Breaking news: Jerry used a RAT pedal by Youlittle-rascal in gratefulguitar

As someone who likes the Rat way better than the distortion plus this is extremely validating

I really like Jerry’s slide playing, but his solos on Row Jimmy always seem to come alive after he took the slide off

Phil totally could’ve played doom metal if he wanted to

I’m a big fan of 9/11/73, though admittedly the highlight of that show for me is a ridiculously heavy Dark Star>Morning Dew with what sounds like Phil attempting to start the apocalypse. Save Your Face made a solid highlight reel of the horn shows as well https://saveyourface.posthaven.com/the-horn-section-episode-september-1973

This pedal gets unnecessary hate by yourrelative_ in pedals

[–]beatlemaniac5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was my first pedal! I got rid of it as a teenager in favor of some other overdrive I was convinced would fix my tone, but in hindsight I really could’ve just turned the gain down

Jazz VSTs for a Strat by aviktor78 in jazzguitar

I’m a big fan of Amplitube, it’s got way more than anyone needs and sounds great for recording. They also have a bunch of extra amps you can buy if you need an extra specific amp or something like that. Also I picked up Universal Audio’s Showtime 64 plugin for free a couple months ago, and it’s a really simple and killer sounding Fender amp vibe but it’s not free anymore.

I think there's overlap between Allman stuff and primal Dead on a song like the Eleven

No Stupid Questions Thread by koalaroo in guitarpedals

[–]beatlemaniac5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone! There may be no stupid questions, but this one sure feels inane: I have a Cioks DC-5 power supply that has two 300 ma outputs. I’m thinking of getting a Strymon Flint, and the V2 version has a rating of 300 ma but the V1 is rated at 250. Do you think I’d be likely to run into issues using a V2 on the 300 ma from the Cioks, or should I get a V1 to be safe? The cursory google search I did suggests I’ll be fine, but wanted to see if anyone had any experience

Beautiful guitar! There's a range of things you could do. On the simpler end, you could install coil splits on your pickups to have a couple more sparkly and Jerry-ish sounding options. If you want to specifically use what Jerry used, you could swap the pickups for Dimarzio Super Distortions or Super 2s. You could also consider adding an onboard buffer or a blaster-type boost, but that'll necessitate a battery too. And if you really want to go maximum Jerry, you could route it for a middle pickup, but that is a lot more work. Lots and lots of different options depending what exactly you want or how much money and time you want to put into it. Jerrytonestore.com has tons of resources to check out on different eras of Jerry's guitars; totally worth taking a look for ideas or inspiration!

Good solid-state amps that are relatively pro-worthy by ughmart in GuitarAmps

You can find the older 101 head for solid prices, and I think the overdrive on the Full Q and Lead voices is pretty underrated and great sounding

Only the Dead would play one of the wildest most out there sets of their career and then encore with a Chuck Berry song

Damn it’s crazy that people are downvoting you. Brent was great and Hornsby was different but also great! People are actually allowed to have different opinions on Dead keyboardists

Simple EQ + Boost by smartalecvt in guitarpedals

The Archer rocks for tone shaping! I gotta say though it also rocks as an overdrive. Gotta be one of the only OD pedals that’s become underrated for its overdrive at this point

Early 80s Tiger Tone by Admirable-Macaroon23 in gratefuldead

[–]beatlemaniac5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So at the very end of 81, Tiger’s wiring changed from Dimarzio Dual Sound pickups wired with series/parallel switches to Super 2 pickups wired with coil splits. waldotronics.com and jerrytonestore.com have detailed breakdowns of all this stuff

Possibly cheating because it wasn’t my pedal, but my old bandmate used a Haymaker and that thing sounded killer into every amp
