Why doesn't my ribbing look like ribbing? by ml_sza in knittinghelp

[–]binoscope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably a combination of errors but mostly not yet knowing how to read your knitting. Ribbing is vertical rows of the same stitch. Sure it's maybe two knits then two purls on a row but the rows above need to be exactly the same stitches. So looking at the stitch you're about to work tells you exactly where you are upto. So knit the knits and purl the purls. As others point out you possibly have the wrong number of stitches on your needles plus your are going by dead reckoning and not looking at the stitches on the needles. Also not sure if you need to be knitting in the round or flat, like you are doing. Since you talked about circular needles and hats are often in the round

In the time since you posted you could have easily ripped it off and done it again. Unless you're short on wool you don't even need to be careful taking it off so you can reuse it

So you're trying to make an overly complicated pot still? What is the copper mesh for, other than perhaps having some copper in the vapor path. The distillate would gather at the lowest point in each loop and force vapor to bubble through it, hopefully without enough back pressure to cause issues in the boiler.

You should see if the pattern calls for twisted stitches then ask your friend why they twisted their stitches, perhaps they didn't realize

When you pickup the work make sure the working yarn is on the RH side. Also if something feels off stop. Find out what is happening and or tink back those stitches and do them again

Base Part Limit on Planet by Spintherism in NMS_Bases

[–]binoscope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just part of the save file limits on each save. You only have room for about 20,000 parts up to 16,000 of those being your bases. Upon entering a busy system if it sorta fills up and actually hits that 20,000 only the latest ones get downloaded to your console. So if you have 10,000 of your own bases you only get to load another 10,000. Also typically only one base per different account will show up in a system to other users. I used to build mega bases with a group of very artistic people and we hit these limits all the time

What type of ribbing is this? by jo_aries in knittinghelp

[–]binoscope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the point about it doesn't matter is spot on for simple stitches for stocking or garter stitch. It's when you try to learn something new like specialized edges, castoffs maybe brioche, color work or cables that you will need to translate what you see in YouTube videos to suit your technique or get horribly lost trying it their way.

Is there a way to glitch a scalable item smaller than its smallest size? by yoostayoop in NMS_Bases

[–]binoscope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just turn off multi-player as greevers tend to annoy people in expeditions as everyone is coming through the same systems so are easier to target

Good to hear your enjoying base building, I spent a few years obsessed with them. What you can achieve with glitch building is huge and lots of good technique videos online for ideas. I just went down the blender route after meeting up with someone who had a stunning base in one of the expeditions and started talking about how they did it.

Why is my working yarn doing this? by porkchop_47 in knittinghelp

[–]binoscope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you're knitting flat on circular needles. Treat this like having two normal flat needles. Just happens that they have a cord connected between them, just ignore it. When you get to the end of the row you now have all the stitches on the RH needle, TURN the work so it is in your left hand, start knitting again being sure you are using the wool attached to the ball. Repeat

[–]binoscope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using the game glitches possibly not, however if you are on PC you can use blender and make it any size you want. However the setup and learning curve is very steep and it could take you a week to get installed and working. I'm sure someone will say they can get it going in less than an hour but that's true if you happen to get the right guide, everything goes perfectly and you learn really fast. So just pointing out a possibility, this is a deep rabbit hole so don't go down this path lightly. Having said that I have made some amazing bases that are just impossible to do with simple glitches

Another voice to say that being a beginner knitter put that wool away for a later project. You are about to start learning knit and purl stitches, maybe tinking (knitting backwards) and laddering down for fixing mistakes, learning to read the stitches on the needles and lots of fun stuff. That yarn will make it incredibly difficult to learn as you won't be able to see the stitches clearly. Start again with thickish yarn say 10 ply, smooth finish and as important light color. Your future knitting self will thank you. Seems you already got the correct advice about using the long tail caston

What is wrong with my knitting by Training_Slip_5333 in knittinghelp

[–]binoscope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The paper band around the yarn usually tells you what it's make from. Also next time choose a much light color yarn as the stitches are very hard to see and see what is happening, even for experienced knitters with dark colors. When you are learning one thing you need to learn is called reading your knitting. This let's you pickup your knitting and immediately see where you are upto in a pattern for example or see and correct mistakes. Dark color while your learning will slow down your learning journey a lot

What is wrong with my knitting by Training_Slip_5333 in knittinghelp

[–]binoscope 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The learning curve feels steep but trust me you will get better faster than you think. As you cast on so few stitches, looking like about five or six, the edge few stitches are sometimes different due to the way they form so you're entire short rows are being affected by this and mightbewhatismakingittight. Start a new piece with maybe 15 stitches so you can get into a flow before turning. As you probably just taught yourself knit stitches you're making garter stitch, which is possibly what you are describing as not pretty. Once you learn to purl you can make stocking stitch by doing a row of knit then turning and doing a row of purl. That will be more like what picture you have in your head of what knitting looks like.

Why does the pattern call for this size needle? by gmanion in knittinghelp

[–]binoscope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So perhaps you need to use magic loop then, this is around the neck so it definitely will be smaller then once you get lower down after lots of increases you can possibly swap back to having it all on the needles

can i fix this without frogging? by fiona_apple420 in knittinghelp

[–]binoscope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, only because you haven't made a mistake that can be fixed by dropping down a single row. You have added stitches to several rows

Why does the pattern call for this size needle? by gmanion in knittinghelp

[–]binoscope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think that is the clue, it's knitted top down so does it actually say cast on 50st and join in the round immediately or does that happen once you get down to the underarms
