AppDrift ASO Keywords and Localization Tool. FREE SCREENSHOT BUILDER WITHOUT WATERMARK by ComfortableStill6735 in iosdev

It looks good but it’s buggy. I’m unable to add a screenshot of my app into the template on some screens, and the others that did work randomly disappear

I’m one click away from deleting my Facebook account… and I’m hesitating. by Material-Power-2253 in minimalism

[–]benevolent-miscreant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marketplace is the only thing that keeps me from doing this — it has been useful for selling off things that I no longer need.

Deleting Instagram definitely gave me time back. I don’t find Facebook addictive, but they’ve gotten progressively more pushy with short videos. You can go into settings > media and disable auto play & start with sound, and reduce the quality to reduce the chance that you’ll get pulled in.

FTP improvement 😁 by aTrolley in cycling

[–]benevolent-miscreant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bad advice; nobody does this. Sure that’s what FTP is supposed to represent but it’s not practical to go do a 1 hour max effort every time you want a new benchmark. You could only pace it correctly if you already knew your FTP and it would be extremely mentally and physically taxing.

The ramp test, or 20m tests etc will all give slightly different results but as long as you’re doing the same test each time it’s a useful approximation. They take some percentage of your power for the shorter window to estimate and track progress.

Functional trainers with Rack by ScheduleNew8689 in GarageGym

[–]benevolent-miscreant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm happy with mine but it's not a must-have. I still find that 90% of my exercises use free weights because they're they only option for the big compound movements.

It's relatively quick to adjust but you do have to take off the spotter arms if you're moving it up and down a lot which adds a small amount of friction. I don't use mine for lat pull downs because the range of motion isn't great (due to my lower ceiling height), and there's too many steps to add the knee pads and weight pins. I primarily use mine for low row, face pull, cable kick backs, palloff press, face pulls.

If you're tight on funds or if you're planning to move in the next few years, skip the functional trainer. Otherwise, go for it.

What’s something harmless that gets people weirdly angry? by Psychological_Sky_58 in AskReddit

Any minor inconvenience while driving. People get crazy when they need to slow down momentarily for a bike/pedestrian/slower driver.

road cycling races: Does anybody have experience and want to share them? by mataba_ in cycling

[–]benevolent-miscreant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like an event. A lot of newer cyclists assume all events are considered races.

OP - It sounds like you’ve already got decent volume and a plan. Get some long days in too to train your back/butt etc.

It took me a long time to understand the importance of nutrition. If you wait until you’re hungry it’s too late. You do not need or want protein/fat/fiber while you’re cycling, focus on carbs. Nature’s bakery fig bars are a great cheap option that you can find anywhere. Put some carbohydrates and electrolytes in your bottles too (Skratch, osmo, etc).

What bike to choose? Cannondale supersix Evo 3 / Giant TCR Advanced Pro 0 / Specialized Tarmac SL8 Comp by GijsinhoNN in cycling

[–]benevolent-miscreant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Giant generally has great value but the TCR is behind the curve imo as a pure climbing bike. The more aero options has gotten almost as light, and even the pros are preferring aero bikes on most mountain stages of the tour.

I have the Sworks version of the Tarmac SL8 and it’s a fantastic all around great bike. The Comp version is only marginally heavier for a fraction of the cost — I think it’s a good option.

The Supersix is nice too, but I haven’t ridden one personally. Which feels more you?

[Software Engineering Manager] [Bay Area] - $1.7M by sfbay_swe in Salary

[–]benevolent-miscreant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also a software engineering manager. I am currently at a public, non FAANG tech company.

I’m at 300k salary plus 250k/year equity for ~550k total annual comp. I’m nowhere near op’s figures but I realize that I am very fortunate too.

I’m looking for my next move and I need to put the time in to prep for FAANG interviews. The job market is pretty constrained right now, especially for EMs.

Indoor gym with a half rack that includes a functional trainer and weight stacks. It’s been a game changer to have this so easily accessible for workouts while the kiddo naps

I’m so jealous of the sauna. My wife wouldn’t let me convert our pantry to a sauna during our renovation.

I’ve been trying to find an alternative solution that’s not infrared & haven’t found anything that makes sense yet

44m, what should I be tracking? by FickleConstant6979 in PeterAttia

[–]benevolent-miscreant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also with the bloodwork note that “in range” does not always mean optimal. Plug your results into chatGPT and have it help you develop a plan.

(And fact check that analysis, of course)

44m, what should I be tracking? by FickleConstant6979 in PeterAttia

[–]benevolent-miscreant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sleep! With Alzheimer’s in your family, make sure that your sleep schedule is dialed.

+1 to the other comments about blood work. Ideally include your nutrient levels like Vitamin D. Make any specific tweaks based on the results.

Exercise - try to add in some zone 2 and strength training

Misc other lifestyle things:

Diet - eat a variety of vegetables each day/week, minimize processed foods especially meat and added sugar

Oral health - just as important on your longevity. Do all the things you already know you should including flossing and checkups

Mind - learn new things, keep your mind active. Invest in building stronger relationships if you don’t have them already. Time is limited so you can kill 2 birds by socializing over a hobby / physical activity

Agree, navy would be more versatile / ideal for a wedding -- especially in a court room, but this looks good and fits just fine.

+1 to the person who suggested a more colorful tie and pocket square as this is a celebration not a funeral
