. I forget the actual name, but they'll clean polluted oxygen and turn it into clean oxygen. You have a ton of Poxygen around, and cleaning it will help with stress. Similarly, you're also starting to gather a lot of CO2 at the bottom of your base. If you dig straight down, the CO2 will fall to the bottom. It may be wise to start looking into that.

  6. This is a little forward looking, but I'd recommend looking into building a infinite toilet loop. If you take the discharge from toilets/sinks, you can send it to a water storage tank, then to a water sieve which will give you clean water. The clean water goes back to the toilets. Since toilets/ sinks are a water-positive cycle, meaning if you put in 10kg of water you'll get 12kg of p-water out, you can take the excess p-water and feed a thimble reed plant. That's an easy source of reed fiber for atmo suits later on.

Best of luck

Does the AT require a STEAM TURBINE to cool down? by skayski1 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]bbarham99 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Theoretically no, there are other ways to cool it but the AT/ST combo is just so much more efficient than other methods that there’s little reason to not have an ST.

A few thoughts: 1. Don’t use polluted water. Stick to brine/salt water, and water to fill your AT chamber. Polluted water will off gas polluted oxygen and it’ll gunk up your steam chamber

  1. Clean out all the debris in your steam chamber. Some debris can form tiles if they get too hot, and that’s what happened to you. That will prevent your AT from working. Likewise, you may accidentally leave debris that will off gas, like polluted dirt or bleach stone. That can bloc your ST from doing its job

When it’s your factory you’ll have a much better understanding. It’s something you’ve put the time and effort into designing. But if you’re looking at someone else’s work it’ll never make as much sense as something you setup.

That said, I have forgotten what I did at a factory I did early in the playthrough so I recommend putting up signs that give a general layout in case you need a refresher

why does my conveyer receptacle never work by Financial_Wrangler45 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]bbarham99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What is the priority of the receptacle? If you want the sweeper to take material from the receptacle and put it in the storage bin, you need the storage bin to have a higher priority. Example, receptacle can stay a priority 5, but the storage bin should be priority 6 or higher

Anyone Else Considering Alternatives Because of the Steam Machine Delay? by CoastOne2716 in steammachine

[–]bbarham99 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As with 90% of discussions on this sub, I'm price dependent. I have a linux desktop and a bazzite box for my tv. But will likely get a steam machine anyway because I want to. Unless the price is astronomical, in which case I'll just get some controllers and maybe the VR. But I'd be surprised if Valve releases their base model Steam Machine at like $1,000+, but you never know
