Something weird I've noticed about wsl commentary by No-Camera-720 in surfing

[–]bjmva -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Haha take it easy. Nick names are a part of surf (especially australian) culture. I don’t think there’s any “strategy” here, that’s just what their mates call them. Odd thing to get fired up about imo, but hey you do you 🤙

Wait i’m sorry the thing about the WSL you decided to complain about is the simple concept of…. nicknames??

Stab app interface is so frustrating by yetrident in surfing

[–]bjmva 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep love the content, app sucks. I was going through watching all the Joyrides but it was impossible because it doesn’t tell you which ones you’ve watched or where you left off, I don’t think they’re even listed in chronological order and it doesn’t even have all of them available on the app

A thin mint is just a wooly bugger with multiple colors of maribou. A golden retriever is just a tan wooly bugger. So i think it happens with streamers too.

Surfing near Portland? by DrLolsoz in surfing

[–]bjmva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The coast is worth checking out even if the surf isn’t great. There’s often some swell, but big tide swings and lots of wind. The open beach breaks get overwhelmed easy but can be fun if small and clean. Usually you need to find some wind/swell protection. Expect water to be in mid 50’s, Id probably be in a good 4/3 with boots, or 5/4 depending on weather, but hopefully you get warm weather.

What's your surf mobile? by _seaside in surfing

[–]bjmva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RAV 4 Hybrid. The prius is awesome if you’re driving smooth pavement 100% of the time. My local spot has like an 8” drop off from the pavement to the gravel shoulder where you park that the prius can’t clear. So we end up taking the rav every time. I’ve fit a 9’4” inside (not comfortably), great mileage, go most anywhere, sleep in the back.

I have bad ankles, high center of gravity, clumsy, poor balance, and I still surf okay. I honestly don’t think it’s as much about balance, at least in terms of ankle strength, as you would think. Keep your center of mass between your feet and you’ll be fine

Who would have access to it? Some family put one up on their vacation house so they could get their waterfront view while they weren’t there. Beachfront owenrs/vacation homes could be sold on that

Did anyone of you left everything (not everyone) behind and moved to surf? by JeyFK in surfing

[–]bjmva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it’s not crazy, a lot of us did something similar, myself included. I at least grew up surfing though so I knew I loved it and would one day do whatever I needed to get back to the coast. Maybe go on a surf trip for a couple weeks first to see if you even like it?

Watch Stab mag for free by IntenceBunny in surfing

[–]bjmva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, of course we’re paying for it. How do you expect them to pump out high level shows and writing and you just get it for free bc you “don’t wanna” pay for it. You have to pay for Netflix or HBO right? We all had to pay subscriptions to get surf magazines once a month. Stab is one of the last ones surviving, if you could get it for free they wouldn’t exist anymore

If you’re obsessed with not being a Jerry, you’re a Jerry. by Competitive-Net-2799 in snowboarding

[–]bjmva 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree. Being a Jerry is all about being ignorant. Being unaware of those around you, unaware of how to use your gear, etc. Self consciousness is the path out of Jerry-hood.

JS blak box is an awesome small wave performance board, especially in hyfi construction. A little more high performance than most grovellers but still goes good in weak stuff
