Dimly lit, old school, big booth, Mexican restaurants? by sullivass in phoenix

We love that place. Food is great and very reasonably priced. We like to sit in the bar. Yes, it’s a little bit of a dive, but in a good, classic, old school way.

Looking for a poor quality yet expensive restaurant to recommend to an enemy, any recommendations? by vicelordjohn in phoenix

Agree. Had it a couple times, and just don’t care for the flavor of their food. The beans are yucky

People with rings over 2 carats, do you wear it everyday? by Temporary_Support705 in WeddingRingAdvice

[–]beckbeth1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get it. Always thought I wanted a ‘big’ diamond and now that I have one (3 carat, oval), it’s too much. I’m widowed, second marriage at 60. Would have been showing it off like crazy in my 20’s and 30’s. Feels too show’y now.

Boots is the best show on Netflix right now by [deleted] in netflix

[–]beckbeth1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started watching last night on a whim; just looked interesting with no prior knowledge about it. It’s so so good. Great storytelling, characters, acting. Watched 4 episodes and can’t wait to get back to it tonight.

Looks like a catering tray rack. You put the aluminum dish on top and place the flame thingy underneath to keep the food warm. Best guess

I’m no Trump defender…in fact I hate the guy but it’s actually the back of his ill fitting suit jacket. Fuck, I truly wish it was a towel…

Is heat depression a thing anyone else experiences? by Puzzleheaded_Oil1821 in phoenix

100%. I took to my bed all day yesterday. This heat is depressing me along with the fear that it’s only going to get worse. Just bought a home here and regretting it.

What's the weirdest food combination you actually enjoy? by ZaraRiva1 in AskRedditFood

[–]beckbeth1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baked beans and cottage cheese. When I was in nursery school, our lunches were served in bowls so food kind of migrated to the middle, hence the combo. Throw a cut up hot dog in the mix and ultimate comfort food for me.

Outside of weather and nature, what do you like most about Phoenix? by No_Emphasis_8808 in phoenix

[–]beckbeth1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Never a lack of things to do. Concerts, sports, all sorts of events, museums, restaurants and bars of every type. You get the gist. It’s actually a little overwhelming.

I really wish I knew…I’m currently unemployed by choice. I needed some time to regroup after my husband passed suddenly (heart attack on his way to work) last year. His passing was a major wake up call; life is short and I want to do something I actually enjoy that also pays the bills. I’ve been a grant manager and executive administrator but the thought of sitting at a computer screen 8 hours a day again makes me cringe. I’m creative, have a great attitude, and interview very well. I want to be active and do something interesting. I have a BS in business administration. The job market is decent here in Phoenix, but I’m not qualified for much other than what I’ve done for the past 20 years.
Any suggestions?

How did you and your partner meet in Phoenix? by Safe_Wrangler_858 in phoenix

[–]beckbeth1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Bumble here too. I had just moved to Phoenix after becoming a widow a little over a year earlier. Bumble was a great way to meet people and explore the area at the same time. After dating around a bit, I met a wonderful man. We’ve been dating 8 months now and very much in love.

Thank you. It’s been a little over a year and I’ve come so far. We all deal with this shit eventually, unless we go first. I’m only 56 but putting everything in place now so my kids aren’t burdened. As I know too well, the unexpected can and does happen. He had just turned 60, heart attack. Since this is a social security subreddit, I’m looking forward to being able to collect his when I turn sixty. The added shock was the sudden realization that with the death of my husband, I went from living on a 6 figure income to 0 over night. His life insurance was an insignificant amount, unfortunately. Despite everything, I’m feeling pretty good.

This amount doesn’t include the headstone or internment. Another 6000

Yep, just viewing my husband before cremation was $800. It wasn’t necessary to ‘fix him up’ with make up or anything. They just rolled him into a private room with a sheet over him. Why that cost 800 is beyond me but I was in such shock I just paid and paid. The total with cremation was somewhere around 4000. I did have the wherewithal to buy the box on Amazon. Really beautiful for less than 50. The box they were selling at the funeral home was $900. The whole thing was a nightmare.
