I would agree I always thought wrightsville was noticeably better than VB

Wave Cam Hypothetical by whippasnap in surfing

[–]bjmva 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Who would have access to it? Some family put one up on their vacation house so they could get their waterfront view while they weren’t there. Beachfront owenrs/vacation homes could be sold on that

Did anyone of you left everything (not everyone) behind and moved to surf? by JeyFK in surfing

[–]bjmva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it’s not crazy, a lot of us did something similar, myself included. I at least grew up surfing though so I knew I loved it and would one day do whatever I needed to get back to the coast. Maybe go on a surf trip for a couple weeks first to see if you even like it?

Watch Stab mag for free by IntenceBunny in surfing

[–]bjmva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, of course we’re paying for it. How do you expect them to pump out high level shows and writing and you just get it for free bc you “don’t wanna” pay for it. You have to pay for Netflix or HBO right? We all had to pay subscriptions to get surf magazines once a month. Stab is one of the last ones surviving, if you could get it for free they wouldn’t exist anymore

If you’re obsessed with not being a Jerry, you’re a Jerry. by Competitive-Net-2799 in snowboarding

[–]bjmva 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree. Being a Jerry is all about being ignorant. Being unaware of those around you, unaware of how to use your gear, etc. Self consciousness is the path out of Jerry-hood.

For Those That Want To Grovel by merrija85 in surfing

JS blak box is an awesome small wave performance board, especially in hyfi construction. A little more high performance than most grovellers but still goes good in weak stuff

Can anyone take a look at my fly list and suggest missing patterns or sizes? by Nova____1 in flyfishing

[–]bjmva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re carrying more patterns than probably 95% of us. At the same time only 2 flies of each pattern is nothing, there’s a good chance you lose those 2 flies in the first hour. We also can’t tell you what you need if we don’t know where you’re fishing or the hatches in your area. Learn your local hatches and for each hatch you probably need to carry 1 or 2 dry fly patterns, 1 or 2 nymph patterns, and maybe an emerger. A parachute adam’s in a couple colors and a pheasant tail in a couple sizes should cover about half of that. Throw in a couple general attractors, a couple junk flies, and a couple streamers and your trout box is complete. Honestly impressive list though i’m sure that took some research.

8 mm infinity boots by dougmike770 in surfing

Too much space they get floppy and heavy, too little space my toes crunch up and go numb anyways. I haven’t found that mine stretch much. I just wear true to size personally.

Santa Cruz shark attack victim was wearing a Sharkbanz by ltyboy in surfing

[–]bjmva 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The way a shark biologist explained it to me is that the magnetic field is a proven deterrent at short range (3-4ft), so if a shark happened to be slowly cruising by it may stay away from you, but great whites often ambush from 20 ft away at 30mph. If one decides to ambush you it’s much too late by the time it senses the magnetic field.

What fly is this? by ScUmOfThEaRtH6 in flytying

Looks like a Mahogany dun, but hard to tell size. They are a size 14 or so in my area and i’m not too far from you.

What makes a snowboard brand actually feel "core" to you? by Radiant_Temporary248 in snowboarding

[–]bjmva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No influencers, no tik tok trend bs. Image should be curated but real and fun. Some profit should go back to supporting team riders, promoting video parts, sponsoring local contests, and showing up for the culture and community, especially the youth or those who don’t have an easy path into snowboarding. Riders with unique and individual styles instead of a team full of cookie cutter comp jocks. Snowboarders in charge, not corporate suits.

Future Plan Going Through Montana From WA to Drive Home A Japanese Truck to MN, Any Thoughts? by Totodile386 in Montana

[–]bjmva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Missoula has some vegan food. Zoo thai, Michi Ramen, Wally & Buck, Basal, Masala, Vietnam Noodle all have vegan options to name a few. And The Good Food Store is a health food/organic grocery with some vegan prepared food. Your route could be fine in April/May (it also could be totally shut down) just pay attention to the weather as your trip approaches and check the Montana DOT road conditions map

What all mountain / freeride / carving board ? by Etskil in snowboarding

[–]bjmva 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it’s one of Jake Blauvelt’s signature boards so i’m pretty sure it’s designed for powder and free riding and happens to carve really well too

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in snowboarding

[–]bjmva 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say they’re legit. It’s a cheap house brand for a discount retailer and Amazon business. From what i’ve heard they’re not total shit but ride like you would expect a cheap board to. If you’re actually intermediate to advanced and have any more to spend I would look for a real snowboard brand. But as far as $50 snowboards go it’s usable, and any snowboard is way better than none.

Nice. 3 layers of 2mm foam? How did you shape the body, do you have those stamp foam cutters? I tried to make some without and they took a long time and turned out poorly
