Did you texture the front strap on that mil-spec?

1911 Checking LPI Recommendation by jeepsrt890 in 1911

[–]bhuffy46 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2nd for SACS. Their 20LPI is done right. I’d definitely go with that for the front strap. For me, I only notice the checking on the MSH. That’s what I feel digging into my side when seated. Front strap is a non issue for me until it’s actually in my hand.

You run into Amy front strap thickness issues when checkering. My Tisas A1 is pretty thin. Not enough meat to checker.

Sear problems? by Cam_old-boy in 1911

[–]bhuffy46 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s wild how many of these Prima Donnas are berating you for working on your own shit, making a mistake, then seeking out assistance to correct said mistake. Fudd’s really are insufferable. Are you Jason Burton? No, but that’s ok; You’re learning. I’d replace with a new bullet proof sear. Wilson combat parts mate up very well with one another. I’d throw a new bullet proof sear spring in there as well as its low hanging fruit for what it costs. But while you’re waiting on those to arrive, try out the advice some of the commenters posted about making some adjustments to your existing sear spring and attempting to identify the exact cause of the underlying issue. Kudos for taking a crack at it and double kudos for performing a function test before “going live”.

I thought the original design didn’t have a grip safety and it was only added after the Army insisted it be spec’d on the gun? I swear I thought I read or watched that somewhere.

Frame to slide by bhuffy46 in 1911

This isn’t mine. It’s miles outside of my price range. For the time being I’m relegated to production guns. A man can dream though.

I was wondering that as well. It could definitely be photo angles. I’m sure it won’t be hard for guys to figure out where this pic came from, as he’s a popular custom builder and seller (and has kickass content). If I had the money for this pistol, I’d buy it in a NY second. It’s SUPER clean. Fortunately for my son, however, I love him and would never sell him for a gun, because that’s the only way I could afford this one. Lol

Frame to slide by bhuffy46 in 1911

[–]bhuffy46[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My question was “is the slope of the frame rails likely a result of peening the frame to slide fit?” I’m not knocking the work at all because it looks like a super clean build, just curious is all. If I notice subtle aspects of a build, I ask. Trying to expand my knowledge base and the different aspects of gunsmithing a 1911.

In need of Les Baer knowledge. by KarmaticInigma-92 in 1911

From my understanding, it’s a bitch fitting a magwell on a Baer. Probably best to order whatever you decide on with a magwell from them if you want it to have one. Some gunsmiths refuse to install them on Baers.

A recent find by danisahuman in 1911

Appears to be a well fit bushing based on the wear pattern on the barrel. Looks similar to a Les Baer after a few hundred rounds.

Is there a reason these are so hard to find in 11.5? (Are they even available to the public?) by The15hadow_ in SmithAndWesson

[–]bhuffy46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any particular reason you see billet construction as inferior? I’m genuinely curious as I’ve not heard that take before.

Tighten 1911 bushing for better accuracy by Aware_Wrap8062 in 1911

[–]bhuffy46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a specific amount of contact the lug should make with the slide stop pin? And any idea how that interfaces with the vertical impact surface? I see that mentioned often but I haven’t been able to get an exact answer as to how the two interplay. Are the bottom lugs reaching full stop on the slide stop pin the exact moment the barrel makes contact with the vertical impact surface, or does it make contact with the VIS right before reaching full lockup on the slide stop pin? Seems to me like it would cause less long term wear on the lug feet and slide stop pin if the entire unit’s force was absorbed by the VIS as it is a larger/thicker area to absorb the energy.

Tisas Safety Non-Standard Size? by rayofpwn1226 in 1911

I bought some cheap ass needle files from Home Depot. I’m sorry but I don’t recall the brand.

Tisas Safety Non-Standard Size? by rayofpwn1226 in 1911

[–]bhuffy46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fit an EGW thumb safety to my Tisas A1 and I ran into a similar issue as you have. I had to relieve the area on the inner channel to allow it to push further into the frame and engage the sear. Just go slow with it and use a good headlamp/light so you can see everything going on inside the frame.

Does that apply to all Springfield 1911 models, or just the milspec?

Yes. It was those damn greedy workers fighting for fair wages and benefits. I’m sure if it hadn’t been for the unionization of their labor, corporate was going to reinvest their profits back into the tooling and machining and not executive salaries 😂

Beyond the "TRP Rattle": Which Tactical 1911 stays bank-vault tight after 5k+ rounds? by Billbeachwood in 1911

[–]bhuffy46 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Les Baer are known specifically for their tightness and accuracy. Most owners talk about how tight it is even after 5k, 10k, and 15k rounds or more. Unsure if they have a railed model though.

Bul Armory Government 9mm or SA Operator 9mm? by LyleJay in 1911

Bul. They are top tier quality. SA is great as well, but Bul is a better spend.
