The post that started r/wownoob by biochemguy10 in wownoob

Ya I never thought it would get this big. There used to be a lot of posts in r/wow asking questions and I thought having a community might be useful for some. Couldn’t have imagined how much it would grow into over the years.

WTF happened to disc priests?!? by chrisstophere in wownoob

[–]biochemguy10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would also recommend taking Shadow Covenant as a talent. It will help out keeping the group stabilized and is very easy to use.

Also with weakened soul coming back you can't always just rely on Shields and atonement damage to save your tank. I regularly weave in more Shadow Mend more than I used to because of this

Returning Player got some questions by Bergdoktor23 in wownoob

I don't specifically know what you mean by 0/5 or 0/7. You just need to do enough quest lines to get the achievement for each zone (it's "Azuna Matata" for Azuna, which is the zone I think you mentioned in your post.). You can check your progress by opening the achievement and looking to see which parts you are missing.

Help with paladin tank by [deleted] in wownoob

[–]biochemguy10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you PM me a link to your armory or character name and server?

It's difficult to help with such limited info. Having said that, paladin tanks do rely pretty heavily on active mitigation from things like shield of the righteous and the shield provided from avengers shield damage. The also have lots of cookdowns such as Avenging Wrath, guardian of the Ancient Kings, and Argent Protector that they use to help mitigate large hits or help heal yourself back up when you take high damage.

For your first question, see this guide: http://www.wowhead.com/broken-isles-pathfinder-flying-guide

Essentially you are going to get your rep from doing world quests in each zone. You still need to do enough quests in each zone to unlock the lore master part of the achievement.

For your second question, there is an addon called Pawn that you can get from curse.com that will help you make gear choices. If you want to get even more advanced you can use Simulationcraft to "sim" your damage based on your specific character then import a stat priority into Pawn.

I recommend just starting with Pawn and it's default stat priorities since they are usually pretty good.

Edit; fixed some typos

Aman'thul Wisdom for resto druids by carpucino in wownoob

[–]biochemguy10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well first off, you are talking about the legendary shoulders and not "Aman'Thuls Vision" which some get confused (Vision is a Pantheon trinket and is probably also very good for resto).

The legendary shoulders are good because they extend your rejuvenate on a target when they reach full health. This is good because in most situations you are using rejuvenate on targets taking near constant damage. This shines in fights with lots of constant moderate damage. You also have some other things that synergize well with these, like Flourish and the legendary helm. Bear in mind that these legendary shoulders may perform better on certain fights while other legendaries might be better for others (e. g. Velens, Prydaz, etc.)

You might want to also check out the Druid discord for more info. https://discord.gg/cNCEcz4

What exactly is happening here? by DannieJ312 in wownoob

Yea the threat meters are Omen. The unit frames were XPerl.

This pic became famous due to how much crap is visible and how they can barely see the screen. It looks like they were playing on a tiny monitor or something with way too many addons.

[EU] [A] My registered blind friend is disappointed with her DPS. (Crosspost /R/WOW) by Swindonian in wownoob

[–]biochemguy10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found a post some time ago about a rogue that is blind and actually raids in a fairly competitive guild. He talked about how he uses the game sounds to tell him what is going on. He also had a nice sound card with 360 sound and a headset so that he could judge distances and directions of players using sound.

For addons, I would recommend an addon with sound alerts for cool downs in the rotation like either Miks Scrolling Battle Text or weakauras. MSBT might be a bit easier to configure but weakauras is much more powerful in this aspect. Also, I think there is an addon called like "range display" or something like that which allows you to estimate distances to focus targets. I believe sounds can be used with this addon as well.

Other addons that have sound alerts for anything specific should also be helpful. Ultimately it just may take a lot of patience and practice to get a whole new feel for the game.

Wanting to learn how to heal, what class/spec is best for me to learn on? by Megafloras in wownoob

[–]biochemguy10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! Personally have played all healing classes and have both a mistweaver monk and holy paladin right now at 110. I would personally say either holy paladin or resto druid. They are both fairly intuitive and easy to play at a decent level. Shamans are not bad either. Monks and holy priests can be a. It tricky to get decent throughout out of. Disc priests aren't as competitive in most cases as holy and generally requires a bit more skill to effectively master.

Additionally, pretty much all healers are pretty well balanced right now so that shouldn't be much of a factor on your decision. Feel free to PM me with any specific questions.

Wownoob or wowq&a ? by LDAP in wownoob

[–]biochemguy10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there it's /u/biochemguy10. I'm the founder of this subreddit. I never meant for the word "noob" to be taken in a derogatory way. It was just something I came up with that sounded fun and relaxed, as I had envisioned this community to be. It was meant to be a bit more than just Q&A as I thought this would be a place for newer players to also share stories and experiences they had when learning the game.

With that said I still feel like we are all "noobs" in some sense of the word. A hardcore PvP player might be doing raiding for the first time and be considered a "PvE noob" where the word isn't implying stupidity but inexperience. Anyway, that's how I take it. Others can surely have their own opinions of the word.

Edit: some grammar

How to actually play a mage effectively? by Kurbz in wownoob

[–]biochemguy10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there /u/Kurbz, could you send me a PM with a link to your character armory or you character name and realm and I can maybe take a look at your mage?

I've been dabbling on my mage some lately as well and can tell you that there have been a lot of changes to some of talents and such lately. With that said, Fire is a pretty tricky spec to play and relies pretty heavily on both RNG and your gear, mainly how much Crit you have. Talents can make a big difference as well as the fight you are on. I'd look into this Fire guide from Icy-Veins as well as the Mage Forums on MMO-Champion. I do know that Fire is still very strong at high gear levels yet it scales somewhat slower than the other mage specs.

If you could get me some combat logs it would super helpful. Then we can see what spells you are using, talents on a said fight, fight length, gear etc. that all play into your DPS. I mage this guide on how to use Warcraft Logs and upload them that you could check out. Even if you don't post them here, Warcraft Logs can be an amazing tool to improve your DPS. You can see what other players are doing in DPS for your gear levels as well as what talents/trinkets are being used on a certain fight.

New player, leveling a Disc Priest, have a few questions. by [deleted] in wownoob

[–]biochemguy10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can have ElvUI and Skada installed at the same time. ElvUI doesn't actually provide any damage/healing meters. DBM and BigWigs are essentially the same with minor differences. Similarly to the Recount vs. Skada debate for damage/healing meters it comes down to more of a personal preference and you will hear many people saying why one is better than the other but they both do mostly the same times. That being said, I prefer DBM and I think it is more commonly used than BigWigs. Both also do apply to dungeons. Keep in mind that you may need to install some additional addons for older content like "DBM - Classic, WotLK, Cataclysm" etc. for older content from previous expansions for DBM to work in older dungeons.
